Is there a second thread? Can't find one anywhere. I am also overly invested and need to know the outcome and marvel at the detective work of MN's.

They're not really ' admin ' people tbh.

What do you mean? They did they did due diligence!

I wasn't going to comment on the English because it's probable it's not Iuliias first language so I don't have an issue with that. But the problem is I really rather suspect it's him not her that's written it cos of all the Freetwat phrases which I'm not convinced she's into in the same way (not had all those name changes for starters) and because if she wrote it, it'd be in her name not his. Plus with a newborn baby and her hair falling out and Clive to look after I'm not convinced she has the time.

I do really wonder what she sees in him mind.

I do feel mean commenting on the English, as it most likely isn’t Iulia’s mother tongue. But it strikes me as someone who genuinely has English as a second language rather than faking it. I get the feeling that she is writing it but he is giving her key phrases to put in.

Maybe only £5k as an initial target too.

I think that £5k is on the optimistic side.

I have to say I'm amused that it's taken four days since Clive talked to the press to set up the fundraiser.

I'm wondering if that's the pace that Clive works at admin tbh. Tough life being in Grenada with a newborn and a wife with her hair falling out you see.

Especially when there is no hair on your head to fall out 😅

SuperSue77 · 16/08/2023 18:36

OMG - the GoFundMe amount has increased to £15k!!! I reckon Clive is following this thread on MN - might be how he thought of the idea to do a GoFundMe (would explain the delay between the news article and the GFM page) - and someone made the comment that they thought £5k was low, so he thought, bugger it, I’ll triple that! They’ve had £110 so far

SuperSue77 · 16/08/2023 18:44

The page has also been updated to include:

Even now 2 weeks later after providing a DNA test we are still not given any travel documents for our baby

Someone commented on here how the DNA test hadn’t got a mention. So they’ve read that and updated it.

I would not at all be surprised if Hippy and Dippy were on Mumsnet. I must admit when I first read your comment, I thought you meant people had actually donated £15k, not that he had changed the target 😂 my mind was blown by the thought of £15k worth of muppets donating to them.

PonyPatter44 · 16/08/2023 18:58

I think they might well be reading this thread. I did wonder if the "friend " on the other thread was actually Clive in a laydeez wig.

Musicalsfan · 16/08/2023 18:59

What’s the lowest amount you can donate on GoFundMe? I found 4 pennies and a 2p on the pavement outside a church yesterday - I’m happy to give that.

isitshe · 16/08/2023 18:59

😮at the £15,000 goal!!!!!
Cheeky effers!

'guess the government's dont think they should follow laws anymore'

I don't think they considered the law at all when making their extremely ill-judged and incredibly entitled and selfish voyage. What makes them think they're above the law?! It's precisely because the respective govts are rightly applying law that they're whinging.

Also, I'll usually sympathise with any mum with a newborn but:
Mum is in tears everyday hair falling out and struggles to sleep at night which is traumatic when breastfeeding as we want the very best for our new baby Louisa whom is only 3 months young

When I had a breastfed 3-month-old I wasn't getting much sleep, had recurrent mastitis, which meant lots of tears, and my hair was coming out in handfuls. Most of that is par-for-the-course with a newborn baby.

Why?

Would you not rather give that to the church fund?

I betcha Clive or Iullia has been reading! That would explain the total tone deafness!

I am also amused that no one has thrown them a couple of quid all day despite.

What do they actually need £15k for in this situation?

And it was already established that a birth certificate can take up to a month to issue even in ideal situations.

And then passports often take time too.

Have we established which country's passport they are applying for or why Louisa would qualify for a British jus soli citizenship when she was born abroad yet?!

Can the spies establish this for us please?

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 16/08/2023 19:27

This is priceless!

RedToothBrush · 16/08/2023 19:29

Bring Louisa back home

We have been left stranded by the British government in Grenada a sovereign country

Even now 2 weeks later after providing a DNA test we are still not given any travel documents for our baby

Louisa has never met her 8 year old sister in the UK and the passport office in the UK Refuse to give our elizabeth 8 year old her renewal passport

We are asking for help to pay for legal funding accomodation and food

Our FAMILY is Broken

My Daughter is 8 years old, all she wants is her Mum back home and to be able to hold her baby sister for the first time

What are we supposed to do when your own country abandons you

We are not looking for sympathy only some support from loving people please

Mum is in tears everyday hair falling out and struggles to sleep at night which is traumatic when breastfeeding as we want the very best for our new baby Louisa whom is only 3 months young
A baby is innocent and we are being victimized for wanting a freebirth

I don't wish this feeling on any Mum

We have jumped through all their hoop's but to no avail it's heart wrenching to think this could happen to anyone of us

We have been treated like criminals the immigration and UK high commission
Have abandoned us it's our worst nightmare

Someone has to help surely

We have jumped through all their hoop's

How can a country abandon it's Sovereign people

How can people do this to people their own and a Mum I can't come to begin to understand

Is there any hope for any one of us friends or family could be in the same situation especially being told that a baby is entitled to a passport with right of soil Latin ( jus soli) guess the government's dont think they should follow laws anymore

We was told before we left the UK of our natural rights we researched and did our own due diligence but have been let down by the system

We pray that we will receive justice and remedy before it goes on any further

Please help anyway possible and thank you with love to all the people that care

The rewrite is interesting. Less emotional. And this time reads even more like it's written by Clive (there's a surprise!).

The eight year old is no longer distressed. Wouldn't want to look like bad parents now would we?

RedToothBrush · 16/08/2023 19:38

So they've provided a DNA test. It doesn't actually say they've got the results though. It wouldnt surprise me if they've just done the test and that's it.

Note that the rewrite also excludes the part about being enslaved, which was mentioned in PPs earlier today!

RedToothBrush · 16/08/2023 19:57

He also doesn't mention why they've been pratting about on Saint Lucia and then went to Grenada.

I'm not sure 'help I'm stranded on a tropical island' is quite the sell Clive thinks it is, especially when he mentioned they abandoned their elder daughter at home to allow Iullia to selfishly have a freebirth.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 16/08/2023 20:21

This has got scam written all over it. Is there any proof these people are even where they say they are? The Go Fund Me spiel reads like it was written after someone read the threads on Mumsnet and cobbled together what people would expect to read. Summer holiday windup perhaps.

I agree. And I distrust that it's real except for the fact someone has gone to the trouble to put money in.

OMFG. I was going to leave the other thread and let this die a death but hats off to Clive or the MNetter who is on the wind up and wrote that, cos I'm going to have to bite.

I am not linking to it but the blurb is HILARIOUS.

Here we go:

Bring Louisa back home

Louisa has never met her 8 year old sister in the UK and the passport office in the UK Refuse to give our 8 year old her renewal passport

Our FAMILY is Broken

My Daughter is 8 years old and so distraught and cannot believe this Government would enslave us like they have done these Caribbean islands it's Sureal

What are we supposed to do when your country abandon your family
It is traumatic for us all and I have no faith in the system anymore

I am in tears everyday hair falling out and struggle to sleep at night which is traumatic when breastfeeding as I want the very best for my new baby Louisa whom is only 3 months young how could this happen in 2023

I thought they forgot to renew their 8 year olds passport? Now the government are 'refusing to renew it'. Hmmm. Yes ok. I'm sensing a porkie there for sob value. Why would the UK government refuse to renew their daughters passport? What's the problem? (Too many different names of parents, not being patient enough to wait for one, letting the old passport expire so you are eligible for a renewal and have to apply for a new one, concerns over the wellbeing of a child being removed from the country by feckless parents? Come on explain what the issue is, cos they don't just refuse to renew for no reason).

The elder daughter is distraught apparently. Well that's news to the MNetter who claimed to know the family. So either they were a troll, the couple are lying or the daughter really is distraught.

Noting the language about how the couple are 'enslaved' ( bit racist that one), comments about sovereign people, right of soil and the government not following laws and natural rights. That really is smelling of Freeman of the land or a Sovereign Citizen nutter and certainly doesn't seem to understand actual law isn't it? Plea for justice? Fucking hell the state of that.

Not quite understanding why the right of soil for a BRITISH passport application is relevant to a birth in a foreign country either. Maybe someone here on MN can explain the logic to me? Pretty please?

Or did they try and get a Saint Lucian passport, and were rejected and then thought they'd try it on for a Grenadian one but that didn't work either and now forced to accept a shitty British passport instead and are now somehow blaming the UK government for not recognising a British citizen born on foreign sea for 'a right of soil' passport application. Really not following that part of the blurb (this has to be a MNetter on the wind up doesn't it? Surely? Please tell me this is a prankster at this point because the alternative explanation actually hurts my head)

Then we have the point about being victimised for wanting a freebirth. Well yes, that will generally cause issues for good reason. It's fucking dangerous and irresponsible. Diddums. Maybe that's why the UK government might refuse to allow the other child to leave the country.

Total self absorption and lack of self awareness - total lala land about why there may be process to stop trafficking or obtaining passports/ citizenship by deception. Tone deaf false equivalence with slavery by a white dude without thought as to how it might be offensive.

Then talk about jumping through all the hoops. Well no, you didn't. By your own admission.

Then they say they have been treated like criminals and abandoned. I thought Clive said they were being phoned every day by the commission to see how the application was progressing? I'm not sure criminals get that attention and it's hardly being abandoned if they are in regular contact like that. That's clearly giving a shit not abandoning.

Not being able to understand 'how a government could do this to their own and to a mum' is just funny. The government didnt do shit. It was the two wallies who didn't go to a hospital which screwed up getting a birth certificate, never mind the time it takes for it to be issued and to get a passport and that's forgetting the border hoping that managed that all by themselves.

Someone has to help? No you just need to do your fucking paperwork properly. What are you expecting someone to do. Wave a magic wand to get that DNA test you don't mention quicker from the lab? The UK government to issue a Saint Lucian birth certificate quicker?!

Anyone of your friends and family could be in this situation? Na. Just fuckwittery reckless pricks who attempt to freebirth abroad. Not that hard to avoid that problem really.

But the icing on the cake is saying they researched and did due diligence. Oh that one is utterly priceless.

Fundraiser is set up by him, but worded as if it's her who has written it - which I also don't buy. They've clearly gone for a sob story of the poor mum and daughter. That's Clive who has nothing stopping him going home to his distraught 8 year old in case you've forgotten at this point.

It's fascinating to see how it is framed in the newspapers and the difference with the fundraiser.

Obviously it's got lots of support from friends and family. Well no actually it hasn't. Oh no. Poor Clive and Iullia. I wonder if our friend on the other thread has chucked in a tenner.

Thanks for the lols Clive you grifter.

Or if it's a MNetter who has set this up for a laugh, I really take my hat off to you. That novel should be a cracker. This is pure gold and you are a comedy genius.

I can't sleep again and that's blurb has truly made me chuckle. Thank you Clive and Iullia.

oh god thank you for this @RedToothBrush 😂

Those poor Sovereign Citizens. The retelling of this tale practically makes it sound as if the UK government wrenched them away from their wailing 8 yr old and has forced them to live on their private rented yacht for the last 6 months.

Won't SOMEONE think of the CHILDREN and ALSO THE HAIR LOSS.

PriamFarrl · 16/08/2023 20:49

Are they really there is a good question?

My gut reaction is that this is what it seems. They really are there, they honestly didn’t think it through.

RedToothBrush · 16/08/2023 22:25

Seeing as Clive is doing something of a rarity and taking advice I propose he rewrite his funder.

We are broken. We stuffed up and are now in a bit of a mess.

We vastly underestimated what freebirth abroad would involve in terms of paperwork. The Consulate are being supportive but are limited in what they can do to speed the process up.

Meanwhile what we thought would be a short trip in paradise has turned into a nightmare and we need support.

We made a huge mistake.

But the one thing this pair won't do is admit it was a mess of their own making and they just need to be patient and sort it out as and when the authorities clear their paperwork.

Spouting freeman bollocks won't help their cause. I'd go on a deliberate go slow if someone kicked off like that.

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 16/08/2023 22:26

Also feeling overly-invested in this sorry saga, and waiting for updates/ more info - even more explanations from the MNer who claims to know this couple personally would be fascinating.
I don't usually wish that the DM would pick up on a story on here and investigate it properly. Maybe what it actually needs is someone like James from https://justpikachoo.com/ to look into it more (and as they're now advertising a crowd-funder they're eligible for his er services).

As an aside, I note that flights from Grenada to Heathrow/Gatwick are currently available at less than £500 per person, so don't understand why Clive claims tickets now cost many thousands. Perhaps he could come on here and tell us?

I actually think I could be persuaded to donate based on this blurb. It’s honest, factual, and makes you feel sorry for them. Unlike the bs sob story they have actually written.

MustardChair · 17/08/2023 07:02

Personally I don't understand why they bleat on about the cost of a ticket. You'd have bought returns surely? Maybe not for the baby that had not yet been born, but for the adults.

If everything happened exactly as they said it happened- then they are barely competent functioning adults.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 17/08/2023 07:26

I wonder if the 8 year old's passport hasn't been renewed for her own protection? I mean she's probably better off away from this pair of nutters.

What about the Russian mother's own immigration status in the UK? That's clearly got something to do with the DNA test requirement for a UK passport.

Oh I don't know. When I first read this tale of woe my first thought was they had brought it all on themselves and were the stupidest people I'd ever heard of. My view hasn't changed.
