To ask where the hell the Israel/Palestine thread went?

Just that really. Is it shut down or did it get moved somewhere? And why am I having to post here to find out such basic information? Why doesn't Mumsnet leave some kind of announcement where a thread used to be explaining why it's been disappeared?

Were you posting on the thread? If so you can click on "threads I'm on" which will help you locate it or show the deletion message.

Maireas · 09/10/2023 09:20

Go on site stuff or contact MNHQ.
There's little point in starting a thread to get those questions answered.

W0tnow · 09/10/2023 09:21

I was reading it, too 🤷‍♀️

Frustrating.

Thank you. Did not know that. I still have no idea why I should have to go to that kind of trouble when MN could easily leave up a note on moved/deleted threads. It's almost as if they're trying to do these things quietly so that only those on the thread will notice what's happened.

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 09/10/2023 09:23

They are deleting them

It’s frustrating as it’s a big news item

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/10/2023 09:24

Too controversial/political? (not my opinion, I found them informative )

I’ve read the threads. Can’t contribute in any meaningful way as I’m completely ignorant of the politics, though know of a very little of the history.

I can see both sides, not sure where that leaves me except desperately sad and a bit hopeless for their futures (a little worried too for everyone else’s as it seems the potential for escalation is real).

I don’t believe in God, imo that concept is behind far too many of such conflicts, but I hope that all of the dead all rest in peace. Their poor families.

Pollyputhekettleon · 09/10/2023 09:25

They've hidden it, for anyone else who's wondering. They're having a look at it. Maybe they need to make sure no one's getting upset by a thread about a war. We couldn't have that, mums aren't able for such things.

Don't Mention The War!! Seriously don't get this thread deleted too please.

Very frustrating as it was a good thread.

Differences of opinion sure, but nothing remotely offensive.

There was a point, because I actually didn't know you can find threads you've posted on until someone just told me. And of course there were lots of silent readers on that thread who couldn't find it that way but were interested. Now they know what happened too.

OP posts:
BBno4 · 09/10/2023 09:27

There's 3 threads they are 'having a look at', but none have been reinstated.

FOJN · 09/10/2023 09:28

It's a shame that people who find it upsetting don't just chose to hide the thread rather than deprive everyone else of the opportunity to read the discussion. We have talk guidelines to stop things getting out of hand. I didn't post on the thread but I was reading it and found it quite informative.

EasternStandard · 09/10/2023 09:28

There are some difficult posts but some posters with lots of insight

Annoying as I want to read on it

Flickersy · 09/10/2023 09:28

I've read a few of those threads and they often turned into personal attack after personal attack, full of ad hominems and bad faith posting. Plus a bit of troll hunting for good measure.

I'm not surprised they've been removed to be honest.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/10/2023 09:29

🥴

AhNowTed · 09/10/2023 09:30

@Flickersy

That wasn't the case though.

The previous certainly but not that one.

Interesting. Maybe what we need is some kind of virtual smelling salts distribution to allow us delicate ladies of Mumsnet to cope with upsetting things. But we must give thanks to our glorious protectors in the meantime for their zealotry in defence of our mental health.

I've always wondered when MN say they are taking a thread down to 'have a look' if they ever do 'have a look' and reinstate the thread. Or if when it's down that's it down for good.

Its a current and widely reported news item and many people have friends relatives in the area, with 100s kidnapped.

Its right its been removed.

Hoorahfordogs · 09/10/2023 09:35

I haven’t seen any threads yet - this is the first one I have seen - I’m not on mumsnet constantly though

One big thing I will comment on though is how when war broke out in the Ukraine, there was a very sudden onslaught of aid. With Israel, not one mention of it. Just saying…..

See this is the kind of sarcasm and bad faith posting that got the threads taken down in the first place.

I'm sure they publish statistics on that regularly in the interests of transparency. It would be very easy. Of course if they left a note of the thread up on the board saying a thread had been hidden for them to 'take a closer look' people would be able to observe for themselves how many such threads are hidden and how long they stay hidden for. Including people who weren't on a particular thread. As they're no doubt very proud of their efforts to protect users, I'm sure they'll implement that very soon.

Desecratedcoconut · 09/10/2023 09:35

In the history in MN, has any thread being 'looked at' ever come back?

SkinnyMalinkyLankyLegs · 09/10/2023 09:35

It's a shame, i was following that thread. There were a couple of really informative posters who were giving a lot of background info on the conflict. There were a few disgusting comments which seemed to.be along the lines of "well Israel has done worse" kind of thing but why censor speech? We're adults, we can choose to ignore certain things.
