One for the ladies.. my first Hollywood wax was horrendous

I thought my pain threshold was okay. I’ve had microblading, lip fillers, nose piercing.. but I’ve never felt pain like it.

I went for a Hollywood this morning and ended up getting an extended bikini wax because I couldn’t stand the pain any longer! I gave up. It honestly made me nearly cry and she wasn’t even at the worst bit yet. She did mention that because I had shaved last week, it’ll be more sensitive and also because my period was also last week.

It still really really hurts now and it feels burny/really uncomfortable.

for one thing - clitoral stimulation is much better when hairless, imo

As a happy bush owner… eh? No one has hair on their clit. How does that thinking work?

Obviously not, but I find a smooth and hairless surrounding area feels nicer.

Every generation has their version of female mutilation.
Foot binding, corsets, high heels, waxing, cosmetic surgery.

It never ends.

Do you consider male grooming, like waxing eyebrows or even daily shaving mutilation? Genuine question, I’m not being snarky.

Pubic waxing or other grooming is not mutilation, FGS.
And it's OPTIONAL, a choice. It's also not a new thing.
As you can see from this thread, some do it; many others don't. Would you like to take away a woman's choice to do whatever she likes to her body?

I think hair texture and density is a massive factor. My friend is all fluffy and delicate and swears it’s fine. In my case it’s more like waxing a carpet off its weave. Even hair removing cream just bleaches it a bit 😂

😂"My friend" - I thought you were talking about your bits !

I don’t know any man that has ever waxed. Shaving is not painful.

some men wax or pluck their eyebrows, given that’s the case, would you consider it mutilation? Women also have the option of shaving their pubic area, personally I prefer to wax, because I find the trade off of not having to do it frequently massively outweighs the discomfort of waxing (I don’t think it’s that bad, personally). I’m genuinely interested in your view but I’m struggling to understand why, if I choose waxing over shaving (which I guess from your previous post you don’t think is mutilation, correct me if I’m wrong) then it somehow becomes something different?

dooneyousmugelf · 20/09/2023 09:00

@KaySararSarar sorry I only just saw this! I just buy Nad's Brazilian+bikini wax from Superdrug or Boots, whenever it's on offer really.
My tips are to do it in a warm room because then the wax doesn't go back to being solid as quickly. If it does, whack it back in the microwave (as many times as needed if it's taking you a while). I agree with others not to do it around period time as it definitely does hurt more.

As for some of the posts here...nothing to do with partners preferences. Maybe DP would prefer hair? I don't know cos I've never asked him and he's not daft enough to comment 😂

It’s a ridiculous comparison
Having your intimate areas waxed is a world away in terms of pain, cost and dignity than a 2 min eyebrow job.

The mutilation of women’s bodies throughout history is well documented. Waxing, fillers, Botox, cosmetic surgery is just the latest example.

All of those things are optional. And all bar cosmetic surgery are temporary, so are NOT mutilation.

but is it still mutilation if I could shave but choose to wax? Is it suddenly different?

Lastchancechica · 20/09/2023 09:20

It is mutilation. In my view.

Lastchancechica · 20/09/2023 09:21

It is cultural too, other continents do not practice this.

MarkWithaC · 20/09/2023 09:22

I've never had a bits wax of any kind, but I once went for an underarm wax just before my period (the most sensitive point in my cycle) and that was bad enough!

Lastchancechica · 20/09/2023 09:26

It is linked to the damage and pain inflicted. It’s not just the outcome. Waxing causes bleeding, pain and inflamed and sore skin, the hair literally being ripped out at the roots, if anyone did the same for example on your head it would be prosecuted as assault.

You have been conditioned to believe as a woman to expect and endure pain for beauty treatments that are not remotely essential. You are also paying ridiculous amounts to suffer and have your hair ripped out. Anyone looking objectively might consider it barbaric.

SheIIy · 20/09/2023 09:29

In all fairness, shaving a beard is not the same as ripping hairs from the follicles on your genitals...

Not sure I'd call it mutilation though, there's no long term impact, only a bot of pain

I personally am not doing or paying for any of those things, and, if you've read the thread, neither are many others. Nor do I or many others feel conditioned to.

You're being very insulting and condescending to women who are making choices about what they want to do with their own bodies. Would you really deny them that choice?

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 20/09/2023 09:33

I tell a lie... I pay a couple of £ for own brand wax strips for my upper lip!

ShadyPaws · 20/09/2023 09:56

Very grateful I can't have waxing after reading this Grin
Intrigued by the trimmer linked further up though

bryceQ · 20/09/2023 09:57

Waxing was practiced in ancient Greece! It's hardly new

Women can choose to pay and suffer for a bald vagina if they wish. The issue isn’t one of choice. You can see a million salons operating to service waxing.

The issue is the barbarity of the procedure. In the future generations of women will be incredulous that we paid for such procedures in 2023.
It certainly is not insulting to highlight having hair ripped out of your most delicate areas is not exactly progress!!

There are several women on this thread who can't keep their noses out of other women's pubic hair. If they had the power, I'm sure they would exercise it. Patriarchy would just become a matriarchy. Same shit, different bucket.

This thread was to discuss/recommend different methods of waxing. As usual, it has to descend into snide and insulting comments to women about something which is entirely personal and which women are free to choose or refuse, whichever they like.

There's usually much comment about shaving with some aspects being acceptable to the terminally nosey - legs up to knees or whatever they personally agree with. Hypocrisy all the way but, as long as they can bounce onto a thread to denigrate other women, objective achieved.

BIossomtoes · 20/09/2023 10:09

I entirely agree with your first paragraph @LyingWitchInTheWardrobe and it extends way beyond body hair. There’s a tendency towards dogmatism here on all sorts of issues. I was told on one memorable occasion that I was the wrong kind of feminist. 🙄

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 20/09/2023 10:09

Thanks @LyingWitchInTheWardrobe you have, very eloquently, saved me the bother of further response.
Using emotive words such as "barbaric" and "mutilation" to shame women about their choices is disgraceful.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 20/09/2023 10:11

Do you believe you actually have any influence over other people, LastChanceChica? You can use whatever inflammatory terms you like, ripping, bald vagina (which is really not possible).

I used to be proud of holding feminist ideals but I'm really not any more because I don't like being in the company of women who do exactly what you and others of your ilk are doing. You're talking to women as if they don't understand the process, the pain or the cost. Patronising just about covers it.

If you like to believe that women do this only for men then you must. It's not true in many cases, certainly not for me. Women get away with creepy behaviour that men would not, because they are women. A man taking this much interest would be told to fuck off in no uncertain terms.
