to shop in M&S kids? Tried on this playsuit in size 13-14 years, so not even the biggest size, and I've ordered it online for £20. Along with a stretch blue dress in the sale for £4.50.

I think with the right shoes and accessories, so much of the clothes for teens can be fine, especially for holidays.

Also, a little bit wtf. I don't think Zara Kids works quite the same size/age ratio......

Been raiding the tkmaxx kids clothes for years 😅

Downside03 · 12/08/2023 09:51

Have done this many times plus my feet are a size 4 so have bought children’s shoes. Unfortunately post menopause my bra cup size has gone up from a B to a D, I can still fit in jeans I owned pre menopause though a bit snug. The way the fat moved round my body post meno was unexpected.

Toomuchrubbishonnetflix · 12/08/2023 09:55

I have been introduced to Brandy Melville by my teens and it’s great - I’ve got loads of really nice stuff from there and it fits me perfectly and is really well priced (steering clear of the tiny vest tops though!)

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 12/08/2023 09:56

pre children I couldn’t get adult clothes to fit, however it meant pretty much all my skirts /shorts were too short.

Fightwithmyface · 12/08/2023 09:58

It’s a great idea op. I’ve noticed that kids sizes are getting huge as finding clothes for my 5’10”, stick thin, ds14 is almost impossible.
Never considered this could be a positive!

Thing is a lot of the clothes look like kids clothes. They scale up the stuff a 10 year old would wear. My eldest DSC wouldn't wear anything like that and she's in the age bracket! We always end up looking at adult clothes.

As a short slim mother of a preschool daughter I find the opposite. I’m well able to find adult-looking clothes for myself in the kids sections of H+M, M+S etc. I find it trickier in the same shops to find the sort of clothes I want my three year old daughter to wear - so much of the stuff is very old for its age and the colours are muted etc. The nice bright kiddie-looking stuff sells out much quicker IME. Don’t even get me started on buying clothes for my toddler son. You have to work so hard to find nice colourful things unless you have an extreme fondness for dinosaurs or sharks, which me and my husband don’t and nor does our son. Conversely I often buy my own basics in the boys sections too - M+S age 13 boys thermals have seen me through several winters!

TheKeatingFive · 12/08/2023 10:03

I've never found the clothes to be suitable, but I often get shoes.

FAOD?

For Avoidance of Doubt. I think!

WeAreBorg · 12/08/2023 10:07

I used to do this but I just want to buy cashmere jumpers and slacks these days. May reinvestigate PJs however.

Dibbydoos · 12/08/2023 10:15

I used to buy teenager clothes until I was in my late 20's and kids shoes but I needed 172cm (15-16) because I'm tall. I also bought kids shoes (size 5)

I think there's def value in checking out teen clothes they can be cheaper too!

God I'd love we to be able to do tgat again, but my feet grew during pregnancy and now my body is a diff shape. Even as a size 10 I can't get into that size anymore :(

Purpleavocado · 12/08/2023 10:15

Do we know how the sizing works? I'm between an 8 and 10 and 5'3 - there is a long sleeved ribbed dress that looks nice. I'd probably get it in a 10 in adult size

KimberleyClark · 12/08/2023 10:15

I used to buy from the kids section when I was in my 20s, which was back in the 80s. So I must have been really tiny. I am losing weight but I’ll never be that small again, and I wouldn’t want to be. Not now I’m in my 60s.

hellsbells99 · 12/08/2023 10:22

My mum is tiny, both height and frame, and I have been ordering her clothes from Next kids for years ……every since she had a couple of maxi summer skirts that my daughters had grown out of.

I'm a D too, but 32 inch back

Probably try a couple and send back. Hit and miss, but shorts my dd tried on 12-13 looked like a ladies 12 at least.

I will try and report back!

Mirabai · 12/08/2023 10:34

I don’t wear M&S clothes but I might try the kids’ range, thanks. I do buy their underwear though. I just bought some new size 8 knickers to find they’ve increased in size compared to my previous pairs of the same cut - I’d say they’re a 10-12.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 12/08/2023 10:34

I used to do this when I was 8 stone and 5ft 5.

I did have to be careful with shirts though as have always been big busted.

It’s definitely worth trying to save a few quid.

willWillSmithsmith · 12/08/2023 10:41

I will definitely take this suggestion on board (once I’ve reached my target weight, which should bring me back to a size ten).

megletthesecond · 12/08/2023 10:43

I've got age 13 Nike kids stuff my dc's have outgrown. Never have to buy a hoodie again.

CapEBarra · 12/08/2023 10:47

Given that many 13-14 year olds are almost grown this shouldn’t come as a massive shock. Most of my DC’s teen friends are bigger than me and I’m 5’4”.

MargaretThursday · 12/08/2023 10:47

I'm a size 12/14 on my top. I have some age 15/16yo polo shirts which are, if anything a little big for me. Yes, they were clearly meant for school, but they're great for tennis.

Flimflambutterbeer · 12/08/2023 10:48

Good idea! Thank you!!

ilovesushi · 12/08/2023 10:50

I tried buying kids stuff when I was a size 10 but found the arms and legs too short. For the same reason I have to buy adult clothes for my skinny but tall 13 year old.
