Or eat out at restaurants/get a takeaway etc?

Us-
Coffee shops- 2 or 3 times a week.
Eat out at restaurants- Once a week and somewhere cheap like mcdonalds or wetherspoons.
Takeaways- A couple of times a year. Used to get them a lot but too expensive now.

We don't drink alcohol or smoke so coffee shops are our treat.

Why? What’s the purpose of the question?

I wouldn’t set foot in a Wetherspoons or McDonalds if you paid me.

Assignedtoworryyourmother · 09/07/2023 13:00

Restaurant - once a fortnight
Takeaway - once every few weeks
Coffee shops - rarely, don't see the point.

rainbowunicorn · 09/07/2023 13:03

Meet up with a friend / sibling approx once a week for coffee.
Have lunch out every couple of weeks usually in one of the said coffee shops as they are independent and do a large lunch menu.
Dinner out, nice local place usually once or twice a month.
Takeaway once a week.
McDonalds type places rarely, usually only if I have time to kill between trains and I might grab a coffee and a sausage and egg muffin but wouldn't choose to go there for lunch or a treat.

foreverbasil · 09/07/2023 13:03

Restaurants- occasionally when on holiday or perhaps as a payday treat
Takeaways- about every 4-6 weeks
Coffee shops- rarely, only if meeting friend for a coffee otherwise what's the point as PP has already said

Ilikewinter · 09/07/2023 13:03

Coffee shops - once in a blue moon.
Restuarants- maybe a lunch once every couple of months.
Takeaways- regularly.

FlopsiesAngrySandwich · 09/07/2023 13:05

Lunch with friend in wetherspoons once a week.
Cafe Nero once or twice a week, to kill time between appointments.
No takeaways.

MrsKeats · 09/07/2023 13:08

Coffee shops couple of times a week (usually independents)
Dinner out maybe twice a week.
Wouldn't eat Wetherspoons if you paid me.

dizzydizzydizzy · 09/07/2023 13:09

Coffee - about 3 or 4 times a week

Restaurants - about once every two months
Takeaway - once or twice a year. Always Indian.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 09/07/2023 13:09

Coffee shops, very rarely, we’ve got a ridiculous coffee set up at home thanks to FIL being obsessed with coffee so we get his hand me downs when he’s done with it or has upgraded…
There is one near us that does genuinely amazing cake so we do go there occasionally, would be less than once a month.

Restaurants varies, it could be several times a week it could be not for months. Don’t do spoons or maccies places. We are annoyingly precious about supporting a few excellent independent pubs and restaurants local to us.

Takeaway, rarely, there is one excellent pizza takeaway near me which is basically the only thing I get but probably 3/4 times a year

Cocotrain · 09/07/2023 13:14

I find the coffee in most coffee shops awful so tend not to bother. We might occasionally get one from a kiosk if we do a beach walk with the kids as their coffee is quite nice

dont often bother with restaurants these days as have 2 young DC and so go out less, plus DH is an amazing cook and his food is often better than that of restaurants (plus we grow all our own fruit and veg so fresh from garden). Same re takeaways

ReachForTheMars · 09/07/2023 13:15

Coffee shops- average 6 times per year

Eat out at restaurants- average 6 times per year.

Eat at wetherspoons - average 3 times per year.

Takeaways - one a year. Usually only get them if we have to, like if family want to get together for one or in an emergency like a significant traffic delay or are staying at a hotel before a flight.

We dont get them as a treat or to celebrate as we can cook nicer food at home or order nicer food in advance from the local restaurants if we want to.

Takeaway/spoons visits might be a little more if you count working away when choices are limited. The above is based on social decisions.

defi · 09/07/2023 13:33

Coffee shops once or twice a week as it's my preferred way to socialise . I'm not a big drinker.

Restaurants- once or twice a month, again to socialise with others.

Takeaway - about once a month would like to have more but I just can't justify spending money on takeaways at the minute. I think it's a lot of money on one meal whereas as restaurants are a social event. If anyone's with Vodafone the Vodafone rewards have. £10 voucher for just eat.

Why? What’s the purpose of the question?

I wouldn’t set foot in a Wetherspoons or McDonalds if you paid me.

What’s the purpose of the question? None, I would imagine 😂.
And BANG 💥 there goes 98% of social media.

Restaurants? Hardly ever. Maybe once a year.
Takeaway? Never had one.

But coffee shops? Now you’re talking! I suppose it averages out at once a fortnight but I could do three in a a week then none for a month. They always feel quite a luxury to me.

LorraineInSpain · 09/07/2023 13:39

Coffee shops - depends on what I’m doing. Probably averages out to about once a week, but some weeks I’ll go 2 or 3 times and other weeks not at all.

Restaurants - maybe once every couple of months. I don’t particularly enjoy eating out alone and I tend to meet people for coffee rather than lunch.

Takeaways - once a month or so, but would be more if we had any decent ones round here that delivered.

No particular issue with McDonalds or Wetherspoons, but don’t have any particularly local ones so can’t remember the last time I went to either!

Runnersandtoms · 09/07/2023 13:40

Coffeeshop once a week and I try to avoid this by inviting my coffee friends to my house instead.

Restaurant only for a special occasion eg birthday, except if we have a day/evening out in London in which case we tend to do McDonald's and/or Wagamamas.

Takeaway, basically never. Maybe twice a year we'll get fish and chips on the beach.

It's all so expensive, especially with three teens involved.

2bazookas · 09/07/2023 13:52

I never go to coffee shops because we make far better coffee and tea at home.

I'd rather drink tap water than crap coffee or tea

SunThroughTheCloudsAt6am · 09/07/2023 13:54

Term time, coffee shop once a week with friend while DS is in Piano lessons.

Restaurant/takeaway for lunch/dinner - a little less than once a week - again, because during term time we eat lunch out between activities, but during holidays it's once a fortnight or a bit less, depending on what else we're doing.

tweener · 09/07/2023 13:55

Restaurants, once or month or so.
Takeaways, once every couple of weeks.
Coffee shops, once or twice a year. I don't drink coffee so it's not often at all.

The restaurants/takeaways would probably be more often but I don't do the cooking at home.

Jigslaw · 09/07/2023 13:58

I only go to a coffee shop to meet with friends or to take DS for a hot chocolate etc, so once a week or so. We get a takeaway or eat out once a week on average too.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 09/07/2023 14:02

coffee shop - every week or two. I have a favourite three independents for neighbourhood/little town/big town. I got 2 lots of vouchers for one of my favourite places for by birthday which I'm still working through
restaurants - once every 3-4 weeks on average, but it aways seems to bunch up so we're out every week for a month and then not for ages.
takeaway - rarely. We always seems to spend 75% of what we would going out, for less nice food, but still have the washing up to do. I save it for minor emergencies. I dialled a pizza last night as I had a fall and couldn't cook (H was out with older DC), but before that it was March when I was stuck at work.

meganorks · 09/07/2023 14:04

Cafés - very rarely. Maybe a couple of times a year
Takeaways - variable. It tends to be that we won't have one for months but then we might have a few over a couple of weeks
Restaurants -
v. high end me and DH: Maybe 3 or 4 times a year
Pubs/St food type places/Chinese with kids: Maybe once a month

We don't have any limits on it, just depends what we are doing.

Crispyturtle · 09/07/2023 14:11

Coffee shops - 3 or 4 times a week. I can’t relax at home as there’s an endless list of things that need doing, so I take myself off to one of the local cafes and have a coffee and a pastry. It’s always less that £5 so doesn’t feel like a massive expenditure.

Restaraunts - hardly ever, only when we’re on holiday and then it’s one or twice in the week, not every night. With two small kids it’s not that much fun….

Takeaways - maybe one a month or every other month

CurlyhairedAssassin · 09/07/2023 14:14

coffee shops - never as a destination in itself. I only go to them if, say, we’ve got an early flight at the airport and haven’t had breakfast, or I’m visiting a close family member in hospital/taking them for appointment and it’s a change of scene for them (hospital coffee shop). I honestly don’t see the point in them otherwise. Maybe as a halfway point to meet a friend a couple of times a year, but I’d usually go for lunch instead in that scenario.

restaurants - usually only for family member’s birthday, anniversaries, when visiting son at uni, away for weekend etc. Meet friends for evening meal out every few months.

I don’t see maccies as a restaurant. It’s fast food only, convenient if you’re on a motorway service station and the teens want lunch (I get a sandwich from M&S instead)

wetherspoons- ew. Only useful if you’re a student or on a v low wage and want a midweek meal deal with a friend or something?

takeaway: Indian every 2-3 weeks on a Friday or Saturday.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 09/07/2023 14:15

Coffee shops - once a month or less.
Eat out at a restaurant - maybe 2-3 times a year.
Takeaways - probably 1-2 times a month on average.

hopeishere · 09/07/2023 14:17

Weekly take away. I refuse to cook on a Friday.

Eat out maybe once a month.

Coffee shop we get a lot of takeaway coffee. Maybe once a week to sit in and have one.
