He’s 5. He’s non verbal with Autism and has not shown any real inclination to talk.

This last 2/3 weeks he’s started ‘demanding’ food which is brilliant, but tiday he saw me and shouted ‘mummy!’.

I can’t believe it. I could cry ❤️

Hope.all goes well with the treatment, Tillllly.

Tilllly · 12/01/2024 02:16

Thanks @ArabeIIaScott
I'm well looked after and supported so lots of positives
Do grumble that I'm the only cancer patient ever that hasn't lost weight on chemo! So unfair!!

CoffeeLover90 · 12/01/2024 08:01

@Tilllly 🤣 he does say it in a tone that says I should know this, it's common knowledge! If he turns out to be a writer, first edition will be sent for free 😁

And a signed copy at the very least, if not a dedication!

My little bean was at school today and his teacher messaged to say that he gave her his crisps and said 'babygoat says open' for her to open the packet.

He's not been using as much speech at school as home so this is a real little milestone. I'm so proud of him - I am going to get him some chocolate on my way home.

🤣🤣

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that his should of ‘CHOCOLATE BISCUITS’ is one of his clearest words/phrases!

The little whirlwind has discovered Alexa.

He’s been coming up to us saying ‘LEXA - play <insert garbled Disney song>’ so we tell Alexa to play it. Then he shrieks ‘LEXA - STOP’.

This went on for an hour before we put an end to it.

He takes me to stuff on the floor and says ‘pick it up’.

He hands me rubbish and says ‘put in the bin!’

He’s just turned 6 and I feel a bit scared about his future but he’s such a happy bean that I’m choosing to focus on enjoying him.

Let’s hope he will grow up and earn enough to pay for his own servants 😂

so accurate it hurts.

Seriously cute!

AndyMcFlurry · 17/02/2024 20:49

🤣
it’s great that he’s using language in the correct context and not just repeating phrases that sound good to him. Also 5 word sentences and difficult polysyllabic words , I’m impressed with “ chocolate biscuits “.

He’s come a very long way since August.

DissidentDaughter · 17/02/2024 20:49

Aw, just stumbled across your touching thread ❤️ How lovely, and what a great use of Alexa! 👏🏼

Merryoldgoat · 11/04/2024 21:19

Small update.

We are having more words as well as demands to make Alexa play specific songs.

He came up to me yesterday and said ‘change’ and he’d done a poo so needed a new nappy and he just said ‘sleepy’ tO DH and they’re gone to bed.

He’s now reliably saying ‘hello’ and ‘bye bye’ and when I collect him if he feels I’m taking too long he shouts ‘CAR’.

I feel like he’s going to be able to speak but will need more support so we’re going to revise his EHCP and look for a different provision from perhaps Y3.

The good weather has been a complete joy - he’s been on the trampoline nearly constantly and is so happy.

Slowly but surely.

He is honestly the happiest child I’ve ever known. He takes joy in so much. Everyone just loves him. ❤️
