My son just called me mummy

He’s 5. He’s non verbal with Autism and has not shown any real inclination to talk.

This last 2/3 weeks he’s started ‘demanding’ food which is brilliant, but tiday he saw me and shouted ‘mummy!’.

I can’t believe it. I could cry ❤️

Wow, your updates from your original post!! How lovely, sounds like he is absolutely thriving! You are doing a grand job OP, and what a clever little man you have got there 🥰

Merryoldgoat · 03/11/2024 15:12

Just popping on to say Littlegoat is doing amazingly with toilet training. All wees now in the loo at home - not a single accident today and he’s going much longer between emptying his bladder.

I’m so proud of him. He’s been naked since 9.00am so I’m a bit penis-ed out but anything to get him out of nappies.

Poo will be trickier but one step at a time!

Whoop! We used to have a book with a button you pressed that cheered every time they went in the potty. Virtually pushing it for you now!

Whoohoo! DS2 got to 8 before "[name] loves Mummy"[used to refer to himself in the 3rd person for years] It's a grand feeling.

What a star!

Merryoldgoat · 26/11/2024 21:31

This clever little chicken of mine was dry all day at school! I cannot believe how brilliant he is!

Awww fantastic . He is doing so well . So much to be proud of .

Merryoldgoat · 26/11/2024 22:43

@AndyMcFlurry pants all the way. School have been phenomenal in every way with supporting him - we just send in loads of pants and trousers and they send back what’s wet.

Had parents evening and he’s doing so well.

He can write the alphabet now, write his name, he knows all the alphabet sounds, can put on his pants and trousers and is completely dry in the day.

He’s using loads more speech (albeit mostly scripted) but is absolutely smashing it - he asks to go outside, says ‘hungry’ when he needs food, and says ‘littlegoat’s turn’ when he wants to have a go and he’s getting impatient.

We are looking at a change of placement for him soon as the EP says he needs more specialist support but the last 2 months have been fantastic.

Little fat chicken ❤️

My little bean was at school today and his teacher messaged to say that he gave her his crisps and said 'babygoat says open' for her to open the packet.

He's not been using as much speech at school as home so this is a real little milestone. I'm so proud of him - I am going to get him some chocolate on my way home.

My youngest DS wasn't non verbal but vocalised 90% gibberish and couldn't pronounce his own name until he was in year 1. Speech therapist saw him in school and called me to say it had happened, it was a big milestone for us all. My friends DS is not quite non verbal but only speaks occasionally and can't speak in an understandable way. It's so lovely hearing about your DS.

Motnight · 28/03/2025 08:04

Thank you for the update @Merryoldgoat. Your son is absolutely smashing it!

Merryoldgoat · 28/03/2025 09:13

Thank you @Motnight

He is such a little lamb. Drives me fucking mad at times but then he’ll come over, ask for a kiss and a tickle and I remember what a little chicken he is.

Thank you everyone. He’s got a cold and I have a hangover after a phenomenal event last night so we’re cuddled up on the sofa ❤️❤️

weirdoboelady · 30/03/2025 18:17

Hope the hangover is passing (and the cold, of course). Another one here who loves updates on this thread! <3

Iwant2stayanon · 30/03/2025 20:46

I love the updates, it gives me so much hope. Little
one is doing well and I can see all the small steps of progress everyday like doing his zip up on his coat, getting dressed, making choices, all sorts of stuff. He still isn’t talking which is stressing me out and it feels like it’s not going to come. School keep saying he is bright but no talking, just lots of noise.

Merryoldgoat · 30/03/2025 21:29

@weirdoboelady McDonald’s to the rescue!!

@Iwant2stayanon It can be very stressful just watching so closely all the time.

For us Littlegoat seems to develop in big chunks, nothing for a while, then lots.

It’s like he needs to bed in his new skills before he wants to learn more.

It sounds like he’s doing brilliantly ❤️
