Once we felt he was ready we did the following but we kind of had to force it a bit.
We took it very slowly.
I noticed that he would always wee when I put him in the path so I started catching the wee and then saying ‘wee in the toilet!’ as I poured it away. I just used a plastic cup specifically for this.
Then we tried a few times to get him to wee on the loo but he wasn’t interested so we waited until we had a solid week at home and went naked and expected him to wee on the floor (which he did repeatedly) but every time we’d say ‘oh no! You’ve done a wee on the FLOOR! We should do a WEE IN THE TOILET’ and took him straight to the loo.
After about 2 days he got it and ran to the loo to do one I there. We all jumped and clapped and said well done etc which he adored so for the next week we were basically his fan club cheering and clapping every wee.
We told school who supported us and after about 3 days he stopped having accidents. I’d say we took two weeks for him to be dry in the day. Only about 3/4 accidents at all in total.
Even on the plane home he was totally fine.
Poos we’re much harder but him being dry helped.
As he was nappy free in the day we’d get the sign he needed a poo, either the smell or crouching and we’d say ‘oh - Little goat needs a poo! Let’s put on a nappy’ and after a few poos in pants he started to recognise the sensation and he’d go get a nappy when he needed a poo.
The EP advised not to rush to the loo as he needed not to feel under pressure as we didn’t want him to get constipated or scared.
So we carried on with this for a good few months. Once we felt he was comfy we started saying ‘no nappy - poo on the LOO’ and taking him to sit on the loo. He didn’t poo so we’d take him off, give him a nappy and say ‘oh there’s a poo in the nappy - you should poo in the loo!’
It took a good three weeks but eventually he did a TINY poo in the loo and we celebrated as before.
He started being more confident and here we are!
He now goes alone but obviously we supervise and wipe.
