Tesco is Discontinuing My Cereal

RhymesWithTangerine · 22/08/2023 15:24

Look, I know there are bigger problems, but damn, Tesco - it was delicious and my breakfasting heart is broken.

I kind of knew the writing was on the wall when it went up to £4 for 500g. It’s hard to prioritise granola during a cost of living crisis, but I was prepared to. Tesco has just wimped out.

AIBU to think supermarkets inflict untold suffering on their customers when they discontinue objectively delicious food?

@Notooserious They are so much better than regular ones, aren't they?! I now regret everything I may have said when they put up the price of the packs recently... Just bring them back!

MonumentalLentil · 22/08/2023 18:57

I will never forgive the loss of Heck 'The Beet Goes on Sausages'. They just suggested that they have others in their range, but they were the only ones I wanted, ever.

Crunchymum · 22/08/2023 18:58

Oh and I forgot the Waitrose Pecorino dip (which I then replaced with the aforementioned Bang Bang dip). Both gone, it's like the universe doesn't want me to have nice dips. Or to smell nice!!

Gensola · 22/08/2023 18:59

I came on to mourn the apple and cheese sandwich at M&S but I see others got there first! It’s weirdly comforting to know I’m not the only one who remembers it 😁
I also miss Start cereal 🤤

BelladonnaTheWitch · 22/08/2023 19:00

I do like a lot of peanut butter that's currently available, but the Sun Pat Creamy Crunch was a real favourite. Though almost certainly 100% unethical.

And...Gipsy Creams. No need to say more. I will never ever forgive McVities.

Callipygion · 22/08/2023 19:00

Non-food - I miss Witch Doctor irritated skin gel, which I can no longer find anywhere for over a year or two now. It was brilliant on itchy bites etc.

Notooserious · 22/08/2023 19:00

@evtheria we give our daughter one each day after nursery…I kept having to go and get another packet before I collected her as I would just eat them all 🤭

I love that granola too dammit, and Waitrose is too far away! And also I don't make the trip to Waitrose as often any more because they have discontinued the lovely French pistachio cream pudding things they used to do and were totally worth the 20 mile round trip 😭.

Noooo!
It says "temporarily unavailable" on the website... dare I hope that's true? They've discontinued my favourite ice cream sticks so I'm still in a huff with them.

Years ago, Wetherspoons replaced their carbonara with pasta alfredo. It's a similar dish but the carbonara was way better. Still miss it now.

Depends if you're allergic to tomato! The 'spoons risotto was so nice but they stopped that too :(

Redavocadoes · 22/08/2023 19:03

M&S used to do a really lovely Belgian chocolate oat cluster cereal. They discontinued it last year and brought out a new recipe which is completely inferior. It still hurts.

amusedbush · 22/08/2023 19:04

Morrisons’ bakery section used to have doughnuts with an apple filling. They had the perfect texture and were covered in powdered sugar rather than crunchy. I miss them so much and the jam version just isn’t the same Sad

Daughtersandbristolian · 22/08/2023 19:04

@PinkFootstool omg I used to love the passionfruit one years ago I first got in France, I’ve only ever managed to get the 0% sugar one here which tastes nothing like it

Redavocadoes · 22/08/2023 19:05

And orange Viscount biscuits. They have been gone for many, many years but I still feel sad every time I see the mint ones.

We used to have the orange ones at Christmas as a kid, and now Christmas isn't the same.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 22/08/2023 19:06

I’ve never got over the loss of Start cereal it was my go to after a workout, nothing else comes close.

Blabla81 · 22/08/2023 19:06

They’ve discontinued my chocolate orange rice cakes too. I’m not taking it well. I’ve had 2 for breakfast every morning for years - my routine is thrown. I know it sounds ridiculous but I’m struggling so much now with breakfast. To add insult to injury, they’ve maintained a gap on the shelf where they belong. No label, just a dark, dark void. Which my soul has now also become.

saraclara · 22/08/2023 19:06

I don't know how many decades ago Pret ditched its tuna nicoise wraps, but I still haven't forgiven them.

witheringrowan · 22/08/2023 19:07

Pret Jambon Beurre - I don't think its been completely discontinued, but you can't reliably find it in every shop any more. Enraging.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 22/08/2023 19:07

Sprite with cucumber.

It was amazing, I got through colossal amounts of it, then one day it was just gone. As though it never existed at all.

Loveatortie · 22/08/2023 19:10

Aztec bars, topic and now dark chocolate bounty 😭

Waitwhat23 · 22/08/2023 19:13

2 things which I have never seen since. Both were limited edition/seasonal but still -

Aldi used to do a Wild Boar, cranberry and chestnut pate for several years. It was glorious and a Christmas staple in our house but I've not seen it for a couple of years.

In the early 2000's, Magnum did a '7 Deadly Sins' range and they were the best ever.

Thestruggler · 22/08/2023 19:14

Etenmanns Chocolate Cake and their apple pie. No one else i know seems to remember this brand though.

Beamur · 22/08/2023 19:17

Thanks for the Lincolnshire sausage tip!
I remember the prawn and egg roll too, it was delish..

I’m with you OP. cafe Nero changed the luxury hot chocolate/cafe Milano to vegan only and I haven’t got over it, I was devastated as I bought it loads, especially over autumn and winter and it was a lovely thick hot chocolate. I loved it and now it’s crap. They made it vegan to make it “more inclusive” but what about the dairy option? :(

godmum56 · 22/08/2023 19:20

Marks and Spencers beercan chicken <sobs>

I feel your pain (and it sounds delicious!) I’m still mourning coconut Feast ice-creams

They were lovely, as were Magnum Golds, also discontinued.

Bastards.
