Just that, really. Can’t understand anyone who thinks it’s better than the original. It’s just Americanised, dragged out tosh compared to the original.

If you’re going to tell me I’m wrong, please do elaborate. I’m all ears.

Yes, I prefer the US one too - if that makes me an idiot, so be it OP. I love the storyline between Jim and Pam and I also agree that Steve Carrell is brilliant. I find the David Brent character a bit too cringey

@pillsthrillsandbellyache

I didn’t get US Ghosts, I was hoping I’d love it. It doesn’t hit the mark.

Same for me. That very self aware, witty edge is missing for me, and the warmth of the original is not there either. But it's made for US audiences so maybe that's how they prefer it 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you think the US one is better than the British one then you've no sense of humour and you're not 'my people'

I suppose we'll just have to live with that!

I used to be very against the idea of the US Office for years, till I actually watched it and found it was wonderful!

FrivolousTreeDuck · 28/07/2023 23:31

I couldn't get further than episode one of the US version. Just didn't click with it.

Try going to season 2 and starting there, season one tries too hard to recreate the UK version but in season 2 it goes it's own way and is infinitely better.

FrivolousTreeDuck · 29/07/2023 10:55

Thanks for the tip @CashmereDarling

ComputerInitiateJump · 29/07/2023 11:18

They are very different shows and I love them both but I'm sorry op, if I could only one watch ever again it would be the US version. Steve Carrell is a genius and the episides with Kathy Bates are sublime. It's my go to comfort TV show and I never tire of it.

oldoldieoldieold · 29/07/2023 11:19

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant were responsible for both, weren't they? So I think that says a lot about RG's genius. I agree with everyone who has said that they are just very different shows.
The UK office was / is absolutely brilliant.
The US office is fantastic but in a different way.

flapjackfairy · 29/07/2023 11:31

US all the way.
Hated the UK office!
And US version has John Krasinski! So that's game over right there !

KeepingMySpreadsheetUpToDate · 29/07/2023 11:35

ffs
you do you love
office us is fab
as is office ladies podcast that breaks down every episode

scranton rules!

Deadringer · 29/07/2023 12:06

That fire drill episode was shown in my son's office as a warning of what not to do in a fire. He is hoping they will show the first aid one next.

HRTQueen · 29/07/2023 12:14

The US version is an easier watch

i prefer the British version. The writing isn’t about you liking the characters or character growth similar to Seinfeld and later episodes of Curb your Enthusiasm

it’s awkward to watch, most of us have worked with a David Brent and can relate to the mundane that is life at times

Salixflamingo · 29/07/2023 14:27

Another Gervais despiser here. He makes me want to rip my ears off when I hear him.

Steve Carrell and Rainn Wilson make me laugh without making me murderous, so that why I prefer the US Office!

Agree!!🔥🔥

maybebalancing · 29/07/2023 15:10

I prefer the UK version by a long way.
It is much darker and tightly scripted.

My dd adores the USA version and we watched some last night and it did make me laugh. It is just a different show and definitely easier to watch. ( particularly when Idris Elba is in it)

strongcupofTea · 29/07/2023 15:43

I much prefer the American one (sorry)
I love Steve carell and find him much more naturally funny then Ricky gervais.
To me Ricky gervais is better at more serious parts like in after life and better at his stand ups.

strongcupofTea · 29/07/2023 15:45

@ChristmasKraken

Likeable as in you feel sorry for him for being so pathetic.

Mutinyonthecrunchie · 29/07/2023 15:49

Yabu for calling people idiots who don't agree with you. I don't like toilet humour but I accept that there are people who will call it hilarous.

Squirrelsnut · 29/07/2023 16:01

The US one is fine, well-crafted and acted.
The UK one is genius.

They created it but actually weren't very involved with the writing of the US show. I'm sure I saw that they only wrote a couple of episodes.

The US show had a massive writing team.

CleverLilViper · 29/07/2023 18:01

I think anyone who thinks that their preference for something makes them right and anyone who disagrees or prefers something else is wrong is an idiot.

Believe it or not, OP, people like and enjoy different things. You’re not right for enjoying the UK Office and other people aren’t wrong for enjoying the US Office.

We don’t all have to like the same things or appreciate the same things to the same degree.

AngeloMysterioso · 29/07/2023 18:29

Well I like Steve Carell, and I don’t dislike Ricky Gervais but I really couldn’t stand his character in The Office.

Plus… Martin Freeman vs John Krasinski?! No contest.

And Jim’s facial expressions are AMAZING!!

Luckydip1 · 29/07/2023 19:15

I can't stand Dwight.

Yep same. Although I love RG and think he's clever at writing scripts. I much prefer the US version.
