Or eat out at restaurants/get a takeaway etc?

Us-
Coffee shops- 2 or 3 times a week.
Eat out at restaurants- Once a week and somewhere cheap like mcdonalds or wetherspoons.
Takeaways- A couple of times a year. Used to get them a lot but too expensive now.

We don't drink alcohol or smoke so coffee shops are our treat.

Never. The price adds up. We invested in a nice bean grinding machine instead.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/07/2023 15:27

Coffee shops- once daily

Takeaways- very rarely

Restaurants- maybe once every 6 weeks or so and every night on holiday

kitsuneghost · 09/07/2023 15:34

Coffee shop - very rarely
Takeaway - once a week
Nandos - once every 2-3 months
Other restaurants- only on holiday

Also wondering if those that say 2-3 times a week because we don't drink think that people that do drink go to the pub 2 -3 times a week. Just seems an odd comparison.

Probably would have to be a separate thread but how often do people buy drinks in a pub? I know a lot of people who seem to go to the pub a lot. I only go if there's some kind of social event and I'm always quietly horrified at the price of drinks compared to what they would cost in a supermarket. £8 for a glass of wine when you can buy a really nice bottle for that. I can understand the social aspect but I know people that go to the pub just with their partner. I can't see why you wouldn't just have a much cheaper drink and a chat at home.

I personally never just go to the pub,
I do go to a lot of gigs (maybe twice a month)
Yeah it's crazy prices now, we have cut back how much we drink at gigs and festivals recently. We can afford it but I just grudge paying it.

bananaboats · 09/07/2023 15:42

Coffee shops - hardly ever
Restaurants & takeaways- at least once a week

MammaTo · 09/07/2023 15:49

Coffee shops - maybe 3+ a week (currently on maternity leave)
Restaurants - once a week
Takeaway - once a week

Over the weekend we tend to eat out if we’re out an about so either breakfast or lunch - admittedly we do spend quite a bit on eating out but we’re very lucky and not struggling but could cut back if needed.

ActDottie · 09/07/2023 15:49

Coffee shops maybe 3/4 times a week
breakfast out probably weekly
restaurants fortnightly
takeaway 4 times a year maybe
McDonald’s never!
Whetherspoons at the airport when on holiday

Thriwit · 09/07/2023 15:49

Coffee shops - a few times a year
restaurants - 1-2 times a year (generally special occasions)
takeaway - once every couple of months
pub - I can’t remember the last time I went to a pub. Maybe 4-5 years ago. I don’t drink & don’t really like being around drunk people.

OrangesAndLemming · 09/07/2023 15:53

Coffee shops - once a week
Eating out - once a month or so (nice local restaurant, not McDonald’s etc)
Takeout - once/twice a week but anticipate this dropping to once a month or so when dd is older and eating more actual food and not just mush haha

legalbeagleneeded · 09/07/2023 15:53

I used to go to coffee shops loads. Now i think it is a waste of money. We have a really good coffee machine now and mostly i think the coffee out is rubbish. Also, everywhere you go these days seems a bit tired and slightly grubby and its just a bit depressing. I wouldn't mind paying somewhere really nice but most places are stuck in 2005.

Likewise eating out- its great when the food and ambience is great but i don't like paying just to go to pizza express for example.

StellaJohanna · 09/07/2023 15:54

Coffee shops - never.

Restaurants - never

Takeaway - 3 times a year - Fish and Chips.

Lentilweaver · 09/07/2023 15:55

Coffee shops maybe once a month
Takeaway once a week or two weeks
Eat out once or twice a month

WhoHidTheCoffee · 09/07/2023 15:55

Coffee shops - far more often than I should. Takeaway coffee on work days, usually sit in once a week.

Restaurants - maybe every few months with friends or rare nights out with DH.

Takeaway - most months but anything other than Chinese seems to be extortionate where we live.

BrambIeberry · 09/07/2023 16:00

Coffee shop, never. Hate coffee.

Never get a takeaway.

Will eat out once a month or every two months. If we are on a road trip, more. But generally, hardly ever. Usually Pizza Express or Pizza Hut.

AuntieMarys · 09/07/2023 16:01

Coffee...once a week
Restaurants...2 or 3 times a month. Average spend £80
Never get a takeaway

80sMum · 09/07/2023 16:05

Hardly ever!

Coffee shops - if you mean places like Costa, Starbucks, Café Nero etc - close to never. I can't remember the last time I went into one, but it would have been when we were en route to somewhere or other and stopped at the motorway services. I would guess that I've been in a coffee shop maybe 4 or 5 times in the last 25 years.

Eat out at restaurants - about once every 2 or 3 months, when meeting a friend.

We occasionally stop at McDonald's if we're out and it's getting late and there's nowhere else to eat. Maybe 2 or 3 times a year.

I've never been to Wetherspoons.

Takeaways - rarely. About 4 or 5 times a year at the most.

Are you conducting a survey?

KohlaParasaurus · 09/07/2023 16:13

Coffee shops once or twice a week with DH at home, more often when I'm on holiday or visiting family.
Restaurants for a meal no more than a dozen times a year, always with friends or family.
Takeaways, does the occasional sandwich from Greggs count?
Pubs, maybe once or twice a year for unavoidable social events.

bluesky45 · 09/07/2023 16:22

Coffee shops - only really if I'm shopping in town which is very rare. Maybe a couple of times a year. Actually I also go if we're on a very long drive and stopping at services. I'd say 4-6 times at the most.
Restaurants - I'd say about once a week or once a fortnight but we tend to go to quite cheap places. McDonald's, supermarket cafe, local family Italian, chain restaurants.
Takeaway - once a month, on average. At times it's more if we're out of the habit of meal planning properly.

TokyoStories · 09/07/2023 16:22

These days?

coffee shops - never
restaurants - never
takeaways - never

Can't afford any of it.

NorthWestThree · 09/07/2023 16:23

I go to Pret at least once a day

RampantIvy · 09/07/2023 16:29

Rarely for everything. Since DH's oesopagectomy he can't eat large meals, and most takeaway/restaurant portions are too large.

Ideally two portions between three works, but there are only two of us most of the time.

Coffee shops aren't really part of my lifestyle. I usually wait until I get home to have a coffee. Although I did have one at a bakery yesterday.

Babdoc · 09/07/2023 16:30

I live in a small Scottish village with one shop, so these options don’t really exist!
I do eat out and go to coffee shops when visiting my DDs in Edinburgh, and I take them out to Perth for lunch or dinner sometimes when they visit me, but more often will just home cook for them, to save the 30 mile round drive to a decent restaurant.
Update - apparently a small coffee place is being built at the other end of the village, so the chance will exist in future. Not that I envisage availing myself of it.

Fairislefandango · 09/07/2023 16:34

Coffee shops - rarely. Once a month maybe.
Restaurants - probably once every few months.
Takeaway - once a month ish.

We have a nice bean-to-cup coffee machine at home and we are decent cooks and dh loves cooking and I quite like it. If we didn't, we might eat out more. Plus we live in a fairly rural area, so going to a restaurant is a bit less convenient.

JaninaDuszejko · 09/07/2023 16:35

Coffee shop - next to never, I don't drink coffee so only go if I'm somewhere with my Mum who wants to stop for coffee and cake continually.
Restaurant - I'd say we go out to dinner a few times a year for birthdays and anniversaries but those are to very nice places. If you're including the likes of McDonald's then I guess we eat our lunch out in cafes on days out etc once or twice a month probably.
Takeaway - 2 or 3 times a year. Always fish and chips.

Fairislefandango · 09/07/2023 16:38

Probably would have to be a separate thread but how often do people buy drinks in a pub?

Less often since our village pub shut Sad. Once every couple of weeks dh and I stop off for a pint on the way home from work on a Friday.
