Or eat out at restaurants/get a takeaway etc?

Us-
Coffee shops- 2 or 3 times a week.
Eat out at restaurants- Once a week and somewhere cheap like mcdonalds or wetherspoons.
Takeaways- A couple of times a year. Used to get them a lot but too expensive now.

We don't drink alcohol or smoke so coffee shops are our treat.

Probably 5-6 times a week. I live in the city and there's a thriving independent cafe and restaurant scene here.

flurbubbly · 09/07/2023 16:39

Coffee shops pretty much every day.
Restaurants maybe twice a week. (But rarely chain restaurants.)

Takeaway, maybe once every two or three months. That's because I live alone and ordering enough to meet the minimum is a ton of food, and I don't want to eat that much greasy food on a regular basis.

Having said that I do get stuff like vegan wraps or tacos from food trucks quite often so I guess I'm a hypocrite because that's "takeaway" too; I guess in my head takeaway just means a big order from like an Indian or Chinese restaurant delivered to your home by Deliveroo or similar.

JamieFrasersfurrysporran · 09/07/2023 16:39

Coffee shop..... most days
Restaurant.... once a week
Take away... once a week ( usually Chinese or Indian)

OneTC · 09/07/2023 16:42

Coffee: 1-3 times a day
Restaurant: 1-3 times a week
Pub: 1-2 times a week
Takeaway: 1-2 a week

mondaytosunday · 09/07/2023 16:46

Before I moved back to London I went to the coffee shop to meet other school mums twice a week, and one other to meet friends. Lunch out once every other week if so. Takeaway once a fortnight.
Now I don't go to cafés much - maybe two/three times a month? Lunch out once a month, takeaway maybe once or twice a month.
I moved away from my group of friends and the ones I have here work full time or live too far away for casual meet-ups, and I'm trying to not spend so much anyway.

Lovelynames123 · 09/07/2023 16:46

As a coffeeshop owner I go every day! But we have customers who are monthly, weekly, bi weekly, 3/4 times a week and daily.

If I do go out for coffee myself I always support independents.

Meals out, 2 or 3 times a month, takeaways once a week.

gogomoto · 09/07/2023 16:49

Eating out, once a week at least, takeaways, rarely, coffee shops only if away from home eg at mall, city centre or on holidays. Do occasionally pick up greggs baguette and latte if working all day in office (usually I go home at 1.30pm)

gogomoto · 09/07/2023 16:50

I admit the pub is more often as we like to watch bands

PrincessHoneysuckle · 09/07/2023 17:01

Takeaways once a week.
Restaurant once a month
Coffee shop never

Pottedpalm · 09/07/2023 17:11

I meet friends for coffee a couple of times a week, but usually at a farm shop or garden centre. Might have lunch there sometimes.
we eat at a restaurant maybe once a month, often with the grown offspring. Never eat at McDonalds or fast food places, it’s mainly shit, ditto Weatherspoons etc. No Deliveroo round here. DH might occasionally have fish and chips from a good place about seven miles away.

namechanged221 · 09/07/2023 17:13

Coffee shops, about once a week, usually at the weekend at a National trust place for lunch? Does that count as a coffee shop?
Takeaway, once a fortnight probably
Eat out at a restaurant once a fortnight too-ish

babbscrabbs · 09/07/2023 17:18

Coffee - once a week going into a coffee shop, but I do probably get a takeaway coffee once a week as well

Lunch - I'd say 2 or 3 a month on average

Dinner - rarely

Takeaway - maybe 5 or 6 times a year?

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 09/07/2023 17:22

Coffee shops - rarely; pub restaurant - on average once a week for lunch with a friend or sometimes with DH and/or DS; takeaway - most weeks.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 09/07/2023 17:22

Coffee shops: pre COL crisis maybe once a month, now never.
Restaurants: pre COL crisis about twice a month, now the last time was February.
Takeaways: pre COL crisis probably about twice a month also, now once a month.

Pickingmyselfup · 09/07/2023 17:23

Probably once a month for drinks including coffee and twice a month including takeaways and McDonald's if you average it out.

Some months I might have a takeaway, a meal out and coffee out in the same week and McDonald's another week, other times I don't have anything. In terms of frequency coffee out is the least frequent, takeaway like an Indian the next, then it's drinks and a meal in a restaurant tied with the most frequent being McDonald's.

With kids actually going out is an effort but McDonald's is so easy to just drive up, get food and go home again.

HuntingoftheSnark · 09/07/2023 17:28

Coffee shops - once or twice a week, mainly Pret as it's £1 for a filter coffee with a reusable cup. It's for the social aspect of meeting people, not the coffee itself.

Restaurants - about once a year, usually for my mother's birthday.

Takeaways - never.

Pubs - maybe once a month but I only drink tea/coffee there too.

Greycheck · 09/07/2023 17:31

Coffee shops - never, not my thing
Takeaways - regularly, at least once a week
Restaurants - once a month

WeightoftheWorld · 09/07/2023 17:32

This is a how long is a piece of string question I guess depending on income!

Coffee shops - very rarely, I can't actually remember the last time we did.
Restaurants/eating out - more often, usually Macdonalds, very rarely anywhere else. Probably once a month-ish on average and 9/10 times it's Macdonald's.

Takeaways - once a fortnight, but just for me and DH as a treat once kids are in bed, and we only order from one of our locals so no delivery/app fees.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 09/07/2023 17:32

Runnersandtoms · 09/07/2023 14:46

Probably would have to be a separate thread but how often do people buy drinks in a pub? I know a lot of people who seem to go to the pub a lot. I only go if there's some kind of social event and I'm always quietly horrified at the price of drinks compared to what they would cost in a supermarket. £8 for a glass of wine when you can buy a really nice bottle for that. I can understand the social aspect but I know people that go to the pub just with their partner. I can't see why you wouldn't just have a much cheaper drink and a chat at home.

Rarely - may pop in after we've been out for a walk or on holiday but mostly once we're in there we decide to have something to eat as well!

Krustykrabpizza · 09/07/2023 17:36

Coffee shops rarely, I don't drink coffee and resent paying for tea that is served scalding hot and having to wait ages for.it to be drinkable. Also cakes and treats are always so disappointing.

Takeaway probably twice a month, restaurant maybe once but we have a young child so it would be if we were out for lunch or something

lentisimo · 09/07/2023 17:45

Rarely. Coffee shops about 4 times a year, restaurant 15 times a year but most of that would be on holiday. Takeaway once a month.

I'm not into coffee or very sociable so have no interest in coffee shops, I always bring a packed lunch with me and just drink water. Only go to them for certain social meet ups but it's the choice of others.
Restaurants I like but not really practical with our family, my dcs prefer to have picnic lunches and eat quickly so they can get back to playing. We do takeaways as a compromise since we don't eat out much any more.

I don't like pubs and rarely drink alcohol. I'd only go out to a pub if a meet up was taking place there, and it would be for the sake of socialising than enjoying the drink. But I've barely done that in the past 6 years due to pregnancy/young dc.

InSpainTheRain · 09/07/2023 17:45

I'll go to a coffee shop if I go into town, probably about once a month on a Saturday. We rarely eat out (just never really fancy it) but we have a Deliveroo about once a week. Unless the kids are home from Uni then it's more frequent.

BeyondMyWits · 09/07/2023 17:55

Coffee shops/ cafes, never.
Takeaways, once a month.
Restaurants, birthdays and summer holiday.

HunkaMunkasslipper · 09/07/2023 17:59

Coffee shops, rarely. If I'm out with a friend and they want to visit one perhaps. I'm not keen on much they offer, I like coffee but it is very much an 'at home' thing for me.

Restaurant, varies hugely. I've been eating out a lot recently as had lots of birthdays and occasions but sometimes it'll be months apart that I'll go in one.

McDonald's, I'd never really choose to eat there. Just not keen, but I'm not a snob about it. I had one day when me and partner were rushing around getting ready on very little sleep and it was very convenient to get a couple of burger meals delivered to stop us having food to stress about as well as everything else.
Wetherspoons, fantastic for vegans and (strangely enough!) I love their white wine! I'm not rich by any stretch but I can afford to eat out in nicer places and I would still choose 'spoons often over somewhere nicer, I just like the menu and the atmosphere and think it is fantastic value.

Takeaway, about twice a year. I'd rather cook if I'm eating at home. McDonald's once this year, ordered pizza from zizzi about 6 months ago. Not as good as the pizza DP makes.😁

ColdHandsHotHead · 09/07/2023 18:10

Chain coffee shops, never. Independent coffee shops, as often as I can manage it. Small chain restaurants, maybe once in six months. Independent restaurants once a month. Takeaway once a month at most.
