Tesco is Discontinuing My Cereal

Look, I know there are bigger problems, but damn, Tesco - it was delicious and my breakfasting heart is broken.

I kind of knew the writing was on the wall when it went up to £4 for 500g. It’s hard to prioritise granola during a cost of living crisis, but I was prepared to. Tesco has just wimped out.

AIBU to think supermarkets inflict untold suffering on their customers when they discontinue objectively delicious food?

Discontinued woes here include:

Cherry Garcia (yes i know you can buy it in tiny tubs in some cinemas but i want a massive pot at home on the sofa)

Black forest hot choc at Costa

A beloved F&F eau de toilet

Merapi · 22/08/2023 18:32

M&S used to do a wonderful prawn, egg and mayo seeded roll, and I used to have one at least once a week for my lunch at work.

Discontinued years ago and I still yearn for it.

stillalongwaytogo · 22/08/2023 18:33

I agree with making your own, nuts and seeds etc are quite expensive so won't be cheap but will be cheaper than the bought versions and you can make it exactly how you like it and up the ratio of your fave bits

I feel your pain (and it sounds delicious!) I’m still mourning coconut Feast ice-creams

YEEESSSSSSSS!!!!! Those were amazing.

We might have similar palettes @BellaJuno and under other circumstances I would recommend the Spoon cereal which has a coconut vibe to its cinnamony pecanness.

But you might be opening yourself to heartbreak at this stage, so maybe don’t.

Its the SPOON granola - the cinnamon and pecan one.

if there are any lawyers on the thread, maybe I have a claim in damages? Distress?

Absolutely ridiculous, cinnamon is the spice of the devil. Well done Tesco for getting rid of this poison.

Tesco in my area has stopped selling:
• Proper Nutty smunchy peanut butter, which was the peacekeeper in my household (DP basically wants whole peanuts, I want smooth)
• their version of Fox jam & cream biscuits
• their version of those sachet caffe lattes, which we liked for work & travel
Among many other things...

Oh, I thought they just didn't sell Cherry Garcia here in England! Love that flavour.

And M&S tzatziki circa 2013. With dill. It was the bomb. Even people who don’t like dill loved it.

I think M&S were just ahead of their time with that recipe.

Tesco has no such excuse - they know we love pecans and cinnamon.

We really don’t. Pecan yes, cinnamon noooooooooo 🤢

LlamasSitOnPyjamas · 22/08/2023 18:41

Everywhere seems to have stopped selling my favourite condiment Heinz Baconnaise. I am getting tempted by the excessively pricey bottles on Amazon.
Also to the pp who wanted taramasalata Tescos always have it.

@evtheria I had to stop my husband buying the Tesco version Jammy dodger creams for our daughter because I became so addicted to them. Made him go back to buying ordinary Jammy dodgers which I wouldn’t get out of bed for no matter what the disaster. The cream sandwich ones are like crack cocaine to me 😬

Tesco pissed me right off when they stopped doing their vegetarian Lincolnshire sausages. They were the best. Then I found Cauldron's version of them but they then pissed me off by changing their recipe into a sloppy mush!

They also did a Lancashire cheese, celery and apple with mayo. God that was good, long gone.

ProseccoandPizza · 22/08/2023 18:42

It’s been close to a decade since M&S discontinued my favourite ever Blackforest gateau cookies. I’m still bereft. I still check the biscuit section every time.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/08/2023 18:45

Tesco discontinued their smoked hummus, several years ago, and I am still peeved about it. Waitrose now do it, but that means it is a very occasional treat, rather than a lunch staple for me. I feel your pain, @RhymesWithTangerine.

Thestruggler · 22/08/2023 18:46

I'm still not over the demise of Secret chocolate bars.

TenOhSeven · 22/08/2023 18:49

Aw man, just when I think I'm over Mississippi mud pie yoghurt, threads like this come along to remind me that I am not. I'll never forgive you M&S!

I remember that too! That was my fallback if they had sold out of the prawn rolls.

Allywill · 22/08/2023 18:53

you need a supermarket with better customer service. booths stopped selling my favourite pie on the deli counter. staff said it was discontinued. i wrote to the company that makes them (it was lockdown i had time on my hands) who told me it wasn’t discontinued and i could buy a box of them direct from them. i wrote to booths to say they had given me false information and i would be going elsewhere for my pie fix in future. they wrote back, apologised and brought back the pie! i now feel i have to buy one every time i go in the supermarket though.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/08/2023 18:54

I forgot - Fragonard have sneakily discontinued my favourite perfume - Marché aux Fleurs. If they’d warned me, I could have stocked up. 😪

UrsulaBelle · 22/08/2023 18:54

Discovery enchilada sauce in a jar from about 15 years ago. Amazing stuff. I make my own now but something is missing, (possibly MSG 😉) and it’s not the same.

Crunchymum · 22/08/2023 18:54

I post these on all discontinued threads

M&S chicken escalopes
M&S bang bang dip
Foxs classic bars (although I heard a rumour they can be found in B&M)

And non food Vaseline Cotton Fresh deodorant. This was over a decade ago and I've never found a deodorant that comes close.

BarelyLiterate · 22/08/2023 18:55

I’m still grieving Phileas Fogg’s Mignons Morceaux.

And Tesco’s spicy beef & jalapeño pasta bake. Too hot for most people, which I assume is why it was discontinued, but it really was seriously yummy.

Callipygion · 22/08/2023 18:56

I’m still in mourning for Safeway’s fresh cream Belgian buns, which had a dollop of lemon curd in the middle of lashings of the cream. I could cry about them really, they were to die for.

Cauliflowersfloofy · 22/08/2023 18:56

I love that granola too dammit, and Waitrose is too far away! And also I don't make the trip to Waitrose as often any more because they have discontinued the lovely French pistachio cream pudding things they used to do and were totally worth the 20 mile round trip 😭.
