Enjoyed watching the documentary, he was different than I expected him to be, not sure how really, but I have more respect for Victoria now as I think their lives have been about what he wanted/needed mainly
There are rumours of lots of affairs, is this true though as I find that hard to believe, he seemed so obsessed with her

I admire Victoria Beckham. I have no time for David Beckham. She is the brains behind the spice girls having the money they do. Then she replicated it with her husband. She took someone who she made a mistake with, was pregnant with their first child and made the best of it. She took the harder path that was right for her children.

So many people give her a hard time. I admire her discipline.

Tatslookawful · 06/10/2023 13:50

@Aintnosupermum I thought Geri H was the ‘brains’ behind the Spice Girls with a knack for seeking out the influential & being very single minded. No doubt all
played role & they had Simon Fuller.

Pumpkinoutfitsgalore · 06/10/2023 14:16

I’m not sure if Victoria was the brains behind the spice girls, was she 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's a social media post, not a documentary. The old "he is so sweet and she is SOOOOOOO funny" bullshit. They are both ruthlessly ambitious money obsessed narcs. He has had endless affairs, it is a business relationship. That is not a documentary.

This comment is bs

Sloth66 · 06/10/2023 14:33

There are numerous alleged affairs, possibly even a child born. They like a United front, that’s their business. It’s more the serious tax avoidance and decision to take the Qatar millions despite their already huge wealth that I find greedy and distasteful.

FuckYouEzekiel · 06/10/2023 14:34

Wow,that comment about Katherine Jenkins was scathing!

Aintnosupermum · 06/10/2023 14:58

What Victoria Beckham did for the spice girls was set up fair contracts and made sure they secured and were paid their fair share for endorsements and sponsorships. She was also the one who came up with the personas which was incredibly good branding.

Sporty, Posh, Baby, Ginger and Scary. This then applied much more easily to products. Extremely smart. Then, while they didn’t have an official contract with their original management team, with her fathers help, she figured out how to create a bidding war and the group signed with Virgin. Victoria Beckham was instrumental in this key stage. Without her the spice girls would never have been as successful as they were.

No one gets to be a top class sportsperson these days without a tremendous amount of personal discipline.

Even if you are blessed with talent you need to practice an insane amount. Sure it might be doing something you love, but I imagine it takes an iron will and extreme focus, almost to the point of excluding everything else in your life and it impacts every aspect of your life.

From what I can tell this was why there was a falling out between Ferguson and Beckham, because Ferguson wanted to maintain that focus for the good of the team whereas Beckham wanted to be more than just a footballer.

For the entaintainment industry I expect it is similarly gruelling. Practicing. Relentless touring, publicity and focus on making money while the often short time window for opportunity presents itself.

I suspect both the Beckhams have pretty strong personal discipline to achieve what they have.

He's had his eyes done. Looks off. What a shame.

SallyWD · 06/10/2023 15:15

I haven't watched it but always confused why people see their relationship as one extreme or the other. People seem to think either they have this fairytale romance (as they themselves clearly want us to believe) or their entire relationship is a complete sham, they hate each other and stay together for the "brand". Well I don't believe either of those scenarios - apart from the wealth and fame I think they're probably like any other couple that have been together for nearly 30 years. They probably love each other and sometimes are sick of each other, they've had good times and bad times. Probably an element of staying together as a family for the kids.
One thing I noticed many years ago was how Victoria would always make a very public display of being tactile and affectionate to David - often holding him and kissing him in front of the cameras. What I noticed in these photos wasn't her but how he always looked utterly bored and uninterested in her. She'd be embracing him and looking in to his eyes while he'd be standing there with his arms hanging down looking elsewhere. He did this for years but in recent years he's been reciprocating the affection in public. Either he got told off and told to pose for the cameras! Or he genuinely feels more loving towards her these days.

decionsdecisions62 · 06/10/2023 15:29

Aw David. Let the send off go mate. Life's too short.

Pumpkinoutfitsgalore · 06/10/2023 16:14

His eyes look really tiny, cheeks plumped up too

Wasn’t it Geri who came up with their personas and orchestrated most of the moves of the group? Not Victoria

I do like him though.... Victoria I can't stand her though.

^

Seems to be the general consensus

coxesorangepippin · 06/10/2023 16:20

She was part of the biggest pop group of the 90s, who have left a marked cultural significance on pop culture across the world

^

Bit of a stretch

Pumpkinoutfitsgalore · 06/10/2023 10:53

Seriously?! Wouldn’t there be kids and tells in the papers etc?
What was the story with Katherine?
I feel very sorry for her then, that’s so sad

KJ put out a press release saying the rumours she was having an affair with DB were untrue.
Literally nobody had ever thought they were and nobody was talking about it.

It's not KJ you need to feel sorry for. She'd climb the bones of her dead granny to get her 15 minutes.

Hbh17 · 06/10/2023 16:28

Not seen the doc yet, but the genius of the Beckhams is that they are very ordinary - which is why people relate to them. Yes, his talent (mainly) plus her brief celebrity pushed them into the big money league. They certainly have protected their brand, and I can't say I blame them. If he had an affair, and if Victoria then forgave him, that is both admirable on her part and also very relatable. Forgiveness is a very underrated virtue.

EmmaPaella · 06/10/2023 16:28

Victoria didn’t make a mistake that she had to make the best of getting pregnant with Brooklyn, they were engaged and had been together several years?

PinkMoscatoLover · 06/10/2023 16:32

Pumpkinoutfitsgalore · 06/10/2023 10:25

He just doesn’t appear the type to cheat, he did seem very in love with her

Do you know him? Even if you know someone in real life, you don’t know what people are capable of.

He’s a celebrity. Saying that he doesn’t seem like the type is a bit bonkers when you don’t know him. It’s like me saying Prince Charles doesn’t seem like the type to cheat😂

Mrburnshound · 06/10/2023 17:27

I always thought TOTP magazing made up their nicknames.

LunaNorth · 06/10/2023 17:35

Don’t know about anyone else, but I’m brewing a right crush on Gary Neville watching this…👀

QueenOfTheLabyrinth · 06/10/2023 18:02
  1. It was Victoria, not Geri, who orchestrated things behind the scenes to ensure they were properly paid & was the driving force behind key contracts, branding and their management - the other girls, including Geri, credit her with this themselves in one of the Spice Girls documentaries they did
  2. TOTP magazine gave the Spice Girls their spice persona names; it was a little piece on their celebrity news pages but it was Victoria who saw the potential in them & ran with it. Without her, those names would have been forgotten
flouro · 06/10/2023 18:05

My DC went to school with one of theirs and unfortunately, an affair DB had (with a staff member) was common knowledge. Felt sorry for the child. Despite the 'nice guy' persona, he is a serial cheater. Maybe VB has her own 'side interests' as well, who could blame her? But definitely, don't fall for the highly curated Netflix image. The affairs are all paid off and he just takes out super-injunctions. He's shameless, considering he has 4 children.

FamBae · 06/10/2023 18:20

I remember an article in the newspaper featuring the owner of a beauty salon who went to his mansion to give him fake tans and stated that they heavily petted, he left her a £225 tip and she stated she was glad she hadn't had full sex with him as she would have felt really cheap 🤔

SweetFemaleAttitude · 06/10/2023 18:22

They have one important thing in common and that is their greed.

No money is ever enough for them. Qatar is testament to that.

YeahIsaidit · 06/10/2023 18:42

Not the point of the thread but why are so many people insistent that he must have cheated on her? Tabloid rumours are nothing more than that.... A man can be with someone for years and not cheat even if he is good looking and successful.
