To be bored of wood fired pizzas every week?

ooninooni · 23/07/2023 17:09

DH got given one of those Ooni pizza ovens for his birthday last summer. Every Saturday right into autumn we would have pizza oven pizza, then tailed off when the weather changed.

It started again around Easter and now - every week without fail - we have one night that is pizza oven pizza.

Thing is, I just don't like it all that much. DH and the kids think it's great but I honestly prefer a shop bought pizza.

I find the pizza oven too stodgy, the sauce gives me heartburn. I can't get excited by it.

My friend has an Ooni oven and raved about it.

What am I missing? Is there something I should be doing toppings wise that will make me enjoy it more?

The school holidays are going to be very long at this rate.

Aren't they just. The site is awash with this stupid, surly behaviour.

Tootingbec · 23/07/2023 17:37

Ok tactical suggestion is to try the Northern Dough Company. Comes frozen in boxes - you can get it in Waitrose and prob other supermarkets. Honestly the only dough that works in our Ooni and makes pretty decent pizzas

But if fundamentally you don’t like homemade pizza then only answer is to let DH and DC eat them and buy your own shop bought/have something else

Basically, yes?

Hence me asking if IWBU to not see the fascination with it?

Different people like different things, is all. It doesn’t mean anyone’s missing anything or that there’s some kind of Emperor’s New Clothes thing going on.

I have no particular problem with wood-fired pizzas; I like them. But I certainly couldn’t get excited about them (or any meal really!) if I was eating them every weekend and they gave me heartburn!

PureLife89 · 23/07/2023 17:38

If you're bored, eat something else

Surely an adult is capable of that?

What, asking people to answer the question that's been asked 😀?

We covered this earlier...

I know that my bar is low but I'd just be so excited that someone else was thinking about what was for dinner!

Haha this!! I was served this once at a friends’ and I was ecstatic 🤩

Late DH was the cook and I am sooo sick of meal prep.

So take some ownership then. You’re whining about something but ‘haven’t the interest’ to do anything about it. Either get involved - help make the dough, roll out to your preferred thickness, whatever - or speak to your husband and tell him you’re happy for him and the kids to have pizza but you’re fancying a change so will sort yourself out for dinner. What sort of relationship do you have where you can’t just have this conversation with him?!

This.

Shop bought pizza really is horrible.

TonTonMacoute · 23/07/2023 17:40

We love our Ooni pizzas, my pizza dough is fantastic and light (I don't use the Ooni recipe) and the flavour of the pizzas is amazing.

We use it to cook lots of other things too and love the wood fired taste, but if you don't like it you don't like it, there's no right or wrong. Let your DH feed the DCs once a week and do your own thing!

TheCatterall · 23/07/2023 17:41

Chap has one. He uses normal strong bread flour (he makes a lot of dough even before this and the recommended 00 flour is unnecessary). Rolls them very thin. Makes his own sauce. Bit if mozzarella etc. not overloaded stodgy affairs. massive salads and sides with them. All good. Sometimes we make a sourdough one.

I wouldn’t want it every weekend and indeed we don’t. We use it for all sorts. Corn on the cob, baked bananas in foil with Nutella etc, fish and vegetables. Meat of your choice. Kebabs. Marinated chicken pieces. Breaded courgette or aubergines…

we enjoy finding different things we can do with it and ways of utilising it.

naans and garlic breads to go with mains…

We are out in the summerhouse /garden a lot so use it as much as we can for convenience. It’s one meal a week though and it’s his ‘thing’. I just enjoy the fruit of his labour and give him suggestions I find for ‘challenges’.

It’s like the air fryer we have. Yes it does chips well - but what else can we do in it.

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/07/2023 17:41

Yanbu. There is literally no food in the world I want to eat weekly - not even roast potatoes! And, sorry, but I just can't get excited about any kind of pizza.

Genuine question, I'd love an outdoor kitchen with the fancy woodfired pizza oven and bbq, but how do you care for them? Does everything need wrapping in tarp over winter etc? Does it not just all rust? Sorry to derail OP, I've just always been curious!
Also I love pizza but I'd be bored once a week also!

What, asking people to answer the question that's been asked 😀?

I don't care. You are rude and surly. And now being all faux enthusiastic about pesto topping because people have rumbled you as a childish twit.

See helpful poster re white sauce and sourdough bases in answer to your query.

But you said you didn't want solutions or "other meal suggestions" when you were being snappy to previous posters, you just wanted to know if other people didn't like wood fired pizzas. What a strange thread

It's literally in my OP that I asked for improved toppings to make it more bearable for me to eat?

ResponsibleWalrus · 23/07/2023 17:46

We use ours once a week when the weather is nice. We've had crap weather this month and I'm missing it. So yeah, YABU

Timeisallwehave · 23/07/2023 17:46

You can cook other things in the oven. Lobster etc

RitzyMcFitzy · 23/07/2023 17:47

We buy freshly made balls of dough from a local Italian restaurant and freeze them. A decent base makes of breaks a pizza.

rwalker · 23/07/2023 17:48

Why don’t you just make your own pizza buy a ready made base
experiment with toppings

VeraMay · 23/07/2023 17:48

Sounds like the pizzas aren't being made properly. The base should be super thin with everyone creating their own.
That said, we used our pizza oven a lot and I got into the practice of making double and freezing them. Saved making pizza dough every five minutes. My own toppings, of course.

Begsthequestion · 23/07/2023 17:48

CC4712 · 23/07/2023 17:30

Then you should have made your actual question clearer in the OP- rather being rude to posters who are making valid suggestions! 🙄

It's literally the title.

Craving woodfire pizza now 🍕

OrangeySmorangy · 23/07/2023 17:49

ooninooni · 23/07/2023 17:25

I've posted in AIBU to ask if I'm the only one who is underwhelmed by this food and people are offering relationship advice and other meal suggestions.

Hilarious.

People can't work AIBU anymore.

Ok
