To ask where the hell the Israel/Palestine thread went?

Pollyputhekettleon · 09/10/2023 09:16

Just that really. Is it shut down or did it get moved somewhere? And why am I having to post here to find out such basic information? Why doesn't Mumsnet leave some kind of announcement where a thread used to be explaining why it's been disappeared?

@Flickersy

That wasn't the case though.

The previous certainly but not that one.

I suspect MNHQ were wary of it going the same way and descending into a bunfight.

One big thing I will comment on though is how when war broke out in the Ukraine, there was a very sudden onslaught of aid. With Israel, not one mention of it. Just saying”

Does Israel need aid? My understanding is that it’s a very wealthy nation.

EasternStandard · 09/10/2023 09:37

There’s a fascinating discussion on R4 detailing the issues facing the region atm

We might not always reach those levels of debate but essentially the conversation is necessary if difficult

And those with family there may well want to post as it’s an extremely tough time

Pollyputhekettleon · 09/10/2023 09:38

Howpo · 09/10/2023 09:33

Its a current and widely reported news item and many people have friends relatives in the area, with 100s kidnapped.

Its right its been removed.

Oh I didn't realize MN bans comments on things that are widely reported in the news! Thanks for letting me know. Just how widely reported does it need to be? If it gets a mention on the BBC world website is that enough? What if it's only reported in China, though? I mean China's a big country, but most of us don't read Chinese. You'll know all about this policy obviously so I'll let you explain it to me.

This will be deleted too OP - TAAT.

LakieLady · 09/10/2023 09:41

I'm sure there are plenty of forums where it is being discussed, OP. There's a decent thread about it in the politics section on AVForums and I bet there will be others.

I'd give Reddit a swerve though.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 09/10/2023 09:35

Oh interesting. When did that come back? Of course if the last post was yesterday at 9.30am then it's presumably now buried several pages back and no one would have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it?

Indeed. Isn't that very convenient. That's fine, enough people have read it.

PosterBoy · 09/10/2023 09:42

Can't you just use the normal features of the site to track a thread and see what happens to it?

Threads get pulled all the time. People often post on them just to see the deletion message.

Bit like this one ...

Mustardseed86 · 09/10/2023 09:42

It's frustrating. Do they ever reinstate threads they're 'having a look at'? The discussion is important and there were posters who had gone into a lot of depth to educate about the history of the conflict. Can't MNHQ delete anything offensive or any sock puppets and leave the rest?

@Pollyputhekettleon Why the rant? If you have a question or concern then send a message to MNHQ. If you don't like how the site is moderated or run then don't use it - no compulsion to do so is there?

MayThe4th · 09/10/2023 09:43

MN HQ don’t want their members to be having genuine discussions about genuine issues.

it’s fine to let threads full of libellous accusations against celebrities stand, anyone with a disability or child with a disability is fair game because ablist threads and comments are routinely left to stand.

But start a thread about a genuine world event and apparently we’re not able to have that discussion. Never mind that it’s headline news all over the world. God forbid it be allowed to be discussed on mn.

It’s pathetic what gets removed and what doesn’t.

I’m absolutely not arguing but so is the Ukraine. What about the evacuation of civilians as was done in the Ukraine immediately - there has been no mention of anything like this for Israel - and especially where there have been so many women/children/families in general being kidnapped to use as a human shield. I literally cannot think of anything more sickening

yes it is convenient, otherwise the most active board would be full of threads about threads about threads and multiple threads on the same topic

KimberleyClark · 09/10/2023 09:45

If you’ve posted on a thread and it disappears you will get a notification as to the reason why in your I’m On section. Otherwise it just disappears.

Frustrating.

I have a great solution to that which I've set out twice already. It would be incredibly easy to implement. There are probably even more possible solutions too.

Yanbu op.

Ive learned a lot about the complexity of the situation these last few days from those threads. Wish Mnhq would let them stand.

Startingagainandagain · 09/10/2023 09:49

I was following this as well.

They have been ''looking at the thread'' for about a day now.

This is the main news issue so I don't understand why people should not be able to discuss it...

DON'T. MENTION. THE. WAR. Seriously, this thread is informing people where the other one is gone. You're going to get it deleted even faster. Bit of self-control people please.

I was not posting but finding that thread informative, and enlightening- for both sides. I think it’s important to discuss. It certainly got me reflecting a bit more and understanding the nuances beyond the fairytale goodies/ baddies we’re often given. I thought many were able to see that on the thread, that it was a complex and sad situation.
