Tesco is Discontinuing My Cereal

Look, I know there are bigger problems, but damn, Tesco - it was delicious and my breakfasting heart is broken.

I kind of knew the writing was on the wall when it went up to £4 for 500g. It’s hard to prioritise granola during a cost of living crisis, but I was prepared to. Tesco has just wimped out.

AIBU to think supermarkets inflict untold suffering on their customers when they discontinue objectively delicious food?

I've never forgiven M & S for dropping their parsnip and Gruyere bake. It was the very early 90s, I was living alone for the first time in my life in a new city and that little dish of deliciousness made my life better. It was like a death when they discontinued it

I forgot - Fragonard have sneakily discontinued my favourite perfume - Marché aux Fleurs. If they’d warned me, I could have stocked up. 😪

Etsy seller has two bottles listed - get in quick!

Asda are about to break me.

They currently sell a limited edition (so they have ' technically ' warned me, but I know I didn't agree) salted caramel with coconut whipped Greek yogurt tub of heaven.
I AM ADDICTED to this stuff. With a handful of oats mixed in.
Currently trying to create my own using their Greek coconut yogurt and their extra special caramel sauce. Yogurt works but the caramel sauce tastes artificial, burnt and so sweet it makes my teeth sing.

And as for Reece's, when they first exploded on the market you could buy a Reece's wafer bar (like a softer peanut butter kit kat) and they were divine and extremely moreish - I could eat 2-3 packs.

Maybe it's a good thing I can't buy them anymore 😂

M&S used to do a wonderful prawn, egg and mayo seeded roll, and I used to have one at least once a week for my lunch at work.

Discontinued years ago and I still yearn for it.

These were my most favourite M&S sandwich ever. Poppy seed roll as I remember, just the best. They also used to make a three bean salad with celery that was amazing too. All other three bean salads are shit in comparison and I've tried a lot,

BelladonnaTheWitch · 22/08/2023 21:32

Yes yes to Orange Viscounts. Used to buy them for a treat with Canada Dry ginger ale and those biscuits with a layer of jam and little blobs of different coloured coconut marshmallow. And Crawford's Orange and lemon creams, can't find those any more either.

Oh and you know those soft cheese rings with the pineapple coating? I swear you used to be amble to get them with a walnut coating and they were lush but I never see them nowadays.

redrighthand83 · 22/08/2023 21:50

I swear I can still taste M and S pea and wasabi dip. It was divine.

I just looked it up - it’s not a specific tesco brand. But it looks like it’s out of stock on the spoon website. Might be worth speaking to them, as you can buy cases direct from them too, rather than having to use Amazon. I wonder if they’re just waiting on another production run, or if Spoon themselves have discontinued it?

Wait - it might be temporarily out of stock? As in, it could come back?!

I hardly dare get my hopes up.

For the Entenmann's fans, you can buy a couple of their products on this website:

www.foodlionuk.shop/product/entenmanns-minis-apple-snack-pies-uk-online-hot-sale/

M&S just continually gets rid of the stuff I like, I try not to get too attached to anything 😩

BlackJumpsuit · 22/08/2023 22:40

On second thoughts, that website looks really dodgy sorry 🥲

ohdamnitjanet · 23/08/2023 13:53

For a very short window Tesco sold Sun Pat crunchy salted caramel peanut butter. I’ll never get over the loss.
Just Googled it and it’s £16 on eBay 😆

Maiisydaiisy · 23/08/2023 13:56

Iceland! But be quick, it’s on clearance to make room for Christmas x

ahhh phone didn’t post it right, this was in response to Heinz baconaise

oh and another one which the hot chocolate coming above reminded me off. costa replacing their marshmallows to vegan ones. they are not the same. i loved hot chocolate there and the marshmallows would melt and be a lovely treat at the end of it. now they don't melt and taste of bubblegum why

Agreed ! It’s never been the same since!

Gumptionesque · 23/08/2023 14:08

Omg, I loved this sandwich! I’m always underwhelmed when I look at their range, and now I realise why. I’m looking for this and it’s no longer there. I used to have it with their salt and vinegar crinkle cut crisps crunched inside it. Oh.

Tesco in my area has stopped selling:
• Proper Nutty smunchy peanut butter, which was the peacekeeper in my household (DP basically wants whole peanuts, I want smooth)
• their version of Fox jam & cream biscuits
• their version of those sachet caffe lattes, which we liked for work & travel
Among many other things...

I got that peanut butter at Morrisons the other week, was on offer too

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 23/08/2023 14:32

I completely get where you're coming from. My husband and I still haven't forgiven Asda for discontinuing their sausages that had pomelo (I think) tomato bits in them. They were gorgeous when barbecued. I even wrote to them when I realised what was happening to ask if there were any left somewhere that I could purchase and freeze myself! It's been nearly 10 years and I'm still cross about this.

chesterelly1 · 23/08/2023 14:42

Just Right got too expensive as a box lasts DS about 4 days. Now I mix Aldi cornflakes and benefit flakes with flaked almonds and raisins. You get about 10 times the amount for the same price. I call it Mum's Right. Oh how DS laughs but at least he eats it.

Sidge · 23/08/2023 17:02

M&S used to do large bags of ready salted square crisps. No more 😭

PriamFarrl · 23/08/2023 17:05

PinkFootstool · 22/08/2023 18:25

Waitrose no longer sell the lemon Tesseire syrup. No one else stocks it either. Even Amazon want to scalp me £12/bottle for it or I can pay import prices and buy in bulk from a French website.

I am bereft.

So, I've written to Lidl to beg them to add French sirop to French week. Maybe I need a petition for anyone else in a similar position?

Try your local Polish shop. They do very similar syrups that are a fraction of the price and still proper sugar.

pissingglitter · 23/08/2023 17:22

My husband has never got over Burger King discontinuing the mushroom double swiss burger!

Chenford · 23/08/2023 17:24

Tesco stopped their ‘Gold Rush’ ice cream years ago, which absolutely pissed all over anything else I’ve ever tried before or since.

Utter, utter bastards.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 23/08/2023 17:28

Kelloggs Start was the most amazing cereal :(

NCTDN · 23/08/2023 17:39

I too mourn toast toppers, but not enough to go to the effort of that recipe!
On a similar note, findus crispy pancakes! I loved the cheese ones.

Djchickpea · 23/08/2023 17:40

Whole Earth 3 nut butter! The perfect combination of nuts (peanuts, hazelnuts, cashews). No added sugar, absolutely delish. Stopped making it at some point during covid, assume because of rising costs. I still pine for it, and check their website occasionally for a change of heart!!

Also totally agree with the M&S prawn and egg seeded roll, and apple and cheese sarnie.
