One for the ladies.. my first Hollywood wax was horrendous

I thought my pain threshold was okay. I’ve had microblading, lip fillers, nose piercing.. but I’ve never felt pain like it.

I went for a Hollywood this morning and ended up getting an extended bikini wax because I couldn’t stand the pain any longer! I gave up. It honestly made me nearly cry and she wasn’t even at the worst bit yet. She did mention that because I had shaved last week, it’ll be more sensitive and also because my period was also last week.

It still really really hurts now and it feels burny/really uncomfortable.

All I can think is why the hell would I put myself through such ridiculous and expensive pain for the sake of a man (because let's face it, nobody is getting waxed while single), and it really made me think. Never again

Err, I’ve been getting waxed regularly for more than 20 years, irrespective of whether or not I’ve been having sex. I do it for me, because I prefer it, not for any man.

cardibach · 19/09/2023 20:39

Sorry - are you saying if your bloke had liked you unnaturally hairless you would have continued doing something so painful it made you cry?

Yeah wtf? I do it because I like it. DH can like it or lump it. No way would I do it for him, or not do it for him.

LuckyAmy1986 · 19/09/2023 20:54

roastytoastysnowballs · 19/09/2023 20:26

A lot of it is down to the waxer

I can have a normal conversation with my waxing lady at all times

Once she went to Peru for a month..

I went to someone else

I still don't like talking about it

I agree. If it was THAT bad try someone else. And LYCON!!!! It only removes the hair, not the skin.

TicTac80 · 19/09/2023 21:18

Lycon is great! I find it much better/less painful than strip wax for doing more intimate waxing. My beautician is fab, we chat about all sorts whilst she's doing the waxing and it doesn't take long at all. I go maybe every 2-3 months. FWIW, I've been single (and celibate!) for nearly 5yrs. The only people who see that part of me are healthcare professionals and my beautician. I get waxed because I want to, not for any man.

LuckyAmy1986 · 19/09/2023 21:30

I also used to get waxed when I was single! I also shave my legs and underarms when single. Also get my eyebrows waxed! Go figure...

Notellinganyone · 19/09/2023 20:25

Seriously why bother? Madness.

Haha this. I use an trimmer and it's so perfect. No pain. So satisfying to do. Nice neat hair.

But, if you really want the hairless look, waxing is the price you have to pay, there's no getting around it unless you have very fair hair!

SunSeaSand55 · 19/09/2023 21:41

I am curious but a total wuss and would be too embarrassed. Also what about your big fanny flaps (if you have them 🤣) don't they get in the way?!

Nam3chang384 · 19/09/2023 21:45

Not all waxes are equal, she might have been bad at doing them. I’ve had good ones and really bad ones.

Did she use the kind of wax that needs strips, or not? Strip wax on your bikini line is much worse and especially the inner parts.

in my experience a good Hollywood wax is uncomfortable but not terrible.

They just move them out the way!

for one thing - clitoral stimulation is much better when hairless, imo

They have seen it ALL before and know what to do!

GoryBory · 19/09/2023 18:46

@JustWhatWeDontNeed

Can you get laser over the entire area?

Can you get it around your anus?

Do you need to wax before you do it?

I am not brave enough to get a wax but shaving drives me mad.

Yep, you can get it all removed with laser, including butt crack. Not sure how close they'll go to the anus, pretty close I'd reckon.

You need to shave before treatment as the laser singes hair so if they're long they'll burn your skin.

It generally works best with dark hair on light skin, but things have changed since I had it done so I think there's more options if your hair is light or your skin is dark.

Theroom · 19/09/2023 22:19

I don't know how anyone tolerates it. I've had my legs waxed twice and I was crying with pain. Never again. I'd rather go through labour again than let anyone wax my pubes.

Rileytoomuchtea · 19/09/2023 22:23

First is the most painful. I did take Ibuprofen after my first time though!

SomeCatFromJapan · 19/09/2023 22:24

Fortunately my bloke hated it and I never had to go back.

I thought woman had it done for themselves?

Katiemag · 19/09/2023 22:33

snackatack · 19/09/2023 19:38

Is a hollywood worse than armpit waxing (I tried doing that myself in lock down.. owww)

I find armpit waxing worse - it stings more after the strip is off. Whereas Hollywood with lycon wax, the anticipation is worse than reality.

Also with armpits, it takes 2 seconds to shave. So the cost v benefit isn’t worth it for me.

To me, waxing is a personal choice provided you’re only making the decision about your own body. Similar to things like facial aesthetics (Botox, fillers, etc), there should be no pressure on women to do it but equally no shame on those who choose to.

Don't be disingenous, please. You're always on these hair removal threads, along with your cohort, telling women that they are stupid/lack of critical thinking/porn-led/<add other insult of choice>. Essentially, you won't let women be which is a shame because you have zero power over other people's choices which is exactly as it should be.

I'm not singling you out, I've nodded with your posts many times on feminist issues but not this one. Demeaning women for their choices is pathetic. You don't like or respect our choices? That's fine, make your own, I'll respect your right to make them without trying to make you feel stupid or inferior for them, whatever they are.

Some of us prefer to remove our pubic hair because we do. It really is nobody else's business.

SomeCatFromJapan · 19/09/2023 22:48

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe Actually I was genuinely taken aback at that particular post, also this is a very new username so I think you may have me mixed up with a different poster.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 19/09/2023 22:53

You might be right there. I think I was posting to CatFromJapan who also has very strong views on women who choose to remove their own body hair.

I'm not sure about your post, it sounds a bit off but I will apologise as I really do think I've mixed you up with CatFromJapan, so apologies.

SomeCatFromJapan · 19/09/2023 22:56

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe ah possibly, very similar names, not deliberately so I'm just a Bowie fan.

PeachF · 20/09/2023 07:48

I bloody love a Brazilian. As painful as it is I could never go back to shaving.
But that's just what works for me.
I've always felt envious of women who are confident as they are and can rock a bush! Whatever makes you happy!

SquashPenguin · 20/09/2023 07:55

I used to get it done all the time, it’s definitely worse the week before your period. I then had it all lasered off and now I use an epilator on the bits that come through. Hurts like fuck but I love the result 😆

Kyogo67 · 20/09/2023 08:21

It doesn't hurt much at all if you have a good waxer and Lycon wax.

Another good alternative is Woo Woo cream NOT Veet as it is designed for intimate areas and only takes 6 mins and then you rinse off

GeneralLevy · 20/09/2023 08:24

I think hair texture and density is a massive factor. My friend is all fluffy and delicate and swears it’s fine. In my case it’s more like waxing a carpet off its weave. Even hair removing cream just bleaches it a bit 😂

Every generation has their version of female mutilation.
Foot binding, corsets, high heels, waxing, cosmetic surgery.

It never ends.
