Tesco is Discontinuing My Cereal

Look, I know there are bigger problems, but damn, Tesco - it was delicious and my breakfasting heart is broken.

I kind of knew the writing was on the wall when it went up to £4 for 500g. It’s hard to prioritise granola during a cost of living crisis, but I was prepared to. Tesco has just wimped out.

AIBU to think supermarkets inflict untold suffering on their customers when they discontinue objectively delicious food?

M&S used to do a wonderful prawn, egg and mayo seeded roll, and I used to have one at least once a week for my lunch at work.

Discontinued years ago and I still yearn for it.

Yes! Me too. It used to be my Friday lunch & it was just amazing.

I sometimes still pop in to M&S if I'm passing to see if they've started doing anything similar. But no 😢.

Look up goody granola

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 22/08/2023 19:53

I often wish for Kellogg’s Start, M&S paprika crisps and ready salted chipsticks!

hilariousnamehere · 22/08/2023 19:54

@PinkFootstool pissweasels you're right! I ordered some in June when I couldn't find it in Waitrose and now it's unavailable 😭 on board for a petition 😂

mirandasma · 22/08/2023 19:54

I make my own from scratch.
You can put in all the things you like and all the things that are good for you. Recipes can be found online. Mine is so much better than anything I've bought and it works out cheaper, well cheaper than 500g from the health food shop anyway.

Igneococcus · 22/08/2023 19:57

I've just found it on amazon's subscribe and save. Don't really want to be buying from Amazon more than I need to, but I refuse to use Ocado at all.

You can also buy it directly from Spoon, also with a subscription.
I started buying Lizi's granola and muesli directly from Lizi's when Tesco stopped selling it in our branch. it's back now but you can get actually many more flavours directly from Lizi's than the two basic ones that my rural Scotland Tesco stocks. Our Tesco also only sells one type of Spoon granola.

Etenmanns Chocolate Cake and their apple pie. No one else i know seems to remember this brand though.

I remember their chocolate fudge cake and maybe a cinnamon or pecan cake as well.

I’m considering organising a Spoon buying collective, so we can just stash the last of it. I’m just a bit worried about security implications - in case a rival gang hears about it.

I just looked it up - it’s not a specific tesco brand. But it looks like it’s out of stock on the spoon website. Might be worth speaking to them, as you can buy cases direct from them too, rather than having to use Amazon. I wonder if they’re just waiting on another production run, or if Spoon themselves have discontinued it?

Ohyousillydivvy · 22/08/2023 20:08

My favourite is the Lidl super nutty granola, I'd be heart broken if they stopped making this. I have it for breakfast as well as using it for baking esp banana bread.

Spinninggyro · 22/08/2023 20:09

Both of our local coops have stopped stocking their maple and pecan granola, I really miss it…

I feel you. Still mourning the loss of egg and tomato on rye from Pret. It must be 20 years now, but I'm not over it. Never will be.

Pret's chicken bloomer sandwich from about the same time!

Runnersandtoms · 22/08/2023 20:09

I'm so cross that both Iceland and Aldi have stopped doing the salt and vinegar battered gish goujons my whole family like better than normal battered fish.

I feel your cereal pain.

Fixyourself · 22/08/2023 20:11

Potato triangle crisps for me...

Caslo · 22/08/2023 20:12

I'm still terribly upset by the loss of two cereals - Start and Ricicles. Things just haven't been the same since

Eggsley · 22/08/2023 20:13

@Fixyourself thank goodness I'm not the only one, they were SO good!

GoodOnPaper · 22/08/2023 20:13

Lizi's do a Maple and Pecan Granola, I think it's probably more expensive...got tho!

17caterpillars1mouse · 22/08/2023 20:14

Bottlegreen elderflower sorbet

ladygindiva · 22/08/2023 20:15

Oh thank fuck I thought it was the strawberry granola

Bluetrews25 · 22/08/2023 20:19

KnackeredAF · 22/08/2023 19:29

Tesco and Sainsbury’s sell Taramasalata

Treat yourself ;)

Oooh thanks, I'll have a look

Ladylalaboo1 · 22/08/2023 20:20

Hate when this happens. For years my absolute ultimate favourite food was 'Amy's kitchen gluten free lentil soup' sounds so boring but I swear I was obsessed i dreamed of it. Tesco's did it but then it went then sainsburys did it for awhile. I would get it when I was pregnant in 2020 as I had such bad morning sickness this was the only thing I could eat. Then it disappeared. I googled it and they were an American company who struggled during covid and just couldn't carry on selling internationally. So upsetting. I loved it that much for my birthday this year my husband for one of my presents ordered 3 cans from I assume America and paid an extortionate amount for shipping so I could have a few. Incredible. I feel your pain!

Doyoureallyhavetoask · 22/08/2023 20:29

Sara Lee Pecan Danish. So delicious!

I'm lactose intolerant now though, so even if it did come back I couldn't have itAngry

TrickorTreacle · 22/08/2023 20:29

Another thing I missed - Pyramint! Showing my age a bit here.

BBno4 · 22/08/2023 20:32

You can get Vesta chow mein at Savers.

Asda used to do a salt and black pepper loaf as well as baguettes. You could smell them coming up the aisle. They wouldn't make it to the car untouched.

I think they attracted flies , which may be why they got rid of it. But I loved it so.

Quorn veggie hotdogs, basically all vegetarian skinny hotdogs. They have gone. Online lie.

Fanta fruit twist from 2008. They changed it

Valerie23 · 22/08/2023 20:44

Safeways in the 1980s used to sell Red Leicester with Walnuts. I ate a bit every day for years until I moved away and then when I visited one before it closed down they no longer sold it.

Bejam before it was Iceland used to sell a tub of yellow coloured vanilla ice cream with tiny pieces of chocolate that was fantastic.

Tesco used to sell a Sasparilla squash, I haven't seen that in a long while.

M&S used to sell chocolate shortbread in a packet the same as chocolate digestives. They are long gone.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 22/08/2023 21:00

Years ago Asda used to have a lovely cherry cheesecake. I was gutted when that disappeared. I still look for it occasionally. I loved it.

They also recently changed their chicken and chorizo risotto for chicken and mushroom - which I could get anywhere if I didn't loathe mushrooms. Twats!
