To ask where the hell the Israel/Palestine thread went?

Just that really. Is it shut down or did it get moved somewhere? And why am I having to post here to find out such basic information? Why doesn't Mumsnet leave some kind of announcement where a thread used to be explaining why it's been disappeared?

OP posts:

People saying that the OP should go elsewhere to discuss this are spectacularly missing the point.

MN apparently prides itself on being a site of inteligent discussion. But when you see entire threads get pulled in case they get out of hand, even if they haven’t done yet, then that sends a clear message that that discussion is limited to the topics which mn see fit.

How awful the stepkids are, how much people detest Holly Willowby, what awful dating experiences they’ve had.

This is a genuine world event, if MN wants to be seen as a purely lighthearted site then they need to state that serious discussion is not encouraged, because that’s what they’re doing by removing the threads.

If people don’t like reading about the conflict then they don’t have to. I haven’t read one of the Ukraine threads because frankly I have conflicting views on the whole issue which it’s apparently not PC to discuss. But if people want to discuss things in their own right then they should be permitted to do so.

We have threads and threads and threads full of spammers overnight which nothing is done about.

At night the trolls are rampant which nothing is done about.

MN has sold out to the Daily Mail and GB news (based on the amount of threads that appear in the DM and the recent media request to talk to GB news.)

It’s high time we stopped seeing it as a serious platform for genuine discussion.

I’m absolutely not arguing but so is the Ukraine. What about the evacuation of civilians as was done in the Ukraine immediately - there has been no mention of anything like this for Israel - and especially where there have been so many women/children/families in general being kidnapped to use as a human shield. I literally cannot think of anything more sickening

Being serious- is anyone wanting to be evacuated? Is their home and it’s not a full scale invasion/ war- as awful as it is. Plus, unlike the Ukraine war I’m not sure which side we’d be evacuating? Both sides have civilian at risk, not one.

How, though? The obvious route has closed its borders. Can’t see Lebanon or Iran rushing to help. US can’t risk getting involved with an offer of airlifts. Not sure that people would be as willing to leave Israel as Ukrainians were for all sorts of reasons, either.

This is a very different situation to Ukraine. A unit of terririst launching an attack is very different from a state invading another state. Any other nation getting involved could be seen as an act of war against Palestine.

I agree. The kidnappings and deaths of innocents on both sides is horrendous.

Israel already gets all the military aid it needs from the US. They haven’t as far as I am aware requested evacuation or humanitarian aid. Iran provides military aid to Hamas and there are a lot of agencies (both Western and local) already providing aid in Gaza.

Well, Zelenskyy seems to disagree with you.

I think I'll trust his judgement on this.

Pollyputhekettleon · 09/10/2023 09:47

I have a great solution to that which I've set out twice already. It would be incredibly easy to implement. There are probably even more possible solutions too.

This happens literally every single day of the year on mumsnet.

The solution currently is that a message is posted on the thread then it disappears.

This happens every single day

I guess it's nice that you've finally noticed. Pop your solution/s across to mn.

The current solution works well enough for me. I click threads I'm on or threads I'm watching or bookmarked and can see what's happening.

Anything interesting, like Israel conflict, is going to end up being reposted deleted reposted endlessly. That's just the way the site works. I can see this must be the first time you have interacted with the board on anything news related.

Eh?

Edinburgal · 09/10/2023 10:05

Its a shame. I was reading the one from last night. Supporters of both sides but nothing offensive. I was finding it interesting.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/10/2023 10:11

What Edinburgal said.

Givemepeas · 09/10/2023 10:14

It’s absolutely ridiculous that we can discuss such a massive news story.

Givemepeas · 09/10/2023 10:14

Can’t.

ChesapeakeBay · 09/10/2023 10:15

Probably because Israel is more akin to Russia, than Ukraine?

Valerianandfoxglovesoup · 09/10/2023 10:19

Maybe because some of us are tired of this aggressive, angry tirading. Why would you spend your entire morning moaning that a parenting website isn't informing you about a thread populated by people you don't know on the Internet? I can't imagine being so embroiled in a virtual life that I would get so het up about a parenting website. 😀

Hoorahfordogs · 09/10/2023 09:35

I haven’t seen any threads yet - this is the first one I have seen - I’m not on mumsnet constantly though

One big thing I will comment on though is how when war broke out in the Ukraine, there was a very sudden onslaught of aid. With Israel, not one mention of it. Just saying…..

Edited

Since WW2 Israel has been the largest overall recipient of US foreign aid.
After the horrific attack by Hamas the US has said it will send military ships and aircraft and increase military aid to Israel.

You realise you have no authority here?! It's not actually up to you.

Hersecretserviceyourmaj · 09/10/2023 10:27

Anybody, who is posting anything positive about the attack is an absolute disgrace. Just read about a left wing journalist, who is one of them.

Oh, the irony...

User174085934 · 09/10/2023 10:28

I would probably just pop over to another forum and find a discussion on it, MN isn't the only one

ilovesooty · 09/10/2023 10:32

Pollyputhekettleon · 09/10/2023 09:42

Indeed. Isn't that very convenient. That's fine, enough people have read it.

It's not "convenient". It's well known that TAAT are routinely removed.

Haffiana · 09/10/2023 10:27

I was thinking exactly the same.

tttigress · 09/10/2023 10:36

The problem is these threads quickly descend into hatred.

Givemepeas · 09/10/2023 10:41

‘Quickly descend into hatted’

Do they? It’s annoying that any criticism of the Israeli state and their treatment of Palestinians is quickly labelled ‘anti-Semitic’.

It is possible to both abhor Hamas’ attack and understand the reasons behind it. Just as it is to feel for the Palestinian people, who are undoubtedly going to really suffer the aftermath of this attack and to feel for the Israeli families who are wondering if they’re loved ones are dead or kidnapped.
