What age did you start getting quite a lot of grey hairs? Mine look very noticeable now at 38

It's almost like I've had a T bar of highlights but they are grey and not blonde. I don't mind it but wonder if I will get fed up of it soon. My natural colour is very dark so it's weird to me to have lighter coloured hairs growing, so it's novel!

What age were you when you had a noticeable amount of grey? Did you embrace it?

If not what are the best ways to colour it to cover it without a whole head dye?

I used to go very blonde in my youth by keeping a full head of highlights but don't have the interest or energy for that anymore.

Can you get dark lowlights painted over they greys, is that a thing?

49

it’s just scattered through and not really noticeable yet but I’m considering dyeing it

DustyLee123 · 18/07/2023 17:29

I’ve only got a couple at 53.

Greyhairedmare · 18/07/2023 17:29

Ah ok I didn't realise I was weirdly premature in greying!

I was about 20 when they first appeared. Both dds have followed the same pattern. Dd2 has a noticeable white streak. She will be 30 next month

EezyOozy · 18/07/2023 17:29

38 here and I have a few , just starting to be noticeable I think . Although I’m a redhead so mine are light blonde.

Dacadactyl · 18/07/2023 17:29

It's all down to genes.

I have a friend who was totally grey by 24.

I have no grey hairs and I'm same age as you OP. My mum has about 10 grey hairs and she's 72.

Muffit · 18/07/2023 17:30

I still have dark hair at 50, no grey.My hair is very greasy on top and like straw.(Wondering if it might be less greasy when it goes grey?)

CatsForeverAndEver · 18/07/2023 17:31

28! I don't think it's my age I think it's my job lol, I love them though I always thought long grey blowdried hair was so glamorous when I was little and now I'm heading that way!

AssertiveGertrude · 18/07/2023 17:31

44 and nothing noticeable yet (none actually)

MereDintofPandiculation · 18/07/2023 17:31

60 ish. My grandmother was grey at 21

Tempone · 18/07/2023 17:32

38 and I have a strip at the front, I quite like it for now, but will see how I feel in 10 years!

Greyhairedmare · 18/07/2023 17:32

Fascinating to see the range of ages.

I have very few - a half dozen or so near each ear, one or two literally on the rest of my head. I'm 50.

Aprilx · 18/07/2023 17:33

I am not sure as I started with blonde highlights when I was about 32 and have maintained them ever since, but didn’t really have any grey at the time. When I was bout early 40s my hairdresser started sort of “painting” my roots as well as doing some highlights, so I guess the grey was more noticeable then. I am 53 now and haven’t embraced the grey yet.

justsayso · 18/07/2023 17:33

I'm 36 and found my first grey hair at 17 or something. Had a grey mallan streak for a bit and at 34 decided to grow out my grey and see what it looked like. I don't hate it! I also stopped using heat tools and found out I have rather wavy hair. It takes a bit of a style change to pull off as I do look quite pale sometimes, but I won't dye it back now.

OneCup · 18/07/2023 17:35

Early 30s. Not hugely noticeable but still pull them out!
In my case it coincided with having a child!

Zimunya · 18/07/2023 17:35

Mid forties. I started pulling them out. DD said it wasn't a good plan, as I would eventually end up bald. I said that nature is kind, because my eyesight deteriorated in tandem with the arrival of grey hears, so now I can't see well enough to pull them out :) so I'm not bald, but I have grey streaks.

Late 20s unfortunately!! I am colouring my roots as still not ready to go grey

MicrowaveRice · 18/07/2023 17:36

My mum went silver white in her 30s but I'm 54 and just starting to fade now (reddish blonde from my dad's side)

SockQueen · 18/07/2023 17:36

I had one or two in my early 30s, but really noticed it about 35 - following the postpartum hair loss after DS2, all the regrowth seemed to be grey!

DH has been mostly grey since his late 20s

ChilliPixie · 18/07/2023 17:36

I think it is genetic as my grandmother had black hair and no grey at all right up until she was in her late 70s. I'm mid 40s and I have seen 2 / 3 white hairs this year, so hardly any at all.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 18/07/2023 17:36

Only the odd one or two at 45. But I am wrinkled AF so definitely look my age.

ShanghaiDiva · 18/07/2023 17:36

dyed my hair from about 32 onwards and stopped colouring it at 51. Am about 70% grey and I love it.

ModerationInEverything · 18/07/2023 17:37

I'm 42 and my hair is almost snow white. Well it would be if not for my lovely hairdresser. Regrowth is visible after two weeks, even with a blonde colour. It upset me a bit to begin with but that's life I guess. I use a root spray in between colours.

PointerSister · 18/07/2023 17:37

27 😬. Am now 38 and I’m properly grey. I’ve had highlights out in and Al going to let the greys imbetween grow out as I’m so bloody fed up of dying it! My mum went grey early as well so it must be genetics.
