Is there anything you really wish you could like more than you do?

Mine's gardening. I have friends who swear by how therapeutic it is, and I really do like having a garden, but I mostly find doing it an exhausting, frustrating chore. I feel like apologising in advance to any plant I bring back from yet another trip to the garden centre, its chances of survival are so slim.
And as for grow your own - I've successfully brought up three kids but it seems I don't have what it takes to nurture a single tomato to fruition. Sigh...

Exercise. I don’t get a buzz. I just end up grumpy.

I've discovered swimming to be the only exercise I enjoy. I love walking too but it's not that strenuous. I don't get all the group exercise/running club/team sport thing at all!

@Catsmere That's so nice to read about your classes! Glad you're enjoying them.

I had really patient, fun-loving PE teachers (and also private sports classes) as a child, and most adult sports/dance/etc social activities here are laidback, but I genuinely suspect I'm dyspraxic.

However with Youtube now you can practise and learn anything to death in private and sloooow motion, so maybe I'll privately try to learn a really repetitive sport that doesn't require much coordination (if that even exists?! am I just thinking of factory work or something haha)

Edited

That's one reason I went to this rehabilitation centre to do classes - not that I'm dyspraxic, but because they do an assessment first (questions plus a short session of weights/treadmill/standing pushups/balance) so they can write up a program that suits your needs and abilities. And they're not pushy, they're encouraging. I know if I didn't have scheduled sessions I wouldn't do anything; my motivation is nonexistent.

Cooking. I have a very busy lifestyle and by the time I get into the kitchen I’m that exhausted that I just want something quick and easy.
Id love to have a bit more time to enjoy cooking and try out new things.

Toomanysquishmallows · 10/10/2023 07:29

With me it’s being bothered about interior design and exercise.

Bananas, and anything banana-flavoured. Such a convenient fruit and it comes in its own wrapper. Good energy, healthy etc. I find them beyond vile though! Slimy and a horrible flavour.

Swimming. Way too much faff.

I learnt to swim as an adult, so for me the pleasure of finally being able to do it and enjoy it outweighs the faff factor (though it does rear it's head some days!).

Gardening. Running. Baking.

I like the look of them all but do not enjoy them in practice.

Bearcub101 · 10/10/2023 07:53

Cleaning. I love a tidy house. But I sit there looking at the mess and have no idea where to start. 4 hours later I’m still staring at the mess🤦‍♀️. Really wish my mind wouldn’t flick from one activity to another, I can’t concentrate on one thing for very long. Think I’m broken 🤣

Eating healthily

NoIcePlease · 10/10/2023 07:56

Wine.

Dh isn't a particularly big drinker but he does enjoy a nice glass...or bottle if the occasion warrants it...of wine.

I wish that I liked it. I'd love to be able to order a bottle to share in a restaurant or crack a bottle open together on a Saturday night as a treat. But I just don't like any, it makes me screw my face up like a 5 year old eating a lemon 😂

Socialising

ThisAintNoPartyThisAintNoDisco · 10/10/2023 08:11

I’m agreeing with loads of these 😁

But tea is the main one. And coffee. All that social bonding over ‘cuppas’ and the cosy ritual of it all. It’s not a club I can ever join.

’Tea..?’ Sorry no I don’t.. ‘Oh coffee then..’ (Kettle is already on by this point) No, nothing for me thanks. Well, maybe water ? Or squash (makes you sound aged 5)
Crestfallen host…Tumbleweed

And working in an office if you don’t drink hot drinks is not part of the job description

Buildingthefuture · 10/10/2023 08:18

Tuna
I also hated going to the gym (too peoply 🤣🤣) so I bought some weights from the middle aisle in Aldi and got some DVDs to do at home. I’ve since started using free YouTube videos too and I love it now!

Catsmere · 10/10/2023 08:29

@Buildingthefuture well done!

BabyofMine · 10/10/2023 08:36

Alcohol! For much the same reason ThisAintNoParty wishes they liked tea or coffee. I just feel so antisocial at parties and events but I really don’t like the taste of most alcohol, bar a few fruity/sweet cocktails others probably find sickly, but even then I absolutely despise the feeling of being even slightly intoxicated, I just can’t imagine why anybody likes that flushed out of control feeling 😳

Underneaththestars · 10/10/2023 08:41

Exercise. Just don't ever get that endorphin rush everyone else seems to get.

VeronicaBeccabunga · 10/10/2023 08:49

Countryside and 'going for walks' both utterly dull and tedious.
I love a nice clean air-conditioned gym for a bout of exercise and a city break or a day in London is a joy.

Don't make me look at the muddy smelly bits between proper places. Or walk around in them getting cold and wet and bored to bits.

wildwestpioneer · 10/10/2023 08:53

Salmon, well seafood in general. I'll eat it, but I generally think it's just bleeghhh - looks great but don't get the hype

The same it walking/hiking, I wish I enjoyed it, would love to see places and go hiking in the mountains, but after about half an hour of walking I'm beyond bored

Water parks. I'm too scared to go on the slides, which feels really pathetic. I'm a good swimmer, I don't mind speed. I took my DS to one this summer, felt really bad that I couldn't go on the slides with him!

rookiemere · 10/10/2023 08:57

Oh yes and more:
Interior decor
Paraphernalia or desire to surprise acquaintances on their birthdays

jessnoah · 10/10/2023 08:59

Religion so I can believe in an afterlife!

hotcandle · 10/10/2023 08:59

Cheese! I always see people enjoying a cheese board and crackers and I would love to be able to enjoy non melted cheese but I can't get into the taste.

Ha ha, my waistline would love it if I could stop enjoying cheese so much! Count yourself lucky!

DilemmaDelilah · 10/10/2023 09:05

Eggs. I like the idea of them and I can understand how nice it could be to dip a toasty soldier into a beautifully cooked boiled egg with a runny yolk, but actually I really don't like them. I can cope with an omelette, scrambled egg, fried egg (just) or quiche etc as long as they have something tasty with them, but boiled or poached eggs are a definite no.

I would love to like exercise, but I don't which is why I am a huge fat lump.
Also socialising. I hate it, probably because I am so bad at it. I now understand that it could be related to my autism, but for nearly 60 years I felt like a friendless failure.

But mainly eggs!
