Or eat out at restaurants/get a takeaway etc?

Us-
Coffee shops- 2 or 3 times a week.
Eat out at restaurants- Once a week and somewhere cheap like mcdonalds or wetherspoons.
Takeaways- A couple of times a year. Used to get them a lot but too expensive now.

We don't drink alcohol or smoke so coffee shops are our treat.

I’ve been to coffee shops - costa and independent - 4 times this week, 2 restaurants, a national trust cafe and also had a takeaway pizza. That’s a fairly average week for us to be honest, not always pizza but we do get sushi/Thai/noodles fairly regularly. We have the time and the flexibility to do it and it’s a nice way to socialise/spend time together.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/07/2023 14:24

Only time I ever drink takeaway coffee is during long motorway journeys.

Curseofthenation · 09/07/2023 14:25

Coffee shops: Once a week with a friend and our children.

Takeaway: Once or twice a year.

Restaurant: Three or four times a year.

IHeartGeneHunt · 09/07/2023 14:26

Coffee shop maybe once a fortnight on my child free day off.
Wetherspoons once a fortnight on my non child free day off, it's quick and cheap and nice enough.
Takeaway very rarely because it's ridiculously expensive and the quality has dropped massively.
Fish and chips at the seaside once a month!

BrendaMcPherson · 09/07/2023 14:28

Coffee shops - about once a fortnight I'll treat myself to a chai latte at a lovely independent café on the local high street.
Restaurant - maybe 4 times a year or so. Although when on holiday we'll eat out several times.
Takeaways - not often at all, maybe a couple of times a year.

Roystonv · 09/07/2023 14:28

About 6 times a year for coffee, 2 times a year takeaway, 2 times a year restaurant unless we are away on holiday. Would love to do all 3 more but just can't afford it/justify the price.

Why? What’s the purpose of the question?

I wouldn’t set foot in a Wetherspoons or McDonalds if you paid me.

Weirdly stroppy response to a harmless question.

Shoxfordian · 09/07/2023 14:30

I don’t really go into coffee shops other than a takeaway coffee twice a week on the way to work

Usually eat out once or twice a week; takeaway most weekends

Ineedwinenow · 09/07/2023 14:30

Coffee shops - rarely unless for a very quick meeting so maybe once/twice a year

Restaurants - maybe once or twice a month but that can be for breakfast/lunch/dinner and can be date night or meeting up with friends

Takeaway - we don’t have any near us as we live rurally so it can maybe once a month if we are travelling for work / home late or then again it can be for months if we work from home without needing to travel

Mcds - again if we are travelling we might drive past one for a breakfast if we leave early but since they stopped doing bagels we don’t really go anymore as the other breakfast foods aren’t particularly great and we don’t eat burgers so don’t go after 11!

Wetherspoons - We don’t have one near us so never go.

Poblano · 09/07/2023 14:30

Coffee shops - 5-6 times a week
Restaurants - 3-4 times a month
Takeaways - rarely

Luxell934 · 09/07/2023 14:30

Answer to all is hardly ever.

Coffee Shops - I drink Nescafé Latte sachets at home now so I barely ever go to a coffee shop unless it’s to meet a friend. So maybe once every few months.

Eat out at a restaurant- I do like a Nando’s, and there’s a few local Tapas restaurants that we like to go to but we prefer cooking healthier meals at home and try to only go for birthdays, anniversary’s etc so maybe 4/5 times a year.

Takeaways- We probably have a takeaway once every few months? so again maybe 5 times a year?

Funkyslippers · 09/07/2023 14:31

Coffee shops around once a week, I don't usually bother but might take DD2 there occasionally and more if DD1 is home from uni. Where I work makes the best white chocolate mocha so I get one about once a fortnight, does that count?

Restaurant, family friendly one around once a fortnight

Takeaway about twice a year

MaPaSpa · 09/07/2023 14:33

Coffee 2/3 times a week

out for dinner twice a month DP is a big foodie so I also try to treat him to a tasting menu 1/2 a year

takeaway once a month

a new place for coffee has opened near us which has matcha and espresso tonics so I’ve been going more than usual

Pigstrotter · 09/07/2023 14:33

I’ve never really got the coffee shop thing 🤔 So I decided to try it when I had time to kill. 1st time £7.50 for a bit of stale cake & a horrible coffee. 2nd time £3 for a cold coffee, complained & got a hot, nice coffee. If I’m going to buy a drink it will be a decent beer, not coffee.

I eat out anything between once & thrice a week.

Pigstrotter · 09/07/2023 14:35

Occasionally get a takeaway, maybe once a month or every other.

cryinglaughing · 09/07/2023 14:36

Coffee shop - never - overpriced and overrated.
Restaurant - every couple of months. We have commitments at home which leave us very little time in the evening to go out.
Takeaway - once every couple of weeks.

Sissynova · 09/07/2023 14:36

Coffee shops 2-3 times a week. Generally at least once on a Saturday and once on a Sunday, then occasionally once in the week.

user64829576 · 09/07/2023 14:37

Coffee shop: near daily

Restaurant: once a week-ish

Takeaway: maybe once or twice a month

10HailMarys · 09/07/2023 14:37

I probably go to a coffee shop/cafe about twice a week. We eat out maybe once a week on average, mostly in local restaurants or after work in the city centre. We have a takeaway much less frequently, about every two or three months perhaps?

We haven’t got kids, and eating out is something we both really enjoy.

Did the op ask if you went to McDonald's or wetherspoons?

Slowlivingiwish · 09/07/2023 14:41

wetherspoons ew, never.

Coffee shop - very rarely since they're open on sporadic times and days here. E.g 10am-2pm on a Monday, Closed Tuesdays. 8am-12pm on a Wednesday, 3pm-4pm on Thurusdays and closed Fridays, Saturday and Sundays. 😂 not even joking.

Pub - every Thursday while DC are at Scouts.

Take away OR eat out - once a month. Wish it was more though! Used to be weekly....

BitOutOfPractice · 09/07/2023 14:44

Pub-twice a week.

eat out: once a week on average.

fast food: once every 6-8 weeks?

coffee shop: very rarely.

take away: 3 times a year?

Runnersandtoms · 09/07/2023 14:46

Probably would have to be a separate thread but how often do people buy drinks in a pub? I know a lot of people who seem to go to the pub a lot. I only go if there's some kind of social event and I'm always quietly horrified at the price of drinks compared to what they would cost in a supermarket. £8 for a glass of wine when you can buy a really nice bottle for that. I can understand the social aspect but I know people that go to the pub just with their partner. I can't see why you wouldn't just have a much cheaper drink and a chat at home.

Surely by that logic you wouldn’t ever have anything out of the house though? Why have lunch in a cafe since it’s cheaper at home? Why have a coffee out? Why have dinner? Why go the the cinema when you can watch tv?

The answer is that it is a totally different experience and many people are prepared to pay for that.

Refusing to ever eat or drink outside your own home unless you have brought your food with you sounds quite joyless.
