Short hair

Does anybody feel that they don't see many women with short hair? Particularly younger women. I can think of 2 females out of many who've got a pixie cut, but the vast majority of women I know have at least a long bob.
I currently have a short bob, but I just find it bland, flat and uninspiring.
I'm thinking of going for a pixie cut, I know it's just hair and will grow back. Men often seem to prefer longer hair, not all but generally, I guess it's associated with being 'feminine'.

I watched the Netflix documentary about Wham last night and, having read this thread, what really struck me was how the majority of teenage girls wore their hair short - and yes, some Princess Diana hairstyles there too!

Yes, when someone tried to argue that girls/women didn't have short hair in the 80s, I nearly posted that they should watch that documentary!

I do think fashion plays a big part. There have been several periods in history where short hair has been more fashionable than now, the 30s and 30s certainly, in the 50s everyone wanted to copy Ingrid Bergman’s famous short haircut in a film. The 60 Twiggy and Mary Quant were style leaders. I certainly remember having my hair cut short in the 80s, it looked great.

i have just come back from France and I think women with short hair is much more common.

Having long hair does seem to be a bit of an obsession in Britain, but unless it’s thick and well looked after it can look awful and sometimes ageing as well.

Short hair is far too expensive and needs to be cut regularly. It's simple economics

Short hair can also take more styling than longer hair (I wasn’t expecting this)!

Depends how short you go tbh. Grade 2 requires nothing but a run over with the clippers every couple of weeks 🤣🤣

I have a very short bob and pay £16-19 for a dry cut.

If I do go for short hair, that's exactly what I'll be doing! I've been contemplating it for a couple of years...

@ISeeMisledPeople I did mine March 2020. My friend has spent 3 years telling me she would love to do it but she's too fat/looks like a potato/it wouldn't suit her.

About 2 months ago she went for it. She absolutely glows and it suits her so much. It's amazing how utterly liberating it is. No more worrying about what hair looks like because I don't have any 🤣🤣

We both have very different face shapes and it suits us both so well 😊

I also have the overweight potato fear 😆 plus I'm in my 50s...

But I also think it would make experimenting with colour a lot of fun with no maintenance issues...

HouseofHolbein · 19/07/2023 10:40

I'm 54. I don't wear makeup.

My friend is approaching 50. She makes a bit more effort tbh but not a great deal 🤣🤣

My mum was of the view that older women shouldn't have long hair (a woman of her generation) so perhaps this is why the older generation have short hair, and we'll see more and more ladies with longer hair as this idea 'grows out'.

I have curly hair cut quite short and do absolutely nothing other than wash it, rub in a bit of curl crème and then leave it. Every day the result is different.

I have a fair amount of grey and being curly it blends in ok; I have no intention of colouring it again.

Since the 1960s I’ve had my hair long, extremely short and everything in between as fashions have changed drastically along the way. Short hair always seems to emphasise my prominent chin and large forehead. I look far better with shoulder length hair because it softens my features and frames my face. Some women do look amazing with short hair but sadly I’m not one of them!
