My son just called me mummy

He’s 5. He’s non verbal with Autism and has not shown any real inclination to talk.

This last 2/3 weeks he’s started ‘demanding’ food which is brilliant, but tiday he saw me and shouted ‘mummy!’.

I can’t believe it. I could cry ❤️

Just a small update - today the little chicken has come home spelling the names of his classmates and using his magnetic letters to spell them out.

He’s SO pleased with himself - he screeches with joy and jumps after each letter is placed. It’s bloody amazing.

We’re looking at moving his provision as he needs more specialist support but his current school have been wonderful ❤️

I find it really helpful to read when I’m feeling a bit despondent - it reminds we how far he’s come.

He’s shouting ‘now we’re together, LET’S GO’ which we think is from a cartoon 🤣

I have to find out what happened today at school - he hasn’t stopped since he got home.

He’s now fake-yawning and then shouting ‘sweep’ [sleep] when he has absolutely no inclination for bed at all.

Aww OP this is amazing news! 👏 My DC is also 5, also non verbal although he does screech and scream. I'd cry too if he said mummy. They are such beautiful treasures and let's hope it means more words to come 💓

We now have animal noises!

He comes up to me and DH and says ‘what does the <insert animal> say?’ and we have to do the noise and he’ll do the same when we ask him.

He can also now trace his name which is massive - he never showed any interest in mark making at all.

Little update! The little bugger has started toilet training and after a full week he’s now saying ‘WEEWEE!’ when he needs to go.

Accidents are decreasing. I think we’re going to get there!

He’s so pleased with himself as well - we do lots of clapping and now he says ‘BRILLIANT’ when he’s finished 🤣🤣

That's brought a little test to my eye and I'm a very world weary old sod normally
