to shop in M&S kids? Tried on this playsuit in size 13-14 years, so not even the biggest size, and I've ordered it online for £20. Along with a stretch blue dress in the sale for £4.50.

I think with the right shoes and accessories, so much of the clothes for teens can be fine, especially for holidays.

Also, a little bit wtf. I don't think Zara Kids works quite the same size/age ratio......

My friend told me to try this.
I've not tried M and S but have tried New look. Age 14-15 fits me at an average size 10, height ok too! 5'6.
Dresses for £5!

Mushroo · 12/08/2023 09:09

I can also recommend Zara / Mango kids. The coats and blazers especially have the right sleeve length for me (I’m only 5 ft 2).

I managed get a real leather jacket for £50 and it’s perfect

Flickersy · 12/08/2023 09:09

My male housemate used to do this, but he was about 5'5". He used to buy kids chinos and jeans, they don't look any different to adult ones.

Wouldn't work for me sadly. Too tall and too wide.

YukoandHiro · 12/08/2023 09:11

As a size 10 petite but with a body that has also birthed two children (ie, some hips not teen shape) I find clothes so difficult.

I've also really noticed that the average 8/10 is now way taller than it used to be. So where as I used to be able to buy jeans and wear them as turn ups, now I have no choice but to buy a petite fit (more expensive)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/08/2023 09:12

Have you seen some teenage girls nowadays?! They tower over me. 5'8" used to be the tall ones, now you get quite a few girls who are 5'10" or 11".

I have bought children's clothes (and Toms — they used to have a better sole than the adult ones) before. I just have to be a bit careful what they're like over the bust.

golddustwomen · 12/08/2023 09:12

My best friends buys teen clothes and always looks bloody amazing! Some of the festival/boohoo chic type stuff she has from new look is lovely.

As it stands I'm way too fat but I do save £££ on kids size trainers Grin

polkadotdalmation · 12/08/2023 09:13

As I'm also short and size 8/10 I've shopped in kids sizes for my entire life! Can't believe this hasn't occurred to other small people.

There were a fair few of us tall teens in the 90s too. I'm 5'11" and there were two girls a bit taller than me too, that I can remember. There must have been a few only a bit shorter too. Height isn't a new thing!

DustyLee123 · 12/08/2023 09:16

My 18 yr old often buys from Next kids. The 16 year old size is too big for her and she’s a 6-8.

And kids clothes/shoes are cheaper due to tax.

So we all think we're teeny tiny little wisps of air...

Yes probably!

Well as long as I can get cheap kids clothes thats ok

And actually I quite like the look of some kids clothes, at least the leg lengths would fit me anyway!

Ionapussy · 12/08/2023 09:19

I'm a size 12/14 on top and can fit into M&S 15/16 year old tshirts.

painochocolate · 12/08/2023 09:20

Thing is a lot of the clothes look like kids clothes. They scale up the stuff a 10 year old would wear. My eldest DSC wouldn't wear anything like that and she's in the age bracket! We always end up looking at adult clothes.

queenofthewild · 12/08/2023 09:22

YABU. I've been doing this for years. Don't let other people know how to snap up the good stuff.

They do some lovely cashmere jumpers for "children" at Christmas.

EhrlicheFrau · 12/08/2023 09:24

As long as you/your teenage daughters (and maybe sons) don't object to you turning up somewhere in exactly the same outfit as a 12 year old, then sure it might work for some folk. I used to sometimes do this when I was younger/slightly slimmer, but wouldn't now as I find enough (often thrifted) clothes in adult ranges.

otherwayup · 12/08/2023 09:26

I've been doing this for years, next, M&S and Zara kids clothes all comfortably fit me and cost so much less!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/08/2023 09:27

All children's sizes correlates to an adult size. I used to work at Tammy and we had to wear the clothes 😳🙄

176cm was a size 16, 173cm was a 14 and so on.

Perhaps I'm shrinking. Grin I was in a school recently and surprised how many of them were taller than me!

Fiekcjdiwldnfjri · 12/08/2023 09:28

New look too

TheFairyCaravan · 12/08/2023 09:29

I’ve been doing this for donkeys years. I never buy adults trainers if I can help it, either.

Cnidarian · 12/08/2023 09:30

I never thought to do this!! I've found Next and M+S can be quite roomy, if the kids are a bit smaller but way cheaper I'm in! Thanks!

Friggingfrog · 12/08/2023 09:33

I a size 8-10 and like new look 915 age 14-15. Also adidas leggings age 14-15

Beezknees · 12/08/2023 09:34

GorillaInBikini · 12/08/2023 08:43

This would never occur to me! I do think M and S sizing has gone on the wonk. Last year everything size 8 I tried on was too big for me but I'm definitely size 8 and have been buying the same size for about 16 years. Definitely going to try it.

I had a friend with small feet who bought kids shoes and saved the tax.

I do this. I'm a size 3 in shoes. It's great for stuff like Doc Martens that are half the price for kids ones. It's really strange that I have such small feet as I'm average height, just under 5'5. Everyone always comments on them!

Itsnotrightbutitsok · 12/08/2023 09:47

My friends a size 6 and always struggles to find adult clothes to fit her and so she wears children’s clothes.
They fit much better and they’re way cheaper and usually much more stylish.

I’m a size 12 with big boobs and a big bum and hips and there’s no way I would fit into children’s clothes but I find the adult clothes don’t fit well either because I have to buy bigger sizes to fit my boobs in and then the clothes just drown me.

Shopping for women is so difficult and so I think this is a great tip OP.

TicTac80 · 12/08/2023 09:47

When I was really slim, I used to do this as it saved me a fortune. Alas, I'm bigger now!!
