I know it’s a bit silly and we should all do what we are comfortable with of course…

But are you dressing up for it if you’re seeing it?

I don't know that I know any girl/woman who didn't own a Barbie. She's been around since my mother was little.

I didn't have a Barbie or Cindy, I had Action Girl! She was incredible, bit like Angelina Jolie but in the 70's, my parents must have been way ahead with the feminism movement without realising it! I had Action Girl's horse too (still have him 💕)

AdoraBell · 22/07/2023 22:50

No. Not going to see it but if I was I wouldn’t dress up.

DD and I just got back from a showing. We wore pink and so did pretty much everyone else. The staff were all dressed up too! The movie was brilliant by the way - enjoy!

I don't expect anything.

Neither do I care what anybody does. I just don't understand the superiority felt by those not dressing up. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Mugaloaf · 22/07/2023 23:05

That reply was supposed to be for @Usernameunknownfornow

Swansandcustard · 22/07/2023 23:13

DD age 18 is.

Usernameunknownfornow · 22/07/2023 23:22

Just to add that I probably be dressing up to go to every incoming movie I like that airs on the cinema when my children have nested out of my house or when I'm of pension age, right now I prefer to focus and spend my time on more relevant things in my life 🙂

Guineapigwoes · 22/07/2023 23:37

Just to say it is AMAZING, one of the best films I have seen for ages. You are in for a treat

hotchocandtwosmokybacon · 22/07/2023 23:37

I didn't dress up when I watched because I don't have pink clothes. Saw many people wearing pink and it feels fun. So do it!

I have been to see it. Most people were wearing pink.

It isn’t really aimed at children. Most people there were sixth form thru Uni, so student age.

I really enjoyed it, all except for the very final scene, which was odd, and elicited a bit of a wtf from the audience.

Some really comic moments.

Do you need the joke explained?

It was mentioned earlier in the film that they don't have genitals, that Ken had a "blob" in that area.
So when she gets to be human, she's absolutely thrilled at the idea of having a gynaecologist appointment because she now has genitals, and perhaps sees this is a validation of her humanity?!

Beachwalker66 · 23/07/2023 09:17

No, didn’t need the “joke” explained. It just elicited a groan of disappointment from the audience.

They didn’t need to go there.

I really did enjoy the film though, I hope it makes some teenagers think hard.

Didn't people dress up to watch the minions movie? Not something I would do but hardly exclusive to barbie

Dressing up for a film goes back to at least the Rocky Horror Show.

Imdrivinginmygetawaycar · 23/07/2023 09:29

We wore pink last night. Or rather I had a pink cardi over my outfit, my child wore pink.

There was a pretend toy box in the cinema so you could get a photo of your "barbie" in the box.

I'm not a pink/girly toy lover and I loved the movie. We've all grown up either having barbie or knowing barbie. We've all seen the dream houses etc. This was fab.

At the end in our cinema people started calling out "hi barbie!" To each other. If you haven't been yet start that - it was so funny!

Conkersinautumn · 23/07/2023 09:36

It was a groan joke rather than laugh out loud joke though. That bitter yeah. Welcome to ....

Imdrivinginmygetawaycar · 23/07/2023 09:53

I think it works better in America where they have annual gyne check ups.

I've never been to see a gynaecologist here so it's not in my normal frame of reference!

Lots of laughing out loud at the last line in our cinema!

TimeToMoveIt · 23/07/2023 18:51

I hadn't thought of to but now I want a barbie t-shirt

good grief no - is dressing up for movies a thing now? do we all need to go Marvel movies dressed as The Hulk or Iron Man?

Yes it is. People enjoy it. We don't "all" need to do it, feel free not to participate.

AllOfThemWitches · 23/07/2023 18:54

I told my friend we're wearing pink. Too right.

SnowyPetals · 23/07/2023 18:59

My DD happened to be going for a wire change on her braces on Friday. She picked the bright pink elastics in readiness for Barbie!

Always4Brenner · 23/07/2023 19:03

Love the idea of the Barbie nail varnish.

Maddy70 · 23/07/2023 19:17

Just been to see it today. About half were dressed in pink.

Ps. It's brilliant!!!

Tiredmum100 · 23/07/2023 19:26

I'm going to see it this week with my friend, and I'm going to dress in pink. Why not. It might be silly and childish as another poster has said, but I have to be serious in my management level job 5 days a week, so I am looking forward to being childish. And the popcorn 🍿

CloudsHailRainbows · 24/07/2023 16:26

Took my little one to watch Elementals yesterday and everyone else waiting in foyer were dressed in pink!! Loads of them!! Lots of Dads in pink shirts too.
