One for the ladies.. my first Hollywood wax was horrendous

I thought my pain threshold was okay. I’ve had microblading, lip fillers, nose piercing.. but I’ve never felt pain like it.

I went for a Hollywood this morning and ended up getting an extended bikini wax because I couldn’t stand the pain any longer! I gave up. It honestly made me nearly cry and she wasn’t even at the worst bit yet. She did mention that because I had shaved last week, it’ll be more sensitive and also because my period was also last week.

It still really really hurts now and it feels burny/really uncomfortable.

What’s hairy hoop?

Anus?🍩

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 19/09/2023 18:44

Could you go for laser instead? I think I had the equivalent of an extended bikini line over ten years ago. I only get the odd hair come through these days.

You can then maintain your landing strip however you see fit. Or you could laser off the whole lot.

It's a bit uncomfortable while they do it, but not excruciating by any means.

Cosyblankets · 19/09/2023 18:44

Go to a salon that only does waxing not a salon that does everything.
Make sure they use lycon hot wax not strips.
You need a couple of weeks growth.
I have a low pain threshold but I've been going for years. The last time it hurt was after lockdown because there was loads but with regular waxing it really shouldn't hurt

LookingForPurpose · 19/09/2023 18:44

@NowWhattt

The ring of stragglers/ public hair around your anus.

GoryBory · 19/09/2023 18:46

@JustWhatWeDontNeed

Can you get laser over the entire area?

Can you get it around your anus?

Do you need to wax before you do it?

I am not brave enough to get a wax but shaving drives me mad.

LuckyAmy1986 · 19/09/2023 18:47

@minty I said this on your other thread but

Lycon!

Hurts way less

also you might like to try another person if it was that bad. Some really are better than others

PermanentTemporary · 19/09/2023 18:47

In my view it's about 80% technique. Try a different salon. I've had a few really uncomfortable ones but most are OK, the first one I had was luckily with the best local waxer and I was amazed how fine it was. Overall definitely better with some painkillers on board. The ones who are a bit scared of doing it are terrible (though I don't at all blame them, would hate to do it myself).

Honestly it gets better. I'm a few years into my waxing journey and I barely flinch now apart from the central strip, can have a normal conversation about dogs and houses etc during the treatment. Would really recommend going to someone who specialises in waxing , using hot wax only. It they try using warm wax and paper strips on you will hurt far more !

This is making me wince just reading that! 😁

VanillaFlotilla · 19/09/2023 18:50

Hang on OP, you shaved a week before getting waxed? How could they even wax you with so little growth?

Ilovemycar77 · 19/09/2023 18:50

I actually went and had my usual Hollywood wax carried out this morning.
I went to a different salon today as my usual (for over 20yrs) was not available and I am going away this weekend!
I was a little apprehensive using a new lady, but actually she was quicker and it hurt a lot less.
I get mine carried out every 6 weeks and I wouldn’t say the pain gets any less, Injust am used to it now.
I find that if I continue to talk the whole procedure, it works best for me.
all done and dusted within 15minutes.
I cannot imagine not having it done.
I hate pubic hair on me. Feel fresher and cleaner without it.

N4ish · 19/09/2023 18:51

Surely you have to stop and ask yourself why you’re putting yourself through this pain? Who is benefiting from it? Is it really so important to be hairless?

MyShmoo · 19/09/2023 18:55

Well yes you are having your pubic hair forcefully RIPPED out 😂
I tried once and never again, I use hair removal cream now and although I hate the smell of the cream it's painfree

dooneyousmugelf · 19/09/2023 18:56

I do my own these days using the hot wax you microwave. I've got my technique down and it takes about 10 mins.
I do quite enjoy the feeling of the wax going on 🤣 and whipping it off and seeing the hair on the strips of wax is so satisfying!

Chronicallyknackered · 19/09/2023 19:00

I'm similar when short on money or during COVID started doing my own. Congratulations on getting it down to 10 mins, mine takes me nearly an hour 😂 maybe I need to toughen up and do bigger sections ! Or stop counting down 3..2..1....1...2.....3..... before I rip the delicate parts. It is satisfying seeing hair follicles on the wax though

BIossomtoes · 19/09/2023 19:01

It made me cry on the first occasion I had it done. Fortunately my bloke hated it and I never had to go back.

mushroomushroom · 19/09/2023 19:01

I had it a couple of times when I was 20 and it was horrendous, I bled 😬

Since then I decided only to trim whenever I became uncomfortable with pube length (ie it "interacted" with period or discharge) and I have never been happier.

All I can think is why the hell would I put myself through such ridiculous and expensive pain for the sake of a man (because let's face it, nobody is getting waxed while single), and it really made me think. Never again.

Maybe take this as an opportunity to think about why you want it, and whether it's actually worth it, especially when you consider only yourself.

Notsure94 · 19/09/2023 19:02

I gave up on them - too expensive and just horrendous pain, not to mention the indignity and tbh you can get the same result using a decent razor on dry skin/hair (must be a new blade) then a soak in an oily bath. Takes minutes.

Precipice · 19/09/2023 19:02

What's your AIBU?

YABU to put yourself through pain to pretend you're not a grown mammal who's grown pubic hair. YANBU to have stopped the initially planned procedure because of the pain.

madeinmanc · 19/09/2023 19:06

The ring of stragglers/ public hair around your anus.

Only some people have this, not all, just for info. It was established on a previous waxing thread.

SENDhelp2023 · 19/09/2023 19:06

Go slowly an inch more each time, can’t lie they are painful

VesperLynne · 19/09/2023 19:15

NowWhattt · 19/09/2023 18:42

I shave mine as the alternative.
I absolutely don’t want a hairy fanny , even though hair is meant to be there and and hats off to those of you who put yourselves through the agony of having it waxed.
It literally makes me cross my legs at even the thought of it.

Me too.

HowcanIhelp123 · 19/09/2023 19:24

I have Hollywood waxes, and while I can feel it I don't personally find it hurts (but I'm also a masochist that thinks epilation tickles 🤣). But I love the person I go to. She loves waxing!

Once she wasn't available so I went somewhere else. More expensive, proper highly rated beauty spa place. It was awful! It really really REALLY hurt! If I'd gone there first I'd never have gotten a wax again. She just didn't know how to use the hot wax properly. I now just wait for my usual to be free no matter what!

KaySararSarar · 19/09/2023 19:30

@dooneyousmugelf Uber impressed!! Can you link the wax you use please - I’d love to have a go at trying it. Do you have Any tips for a DIY’er?

ASGIRC · 19/09/2023 19:35

My skin down there is really sensitive, and the wax ended up ripping out parts of it,, and bleeding became a thing, so I just got myself a waterproof trimmer, so I just tidy it all up in the shower, every couple of weeks!
