Just that, really. Can’t understand anyone who thinks it’s better than the original. It’s just Americanised, dragged out tosh compared to the original.

If you’re going to tell me I’m wrong, please do elaborate. I’m all ears.

I don’t think they’re idiots but yes, the UK version is better. A seminal TV classic.

mobear · 28/07/2023 21:38

They’re very different shows. I like both.

ChatterMonkey · 28/07/2023 21:40

I cant stand the UK one because I cant stand Ricky Gervais 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sealover123 · 28/07/2023 21:40

I love them both. Although the American one went downhill after Steve Carell left (imo).

Glorybetoallwomen · 28/07/2023 21:41

Sorry, I do agree, idiot is harsh. But the US version is just drivel by comparison. I really don’t get it.

Steve Carrell is a genius so I can see why meant people prefer the US one.

Nellieinthebarn · 28/07/2023 21:46

I much prefer the UK version, but the US version of The Office is nowhere near as bad as the US version of Ghosts.

Moonshine5 · 28/07/2023 21:46

Yes @BeeLievable
Yes @ChatterMonkey

Wildehorses · 28/07/2023 21:47

Steve Carell and the US cast are brilliant but yes, UK original is better, agree with you there but enjoyed them both

RufustheFactualReindeer · 28/07/2023 22:09

I like them both, watch both of them most years

OnAWobblyFence · 28/07/2023 22:16

News flash! Different people enjoy different things. Welcome to this amazing new concept, OP!

WitchWand · 28/07/2023 22:19

Word for word what I came here to say Grin

Huge fan of the office since it first aired. I tried an episode of the us version and I just didn't enjoy it. The same as the uk series of camping is so funny, but I just didn't enjoy the American version.

Kay286 · 28/07/2023 22:22

I prefer the US by far … I didn’t at first but gave it another go and once past the first 2 series (which are too similar to the U.K. ) it’s brilliant and Steve Carell makes the show, his character it so much more likeable ! I watch it on a loop !

But that character isn't meant to be likeable... So as someone has said, just a completely different show.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/07/2023 22:25

US version is one I have watched 5 times all the way through

It's COMPLETE GENIUS.

The UK one I've watched once, love Ricky Gervais as an actor and comedian but just can't watch him as David Brent

Luckydip1 · 28/07/2023 22:26

The British one is a true comedy masterpiece, very clever. The American one is actually quite funny once you get into it although the character Dwight Schrute is just annoying/ boring.

DrManhattan · 28/07/2023 22:26

They are too different shows.

Prison Mike is soooo funny

MissingGrandstand · 28/07/2023 22:28

I think they are so different to the point it's impossible to compare them.

U.K. version is brilliantly clever but every character is horrendously unlikeable, to the point it's difficult to watch. This was the whole point of the show, and why it wasn't ever supposed to last season after season.

US version is much more lighthearted, very easygoing comedy. Steve Carell is cringy but nowhere near as offensive as Ricky Gervais' Brent. He has redeeming likeable qualities that allowed them to keep going for multiple seasons.

inverness123 · 28/07/2023 22:28

It’s a completely different show really. In the first season when they were trying to stick closely to the UK one it was definitely worse, but then it morphed into something quite different - much less dark, and so much more story. Personally, I prefer the UK one, which I think is so brilliantly observed, but I really like the US one too (until fucking Catherine Tate turned up) and can see why some people might prefer it.

Didimum · 28/07/2023 22:28

Much prefer the US one. Each to their own.

Kay286 · 28/07/2023 22:33

@ChristmasKraken His character has a lot of flaws but he’s not the complete idiot David Brent is Michael Scott is a likeable misunderstood idiot but with a heart .. yes it’s a different show and I’m not normally a fan of US shows but I love the office. His acting , facial expressions , delivery of lines are genius .. once I was hooked the characters all really develop and they are all great in their own ways except maybe Creed.

CherryMaDeara · 28/07/2023 22:35

YANBU, but I can’t watch the UK anyone either now, it makes me cringe so bad. I’m not far from Slough 🤣

RunningFromInsanity · 28/07/2023 22:37

Raine Wilson as Dwight is unbeatable.
US all the way.
