They tell us to help our daughters to protect themselves from male violence by thinking about what they wear, how much they drink, how late to stay out, where they go…
Are we supposed to add to the list ‘not rejecting a bunch of flowers in case you get stabbed to death’. This is horrifying.

I’m so so sick of male violence. It feels everywhere and inescapable. More luck than anything that your daughter isn’t the one. This poor girl and her family.

Teenage boy stabbed girl, 15, to death with 'a machete after argument'

Met Police officers rushed to Wellesley Road outside the Whitgift shopping centre. Paramedics battled to save the 15-year-old's life but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Until Sadiq Khan starts giving a shit about the many children murdering each other in London then nothing will improve. We need far stricter penalties and searches for deadly weapons.

Also, the ones trying to make this a race/class thing should be ashamed. If your first thought on reading that the girl was in private school was ‘oh, she must be white and rich then’, then it’s you who look down on black and Asian people. Many black and Asian children attend private schools throughout the UK, and especially in London.

Zanatdy · 27/09/2023 18:44

It’s a girls school so he wasn’t from the same school. Arrested in new addington which is a deprived area. Chances are he wasn’t a private school pupil but who knows. Just a truly hideous incident

Eye opening that people are so willing to take away my and my three son’s liberty, label us as a ‘them’ or even ‘vaporise’ the four of us because we were all born with a penis and some other people with penises do some awful things.

Eye opening that me and my 3 daughters have to learn from a young age to alter our behaviour, carry your keys in your hand, cross the road, be careful what you wear, drink, do in public, adapt to being subjected to overtly misogynistic language and behaviour at school, work, on nights etc because we have vaginas - but hey ho - sorry it hurts your feelings - all that male privilege must be a burden

OTOH my liberty, and that of my DDs and their female friends is severely curtailed because of the actions of men and older teenagers.

But wah wah - i should worry that their mummies might complain about that? Tough shit. We KNOW there is a problem of VAWG and that a lot of it comes from men who are too stupidly emotionally immature to accept rejection.

Time for other men to step up and be role models and to police other male behaviour.
And the police can step up too.

Your neighbour hopefully doesn’t carry his knife as a weapon. Hopefully he puts it away safely and securely after he’s used it to cut the hedge. He’s not walking around town with his knife intending to kill.

Indeed, he is a responsible, community minded good neighbour. But people were expressing surprise that these are available.

There may be many in garden sheds… and internet ordering takes care of the ban of sales to U18s.

I went to her school and was neither white nor privileged. That school has a lot of bursaries (they just announced it's closing in 2025 though) and, as others have said, a large non-white pupil population.

Ellie Gould was the exact case I was thinking of and I see someone mentioned it above, I was going to raise it to counter the dog whistles about Croydon's "demographics". Youth violence and male violence affects all races. Ava White, Rhys Jones and Ellie Gould were white. If a man or boy wants to kill you, he will, because society has emboldened them to do so.

neveradullmoment99 · 27/09/2023 16:52

er no!
Not all men are like that. Stop with this anti men nonsense

Oh FGS! A girl has just been murdered by her ex-boyfriend in broad daylight on her way to school and you're taking offence for men. Jesus, can you not give the handmaiden shit a rest for ONE day and have a bit of respect?

AprilDecember · 27/09/2023 18:48

Their killers were white too, I meant to add.

Crumpleton · 27/09/2023 18:48

Grim in any case to make sweeping and incorrect generalisations about young people but truly revolting to turn a young woman's murder into an opportunity to complain about a clean air measure.

While I agree the generalisation part is wrong this incident is exactly what the mayor of London should be focusing on and would probably say the same sentence re using this incident being grim to cover up the fact that it did even happen or that he should do anything to prevent it happening again.

Fuckthatguy · 27/09/2023 18:49

@SweetcornFritter yes assumed you were raising a son, because of your statement around not having enough information to make any judgements.

Nothing to wait and see about at all, he had flowers if she decided to continue a relationship and a fucking machete if she didn’t. You seems way to complacent about this.

Cosycardigans · 27/09/2023 18:49

İt's not a new thing. I grew up in London and have been threatened with knives from my male classmates. One boy I was seeing held a knife to my thigh just to watch me shake when I was still doing my GCSEs. İt was the 'norm' to so many boys growing up around me to be a part of that violent knife and weapon culture. Used to watch grange hill with longing for a more normal environment.

Fuckthatguy · 27/09/2023 18:50

The only fucking demographic of any relevance here is male. Jesus wept.

bookworm14 · 27/09/2023 18:52

Look at this list. https://kareningalasmith.com/2019/03/10/2019/

There are women there of every age, race and background, from every area of the UK. This isn’t about London, or race, or Sadiq Khan, or gangs, or whatever other narrative you want to shoehorn in. It’s about male violence against women and girls.

2019

2019 At least 117 UK women have been killed by men (or where a man is the principal suspect) in 2019. 1 January 2019: Charlotte Huggins, 33 was stabbed in the early hours of New Year’s Day in Londo…

I think it is always the time to say it is wrong to threaten me or my children because of the actions of others (however implausible those threats may be). "Off you trot"...good grief. As a mother of a son I am sure you would you be happy for him to be tagged, have a curfew or vaporised or have people discuss these things openly?

itsgettingweird · 27/09/2023 18:54

This is truly horrifying.

He clearly took that knife with him knowing there's a chance she'd say she meant to end it.

What's happening in this country that people are thinking like that.

Brefugee · 27/09/2023 18:54

As the mother of daughters, if it stopped one woman/girl being killed? yeah, I'd be happy for all boys and men to be constantly under scrutiny. All. The. Time.

mummymeister · 27/09/2023 18:55

I really, really dont fecking care what colour either of them were. or which school they went to. or their family income or anything else. I care that women and girls are effectively being made housebound. we cant go out, we cant eat out we cant visit friends or go to the shops or live any sort of full life because SOME men have no civilisation. they are not civilised. How has this happened? How are their main carers, who are women bringing these little shits into the world when there is no father on the scene. why do these mothers feel so worthless they only feel valued with a baby on their hip and a man on their lips. why do we excuse it as anger issues, adh whatever the latest fecking fad is, why. why are we allowing porn when the overwhelming majority of adults arent interested in it. why are we giving AT air space and allowing him to spread his bile. we tiptoe round people and talk about their rights all the time. yet no one absolutely no one is standing up for the rights of that poor girl. and yes, I am livid, furious and think we need to take a long hard look at the shit we are in and put in whatever draconian measures are necessary to put a stop to this. and if I upset some poor ickle bit of male priviledge I dont care. I really dont. because you are either the problem or the solution now. it has to stop, it has to stop.

LuluBlakey1 · 27/09/2023 18:56

What kind of child carries a machete and a bunch of roses - girl 'he loves' either does what he wants her to do or he kills her? He must be seriously disturbed. It's absolutely shocking.

Machete! I remember as a teenager reading about machetes being used in a war in Africa to massacre people. I'd never heard of one before and asked my dad what it was. I've never forgotten how he described it. 'A big, sharp, heavy knife like a long axe- your grandad said they used them used for chopping at trees and undergrowth in the jungle in Malaya in the second world war.Terrible things to use on people.'

And now teenagers carry them to school in the UK.

SlightlyJaded · 27/09/2023 18:42

This really hit.

Just waiting for some fucking woke twat to cite 'Crime of Passion'. This is nothing to do with passion. It is a Hate Crime.

Who is to blame? I'd start with:

Andrew Tate et al and their incel rooted fucking hate speech
Specific Rappers/Grime Artists and their culture of portraying women as sexual possessions
Porn industry for making boys believe that girls desperately want them
Sadiq Khan and the Met Police for dicking about on Instagram to look cool and pussy footing around in case of causing offense, instead of coming down hard on knife crime

Not parents (in the main). Not schools. Not Kids mentors and youth workers - most of whom are doing their best against an absolute deluge of misogynistic, anti-women culture that is all over our music, our social media and as the news would tell us, even our police force.

It's a fucking mess.

It's a horrific terrible thing.

Please god let this be the moment where the people in power are finally shamed into making change happen. I don't know where you start but stop and search with hard and enforced penalty for carrying a weapon would be something. RIP that poor poor girl.

I hadn’t thought of that passion phrase and I hope I never hear it as it’s rank and so wrong

Sadiq Khan needs to step up and be accountable for London as it is

Tantaijin · 27/09/2023 19:00

What's happening in this country that people are thinking like that.

Off the top of my head modern reasons could be:

Weak community and family authority figures.

Piss poor parenting and lack of online supervision leading to hardcore porn and incel bollocks rotting boys brains from a young age.

Increasing gang violence fuelled by drug profits and glorification of this through music, social media and popular culture.

But misogyny is hardly a new phenomenon.

LuluBlakey1 · 27/09/2023 19:01

So many men hate women. So many men who publicly state it and show it in what they say and do. And it is now so mainstream- it is rarely questioned by other men either as an attitude or a behaviour

It's terrifying.

As a mother of two teenage sons, I would be more than happy to discuss tags and curfews for men/boys. It seems this would be the only way to get men to look at their actions and for the good ones to try to implement a change.
Women have had their movements restricted for too long now.

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 27/09/2023 19:02

I follow someone on twitter who said her friends daughter was stabbed in the leg on the bus by a boy she'd refused a date with. Despite evidence, CCTV, nothing was done, he had a slap on the wrist and she was advised not to take the bus.

"Do you really want to do this?" "He has such a promising future" "boys will be boys" "I'm sure he's very sorry" "you'll ruin his life" "he's only joking" "yes I can see that's not a nice message to receive but he hasn't actually hurt you has he?"

It's all very well educating our sons but what message do they get when VAWG gets a bloody slap on the wrist?

Porn/Incel movement/Misogynistic influencers have a lot to answer for. Men who've grown up with a message they're entitled to sex, entitled to affection, entitled to women's bodies. Like we're pieces of meat. Choking, hitting, spitting, and girls thinking that's what sex is Sad

But the lack of action is also to blame. Nothing gets done until a woman or girl is killed. And then it's too late. You can't bring her back.

None of this maaaaate bollocks. Throw the fucking book at each and every one of them. Shut down this normalisation of violent porn. Ideally get it all offline. It can go back on the top shelf of the newsagents with a strict age limit and no violent content whatsoever. Cut every one of those misogynistic dickwads off at the socials. Same for any online incel message boards, egging each other on in an echo chamber of woman hate.

But then that's too much fucking effort isn't it.

As a mother of a daughter I'm absolutely horrified and saddened, both by today's events but knowing unless there are some serious fucking shake ups, that poor girl won't be the last.
