to shop in M&S kids? Tried on this playsuit in size 13-14 years, so not even the biggest size, and I've ordered it online for £20. Along with a stretch blue dress in the sale for £4.50.

I think with the right shoes and accessories, so much of the clothes for teens can be fine, especially for holidays.

Also, a little bit wtf. I don't think Zara Kids works quite the same size/age ratio......

It’s not surprising when many 14 year olds are fully grown and on average taller than previous generations. It’s fine for basics but I’d agree that the clothes are scaled up versions of the younger ages so styles aren’t always quite there and importantly they’re not shaped in the same way as women’s clothes. Which if you’ve got a straighter figure might suit you. I presume that older ages in places like boden and M&S are bought more by adults (as well as super tall children) as they don’t appeal much to teens who are generally looking for more high fashion

lurchermummy · 12/08/2023 11:46

I used to do that when I was 22 and gorgeous. Saved me quite a bit of £££

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 12/08/2023 11:53

I buy kids clothes and shoes all the time 😂. Yesterday I had Vans cycling shorts, hoodie and shoes all from the children’s section and a fraction of the price of adults’!

chaosmaker · 12/08/2023 10:59

Don't people just buy clothes they like and that fit them (hopefully) regardless of what 'range' it falls under? YABU to even ask the question.

But lots of people have said they will take OP’s suggestion on board, so why is OP being unreasonable? Confused

Most adults wouldn’t head to the kids section to clothe themselves.

I dream of being able to do this!!

Im losing lots of weight but may never be a size 10,,,, but a funny shopping experience yesterday, I bought some work shirts in Asda, size 14

My actual measurements on a tape measure are a size 20.

And I reckon I should have got a 12 in hindsight because Im trying to buy things that wont be massive on me very quickly as the weight comes off

Why on earth are clothes so big these days?

The style is oversize so they are not fitting you how the designer intended them to look.

Soundofshuna · 12/08/2023 12:00

In contrast my age 14 year old with 35 inch legs and 5ft 9 can find nothing to fit anywhere as waists too big and legs too short! She lives in shorts

Witchinawell · 12/08/2023 12:03

Yea I’ve done this before with a jumpsuit, aged 14. I’m 5”3

Yes oversize is in

shivawn · 12/08/2023 12:04

Hmmm interesting....we have very similar measurements OP because I'm also size 8-10, 5'6 and 32D. I'm gonna take a look....

I think this is why it works for me. I’m very flat chested and squarely narrow all over. Like a scrawny SpongeBob.

And you’ll spend the VAT on tequila? Wink

And have the cat flap widened?

KirstenBlest · 12/08/2023 12:15

@BungleandGeorge , I think the clothes are aimed at parents buying for their teens. i can't see many young teenagers wanting to wear Boden or M&S. They'll probably want to wear fast fashion.

Grin I think we are going straight over the heads of everyone else on this thread @Oggermoller

I’m a size 6 and some shops are off limits for me because of vanity sizing. Even the 6 is too big and there’s nowhere to go below that. (I’m not underweight by the way, just a small frame.)

I’ve been buying kids clothes for years - M&S is good as it H&M and New Look. Zara doesn’t work so well. Size 12-13 is usually about right for me.

FYI for those who are smaller sized, the adult shops I have found consistently good for sizing for size 6 are:

Hollister
Abercrombie & Fitch
Asos
Zara
Pull&Bear
Monki

KirstenBlest · 12/08/2023 12:23

@CatOnABoat , I tend to make a mahoosive MN salad last me all week, with maybe a tiny bit of what's left from the chicken that feeds my family of 8 for a week, if I can squeeze it in.

If you don’t like this thread, close it. Some people are smaller, it’s not a competition. This thread is about tips for dressing a small frame, which can be quite tricky. It’s not anything about food and no one else is making it so, so I suggest you take the chip on your shoulder elsewhere.

JaninaDuszejko · 12/08/2023 12:25

I think it depends on your shape and the cut of the clothes as well. But generally yes, teenage clothes fit slim women who are average or below height.

I have 2 teenage daughter, both are short. The 15 yo is a size 4 according to ASOS and so M&S age 15 stuff is far too big for her (it's like an adult size 10 - and not a petite). She can still wear age 12 kids clothes. But e.g. a size 6 adult woman's football strip fits her better than a child's age 12 because the cut is intended to be more fitted for an adult woman than a boy - the boys shirt is much baggier.

The 14yo is an hourglass size 8 and while generally she fits her age we found the age 14 M&S dungarees were not cut for her shape so we got some from the ASOS petite range which fits her curves perfectly.

As a size 10 I fit age 15-16 perfectly but you don't often find it.

Side-splitting.

MsRosley · 12/08/2023 12:32

I'm 5'1"and for a long time a size 8-10 (probably more a 12 now). I often used to buy kids' clothes. Sometimes even the age 14 was too big for me.

MotherOfCatBoy · 12/08/2023 12:36

I discovered when I started wearing some of Catboy’s cast offs a few years ago. He grew out of size 6 boots so I wore those and they were great. Ditto one of his hoodies. Then there was a navy blazer we got him from John Lewis to go to a smart event, he wore it about twice before he grew out of it. Fits me perfectly (small boobs). The lightbulb went off - I can shop like a 12-14 yr old boy!

Sadly it doesn’t work for jeans as I have hips and he doesn’t.

I tend to root about in charity shops for more girly stuff, tops and dresses etc, but this is making me think!

lljkk · 12/08/2023 12:38

I figured out a few years ago to look for "age 15" trousers.

This is because I have CURVES. As in, a waist. I buy teen clothes for adjustable waist to accommodate a waist much smaller than my hips.

adult Women's clothes are for fat no-curves people.

Don't be ridiculous. It's the size of a 13-14 year old.

Squirrel28 · 12/08/2023 12:46

I do this. Especially for ski stuff. For some reason kids gloves and goggles are a fraction of the price of adult ones.

I suppose it’s not really surprising - I was the same height and shoe size at 12 that I am now, so that would be why the clothes still fit!
