To be bored of wood fired pizzas every week?

DH got given one of those Ooni pizza ovens for his birthday last summer. Every Saturday right into autumn we would have pizza oven pizza, then tailed off when the weather changed.

It started again around Easter and now - every week without fail - we have one night that is pizza oven pizza.

Thing is, I just don't like it all that much. DH and the kids think it's great but I honestly prefer a shop bought pizza.

I find the pizza oven too stodgy, the sauce gives me heartburn. I can't get excited by it.

My friend has an Ooni oven and raved about it.

What am I missing? Is there something I should be doing toppings wise that will make me enjoy it more?

If you don't much like pizza, let your DH make them for him and the kids and you have something else.

Caspianberg · 23/07/2023 17:12

Are you rolling the pizza thin enough or leaving the dough to prove long enough

Yes, I had work out that solution myself, thank you.

DH does it, I haven't the interest or the patience for it. The dough has been out for ages with a wet tea towel over the bowl. The dough is not at think as I would like.

I actually preferred it when he bought ready made dough but he thinks his dough is better I don't

not as thin as I would like, sorry

It’s difficult to tell without seeing the actual pizza, but assuming the home ooni pizza is decent I think you might be being U. Freshly made wood fired pizza with a thin base is the food of the gods. A supermarket one, even the good brands will have been made for months, frozen and preserved in god knows what. I’ve never tried one which is a patch on a home made one.

Caspianberg · 23/07/2023 17:18

Well either change dough recipe and ask him to roll thinner, or eat something else?

We tend to make dough, leave out for 2-3hrs, then it goes in fridge to slow prove for the next day. Better for digestion.
We don’t redo fancy toppings, just mozzarella and sometimes salami.

SlipperyLizard · 23/07/2023 17:19

My DD doesn’t like my homemade pizza, made in a similar oven. I just buy her the one she likes from Asda. Why don’t you do the same?

hotcheeto · 23/07/2023 17:21

First world problems. Just eat something else or tell him you prefer the shop bought dough and use it for your own personal pizza?

So what are you looking for here? Other people who don’t like pizza oven pizza?

How bizarre

tescocreditcard · 23/07/2023 17:21

I agree with PPs. Just eat something else. 🤔

ooninooni · 23/07/2023 17:21

I'm just tired of it being presented as a massive 'treat' every week.

It's very underwhelming.

Middle class fad if you ask me.

Basically, yes?

Hence me asking if IWBU to not see the fascination with it?

Make tapas in it! Fish, chicken, steak and roast veg .

hartof · 23/07/2023 17:23

I was going to say it will die off, we got ours 2 years ago and this summer it has only been out twice. I definitely couldn't do it every week

Hankunamatata · 23/07/2023 17:23

Buy some thin ready made crusts or use pitta bread or wrap and get him to cook those

Hankunamatata · 23/07/2023 17:23

If base is thick prob giving you heartburn

Movinghouseatlast · 23/07/2023 17:23

You can cook steak and chips in the Ooni. It's bloody lovely.

My favourite pizza topping is from the Ooni website- broccoli and Nuja.

QuizzlyBears · 23/07/2023 17:24

So take some ownership then. You’re whining about something but ‘haven’t the interest’ to do anything about it. Either get involved - help make the dough, roll out to your preferred thickness, whatever - or speak to your husband and tell him you’re happy for him and the kids to have pizza but you’re fancying a change so will sort yourself out for dinner. What sort of relationship do you have where you can’t just have this conversation with him?!

Oh thank god for that. I can look forward to Saturday takeaways next summer instead of this crap.

Can you though, if your husband and kids think it's great?

Dishwashersaurous · 23/07/2023 17:24

Just roll your dough much thinner and put less sauce on?

ooninooni · 23/07/2023 17:25

I've posted in AIBU to ask if I'm the only one who is underwhelmed by this food and people are offering relationship advice and other meal suggestions.

Hilarious.

People can't work AIBU anymore.

Yes, because by the sound of it they will get as bored of it as I am.
