I know it’s a bit silly and we should all do what we are comfortable with of course…

But are you dressing up for it if you’re seeing it?

My children who both like Barbie would like to go and see the movie and I think it would make it more fun for them to dress up. So for that reason I think we will.

golddustwomen · 21/07/2023 08:16

Yes Grin

Dressing up in something pink that you already own/painting nails pink/ pink hair accessories... Yes absolutely! Buying a cheap Barbie sweatshop tshirt that will end up in landfill with thousands of others, not so much. If that makes me a killjoy, so be it!

Yes this would be my line in the sand too.

Buying cheap one wear shite is disastrous environmentally

Hi barbies! Is this film ok for age 9 year old? Xx

I’m not sure, they is a lot of innuendo in it apparently but at 9 they might not realise

KajsaKavat · 21/07/2023 08:57

I’m glad so many of you are also planning to wear pink.
I own zero pink but have the day off today so will see what the charity shops can offer.

all the people asking why… just because, as adults it’s so rare to find a reason and an occasion to dress up really crazy, why not take it when it comes?

amd I don’t think people need to defend their reason to do this or watch the movie, the movie obviously looks hilarious and I think it’ll be a cult one. I was totally in love with my barbies as a child.

People have dressed up for special shows and films for many years. This isn't any different
It's just a bit of fun

melj1213 · 21/07/2023 20:50

So I just got back from my Barbenheimer double bill and pretty much everyone in the Barbie screening was wearing pink of some description.

There were a few others with Barbenheimer t-shirts of various designs but it was very clear to see who was going to see Barbie and who was heading to Oppenheimer

QueSyrahSyrah · 21/07/2023 20:53

We're seeing it over the weekend, and sure I'll probably throw on something pink. Why not?

No need to take life so seriously all the time.

MachinesOfGod · 21/07/2023 22:52

I’ve just gotten back from my showing, the whole cinema was awash with pink outfits and everyone was in good spirits. It was being shown on six screens simultaneously.

I think Barbie and Oppenheimer have done fabulous things for cinema today!

IfLoveBelievesInMe · 21/07/2023 23:31

I have honestly never done the dressing up for a film thing. I feel really boring now!

SocksAndTheCity · 21/07/2023 23:39

The last time I did was for a special screening of Midsommar a couple of years ago. I still have the flower crown, although the white dress got relegated to the duster bag after I dropped pizza down the front during a good bit 😖

SleepingStandingUp · 21/07/2023 23:53

I went alone whilst kids were at school and wore pink.
Tonight going to see Oppenheimer it was funny how you could basically split the crowd in half and tell what movies they were seeing.

Cherryana · 22/07/2023 01:10

Just got back and even my husband liked it. It is a lot of pink and pastels everywhere. I liked it. I laughed out loud all the way through which is very refreshing!! Final line of the film is a fire cracker!

toomuchlaundry · 22/07/2023 01:27

Before Barbenheimer was a thing would people wear a t-shirt depicting an atomic bomb as a frivolous thing?

Ponderingwindow · 22/07/2023 02:46

We went today and I’m fairly certain every single person in the theater was wearing pink. Some actually dressed up. Some just in whatever random pink clothing they happened to own. The theater also had a life size Barbie box set up for photos which was fun.

I also got asked by several people today if I was coming or going to the Barbie movie, so I guess I hit the theme pretty well with the random dress I pulled out of the back of my closet at the last minute when my dd told me about the pink plan.

TheChosenTwo · 22/07/2023 15:43

We went last night, screening was full and there was a real mix of pink and non, we were in the non pink camp but there was someone with a bright pink cowboy hat and that made us chuckle as we walked in (not in a horrible way!! It’s just not something you see everyday!), we enjoyed the film and I didn’t really notice much in the way of innuendo or anything especially inappropriate for younger dc. I think they may not quite understand what it’s about fully (trying to take down the patriarchy) but there were some funny moments and some sad. We gave it a 7 out of 10 which is quite high 😂

Beachwalker66 · 22/07/2023 15:57

I have been to see it. Most people were wearing pink.

It isn’t really aimed at children. Most people there were sixth form thru Uni, so student age.

I really enjoyed it, all except for the very final scene, which was odd, and elicited a bit of a wtf from the audience.

Some really comic moments.

good grief no - is dressing up for movies a thing now? do we all need to go Marvel movies dressed as The Hulk or Iron Man?

😂 just do as you please.

I loved seeing people arriving in pink when I left the cinema tonight. 🩷🦩🦑

DrSbaitso · 20/07/2023 16:38

I'm tickled by all the people who are so offended and superior at the idea of people having some fun with their clothes when they go to see a film.

I know. It's hilarious 😂😂😂

Typical Mumsnet though.

Usernameunknownfornow · 22/07/2023 22:03

What's the point? So jow we going to dress up for every new movie that launches in the cinema.. The movie isn't aimed at children anyway so go for it if you please lol

Roxy4321 · 22/07/2023 22:15

I wore a Barbie t shirt and had my nails done in Barbie pink. My nail tech said she’s done pink nails all week. Went last night and it was so lovely everyone had made an effort even Dads.

Usernameunknownfornow · 22/07/2023 22:20

Mugaloaf · 22/07/2023 22:01

It's hilarious to me that you expect everyone to state "yes I dressed up in pink to go see barbie".... Typical mumsnet 😂🤣

Noimnotstillonmumsne · 22/07/2023 22:29

DD and I just got back from a showing. We wore pink and so did pretty much everyone else. The staff were all dressed up too! The movie was brilliant by the way - enjoy!

NatMoz · 20/07/2023 16:17

And here, madam misery arrives in this thread! I bet you're a load of fun. Don't tell me, you hate Eurovision too🙄🙄🙄🙄

I am watching Barbie with my mum friends and of course we will be wearing pink! As we have no reason to take life so seriously and i cannot wait!

It depends on your definition of fun, doesn’t it? 😂
We’re not all six years old.

Do you say the same when men dress up in their football shirts to watch a match at home?

The football top to watch TV is unfathomable to me (and frankly laughable).
