Tesco is Discontinuing My Cereal

RhymesWithTangerine · 22/08/2023 15:24

Look, I know there are bigger problems, but damn, Tesco - it was delicious and my breakfasting heart is broken.

I kind of knew the writing was on the wall when it went up to £4 for 500g. It’s hard to prioritise granola during a cost of living crisis, but I was prepared to. Tesco has just wimped out.

AIBU to think supermarkets inflict untold suffering on their customers when they discontinue objectively delicious food?

I'm still mourning the loss of Coconut Carte Dor Ice Cream. I last had it in 2002

Ocado do! I may or may not have bought six bottles in one go a few weeks ago!!

Nope, not the lemon one. They stopped it at the same time as Waitrose.

Discontinued woes here include:

Cherry Garcia (yes i know you can buy it in tiny tubs in some cinemas but i want a massive pot at home on the sofa)

Black forest hot choc at Costa

A beloved F&F eau de toilet

If you’re near London, the Ben & Jerry’s shop near Tower Bridge sell Cherry Garcia, it’s my first stop when we visit London!

Wexone · 22/08/2023 19:24

I feel for you. I am still mourning the fact haggan dazz have discontinued selling strawberries and cream flavour ice cream here in the Republic of Ireland. you used to be able to get it before covid then it started getting harder to get. searched every supermarket. in the end mailed them and that's when they told me it was no longer for sale in Ireland. dunno why. I still look every time just in case. I dint like any chocolate etc falvour ice cream

I’ve never got over the loss of Start cereal it was my go to after a workout, nothing else comes close.

I used to eat it dry with a pint of milk watching TV.... No exercise here 😂😂

Eggsley · 22/08/2023 19:25

Tesco stopped making their potato triangles years ago. Nothing has ever come close. I even emailed Tesco, begging them to bring back the tiny triangles of bliss but they said that they wouldn't. I asked if they would bring them back just at Christmas in the large bags. Still no. If anyone reading this is one of the people who make these decisions at Tesco, I implore you to please, please bring them back.

ILookAtTheFloor · 22/08/2023 19:26

On another discontinued thread a poster kindly let me know that my beloved Seriously Strong Spreadable Chilli spread was still available at Ocado! It's minimum order £40 so I ordered 8 packs and some other random stuff so I could get some 😂check Ocado OP as they probably still have it.

Ditto New York wholemeal bagels.

Wexone · 22/08/2023 19:28

oh and another one which the hot chocolate coming above reminded me off. costa replacing their marshmallows to vegan ones. they are not the same. i loved hot chocolate there and the marshmallows would melt and be a lovely treat at the end of it. now they don't melt and taste of bubblegum why

We have similar tastes! Every year I hope the Black Forest hot chocolate will make a comeback. My DH says I just like the stuff nobody else does so it never lasts 😂

Ew those new marshmallows sound gross.

I used to make my own, a recipe similar to the one posted above - oil, boiling water, syrup mixed up, add oats. Bake but stir it every few mins so it toasts all over. Add dried fruit after so it doesn't burn. But toast any nuts and seeds you want in the mix.

I'm missing taramasalata. Not been able to find that gorgeous pink saltiness anywhere for ages. Asda used to do it in the summer.

Tesco and Sainsbury’s sell Taramasalata

Treat yourself ;)

Etenmanns Chocolate Cake and their apple pie. No one else i know seems to remember this brand though.

I used to see Etenmanns in NW London shops. Last time I found any was on Amazon when I was looking for something else. However it is a US company which might make it more difficult to find elsewhere.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 22/08/2023 19:30

Ready salted chipstix. Why? They do salt and vinegar I dont understand the problem!
The supermarkets are in on it too coz they only sell their own brand ones in s&v.

Blondebutnotlegally · 22/08/2023 19:30

Can't find Worcester sauce crisps ANYWHERE anymore (asda was the last place but they seem to have disappeared now).

And Golden Graham's cereal. Only place I can get it now is France 🙃

MangoBiscuit · 22/08/2023 19:31

Spoon granola is one of my few safe foods, and one of the few reasons I shop at Tesco. That and the Tesco's own bunnies crisps, which are very similar to pom bears, but a slightly nicer texture.

I've just found it on amazon's subscribe and save. Don't really want to be buying from Amazon more than I need to, but I refuse to use Ocado at all.

FleetwudMac · 22/08/2023 19:29

they are..even the staff at my local one agree with me. but no matter how many complaints costa won't change them
like they could have the option of either vegan or non vegan

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 22/08/2023 19:32

Black forest hot chocolate from Costa is addictive. Id love a recipe for it.

For the poster who mentioned Toast Toppers.

"" Bacon and mushroom Toast Toppers.

I microwaved 2 chopped up mushrooms and mixed them with a couple of heaped tablespoons of condensed mushroom soup and half a slice of chopped up ham and some black pepper.

Then put it under the grill on thick toast. It was delicious, very similar to the real thing. This does several portions. ""

MonumentalLentil · 22/08/2023 19:32

A very long time ago BHS used to sell cakes. I would go in at lunch time and buy their apple and cream puffs, they were addictive.
Sainsburys sold similar, years later. Anything similar was never any good.

@Laiste , @TippingTree I raved about it to the barista serving me a few years ago and he handed me a whole unopened bottle and told me he ordered too much. It made my whole Christmas 🤣 FYI its just black cherry syrup they use!

All I can say is: Vesta Chow Mein with Crispy Noodles (circa 1974).

I’m considering organising a Spoon buying collective, so we can just stash the last of it. I’m just a bit worried about security implications - in case a rival gang hears about it.

Seabrook do Worcester sauce flavour crisps, I bought some about a month ago in Home Bargains.

TheMousePipes · 22/08/2023 19:41

The people that make the brownies at Gloucester/Tebay services have been making me sad for ages.
Once upon a time I had a Turkish delight brownie on my way to Devon, and it was a fucking joy to behold. NEVER seen one since. I check every time.
Bastards.

DieSchottin93 · 22/08/2023 19:41

They used to do a really nice Greek style coconut yoghurt but that got discontinued a couple of years ago 😕 And apparently they're also discontinuing the cans of own brand diet cola, my mum is not impressed!
