to shop in M&S kids? Tried on this playsuit in size 13-14 years, so not even the biggest size, and I've ordered it online for £20. Along with a stretch blue dress in the sale for £4.50.

I think with the right shoes and accessories, so much of the clothes for teens can be fine, especially for holidays.

Also, a little bit wtf. I don't think Zara Kids works quite the same size/age ratio......

Snap! Very average height and build, but with tiny feet (size 2) and hands. I must have saved a fortune in shoes over the years.

You are lucky! I have wide feet {EE fitting} and high arches , true size 6 but need a size 7 to accommodate the width- I've had these sized feet since turning 15.

My friend had size 4 feet. In sales, it's always the size6'S & 7's that get snapped up.

Serendipitoushedgehog · 12/08/2023 13:35

Surely at 5’8” Id be too tall, though?

Tessisme · 12/08/2023 13:35

I am very jealous! Even at 56 I often see clothes I like, then think 'Gah, that's a child's dress/tunic/cardigan.' Unfortunately I am large framed and a size 14, so I doubt even an age 15-16 would fit. Even when I was younger and much slimmer I'm pretty sure my wide hips wouldn't have wriggled in. A woman I know is about mid 70s and really petite and youthful. She told me she buys from the children's department - nothing childish in appearance, but jeans and plain tops and knitwear. She always looks fabulous.

Motherland2624 · 12/08/2023 13:41

New look teen range fits lovely

KirstenBlest · 12/08/2023 13:41

@oakleaffy , they're not VAST, but the odd thing does seem to be. I have some pull on trousers in a size 6 and size 10, the 10 is a different style but doesn't seem much bigger, the 6's feel more like an 8.
The cargos might have been deliberately oversized - the ones in primark looked huge too.

I shouldn't be fitting into a 6, but I can in H&M and M&S

ClaraBourne · 12/08/2023 13:46

I wear age 16 school PE joggers from Tu! They are the best I have bought, thick jersey with a terry lining. I bought some others and they were fleece linin but still great for cooler weather. I'm a size 14, in my 50s......

Perhaps for the full length trousers, but there's other stuff

Slightly off topic but I have same figure, with giant boobs. Buying clothes - especially jeans - that fit my snake hips, little bum and apple tummy is a nightmare!

28GG boobs here. I feel your pain!!

Ilikeviognier · 12/08/2023 14:02

I do this sometimes if I can make it work. Im 5ft 2 and a Uk 6. Depends very much on style though. I recently bought some girls age 12-13 leggings on tikiboo instead of the XXS size and got them at half the price of the woman’s size.

LadyKenya · 12/08/2023 14:05

I have saved so much money over the years buying clothes this way. I still have a couple of dresses from the only one collection from BHS, which are still going strong years later!

IveHadItUpToHere · 12/08/2023 14:05

It's funny, I buy some stuff for DH from the kids' section because I realised teen DS and him are roughly the same size. But I never thought to look in the kids section for myself. I'm off to do that now. Thanks OP.

AInightingale · 12/08/2023 14:08

Any woman with feet, below size 5.5 I think it is, is lucky, they will save 20% on trainers, boots etc by buying from the girls' junior ranges.

I figured out a few years ago to look for "age 15" trousers.

This is because I have CURVES. As in, a waist. I buy teen clothes for adjustable waist to accommodate a waist much smaller than my hips.

adult Women's clothes are for fat no-curves people.

Brilliant idea, thank you! Women's clothes are often useless for me.

Fundays12 · 12/08/2023 14:22

I am a size 10 and never thought to do this. Thanks for the information I will have a look next time I am in.

Islandofmisadventure · 12/08/2023 14:23

Do teen clothes have an adjustable waist?! My children aren’t at this age yet and I just assumed adjustable waists would stop before teen sizes. This is a revelation if so!!

I also have a small waist and I’ve had to return some lovely clothes because of the gaping at the back.

Jamtartforme · 12/08/2023 14:25

Graasspp · 12/08/2023 08:53

You might be surprised

This for eg is 100% cotton £16

I really like that, but I’m tall - has anyone tried it on that could tell me whether the sleeves would be long enough please?

UnctuousUnicorns · 12/08/2023 14:35

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/08/2023 09:27

Perhaps I'm shrinking. Grin I was in a school recently and surprised how many of them were taller than me!

In 1981, I was the tallest kid in my final year of primary school. I was 5' 1". Seems incredible to think of it now! 😅

VimtoVimto · 12/08/2023 14:49

I’ve just had a look at M&S children’s trainers and the styles are similar to the adult ones but cheaper.

My dad used to stock up on age 15-16 short sleeved school shirts. They fitted him well and were easy care.

snowballsinhell · 12/08/2023 14:53

I wear Next age 13 girls knickers

Wash up brilliantly too

Justleaveitblankthen · 12/08/2023 14:54

Thanks for the tip 🤓

Yep M&S are waaay off on sizes now.
Got a size 6 leather look skirt as a gift and you could pull it down to my ankles, it was ridiculous and clearly built for the average size 10-12.

To prove this to myself, nabbed a really cool pair of cream jeans in the River Island sale yesterday (down to £15 from £45)

Size 8, Regular length (but I am around 5'0) fit me like a glove. Definitely wouldn't have been able to fasten a size 6.

M&S do flattery sizes. Not true sizes.

KirstenBlest · 12/08/2023 14:54

@Islandofmisadventure , the jeans usually have an elastic tape that goes through the waistband that you can adjust using buttons. I've seen it in boy's jeans and trousers, age about 13 or so. Not checked girl's ones.

RoseMartha · 12/08/2023 14:58

I buy kids stuff if I like it and always have done. I also sometimes wear my teens cast offs.

Downside03 · 12/08/2023 20:15

I also used to wear DS clothes he grew out of such as hoodies. He was really annoyed as someone saw me in one and asked why is your Mum wearing your hoodie?

I am a 34 inch @Graasspp I hate things even a little tight.
