I have been absent for a while and I am suddenly seeing lots of blokes usernames. Could yous not go and create a Dadsnet or summat so women can talk freely and openly without being monitored by men? @mumsnet

There is a dadsnet

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 24/07/2023 23:08

I don't mind them being here as long as they don't spaff obnoxious bloke all over the place.

There's loads of men post on here who manage not to mention it every other post.

It's the ones who come here and treat it like an extension of reddit that annoy me most.

Yes and no dad's go on it... they prefer here

SaturdayGiraffe · 24/07/2023 23:11

They seem to name drop Youtube men a lot. It almost feels co-ordinated.

ilovesooty · 24/07/2023 23:47

I can think of at least one current poster with a male username who is definitely female. I'm sure there are plenty more.

echt · 24/07/2023 23:50

For ages I assumed @PigletJohn* was a woman Confused

Piglet John is one of a very small handful of men on here whose presence I welcome. Most of them can get to fuck.

The internet is full of men and the thing I like most about mn is that it's overwhelmingly women.

Men are super easy to spot though. They're the ones who take 15 paragraphs to say what could have been expressed in two.

SwordToFlamethrower · 24/07/2023 23:54

I'm certain there are blokes on here whose sole purpose is to come out with abusive and sexist twaddle

I’ve been seeing a lot of misogynistic talking points from reddit on here lately. Not sure if they’re made by men but sometimes I do wonder.

NotBotheredAnymore · 24/07/2023 23:58

I wouldn't go by their usernames but some posters have distinctly masculine posting styles. After a while it becomes jarring.

I've found several longterm men who post and most of the time you can't tell from their posting style as they are more intuitive (and very welcome).

NewUsernameYetAgain · 24/07/2023 23:58

Thats what drew me to MN. I don’t have kids but this is the one women-dominated place on the Internet that I know of where I don’t have to watch women being objectified every second post. Went back to reddit recently and the amount of casual misogyny that makes it to the popular page is astonishing.

Cyberjammies · 25/07/2023 00:09

I totally agree!!! I know it sounds bad but I'd prefer that men found their own space!

WorldCuppa · 25/07/2023 00:25

Unfortunately I don’t there is much we can do

OneMoreCookieMonster · 25/07/2023 01:49

I guess I'm in the minority then. I like seeing men here. It's meant to be a parenting forum but has massively evolved over the last 5 years especially.

Most of the men that post genuinely seem like decent ppl, just a bit clueless and often out of their depth. There's a couple who pop up occasionally who are clearly trying to get a bun fight started for pure entertainment or push misogynistic agendas.

I feel it rather refreshing seeing different points of view. Hence, my reason for reading forums.

We campaign for diversity and inclusion shouldn't we be doing the same here?

Libelula21 · 25/07/2023 01:57

I’ve not really noticed too many men on here, but as long as they’re not domineering or rude etc I think it’s probably very enlightening, and that can only be a good thing. Even as a women I’ve learnt loads on here.

I sometimes write several paragraphs myself 😒.

IamSTARVING · 25/07/2023 02:03

I think it is fairly easy to spot the men.

Most are fine.

But the men who are here to stir up trouble, and do stir up trouble are not fine.

I don't think everyone can spot them.

Exactly. It's like 'can we please just have one fucking thing to ourselves?'.

Apparently not.

Yes - we see this on the property forum

onlynotafan · 25/07/2023 02:24

If your getting ticked off about that then maybe your spending too much time on here. And I'm a woman who is saying this. Using the internet is not compulsory!

When I'm on the Internet I'd like to be sharing a space with other women predominantly. Is this unreasonable and if so, why?

VivienneDelacroix · 25/07/2023 02:48

It's the men who come on here because they want women to do some emotional labour for them that really piss me off. No - we do too much of that irl thanks.

Me too. Almost feels like they're here to deliberately derail threads.

WhichEllie · 25/07/2023 03:36

I dislike the ones that masquerade as women but fill their posts with ridiculous manosphere talking points. It’s extremely transparent and I wish MN would ban them immediately rather than us having to report them over and over again while they waffle about it.
