To think my parents are batshit

IHateLegDay · 08/07/2023 12:59

My parents don't own drinking glasses and never have.
Every single drink from tea/coffee to water or wine is served in a mug.
When I was growing up it seemed normal but when I moved out at 17 (I'm in my 30s now) I realised how odd it was.
I've now gone the other way and own far too many glasses for every occasion.

AIBU to think that my parents must be psychopaths?? 😂😂

Does anyone else's parents/family have odd quirks like this?

Why don’t you buy them some? They’re only a few quid in wilkos.

I have, many times! 😂
I did buy them some wine and pint glasses a few years back but they all got binned 🤦‍♀️

A mug of wine???? Id rather drink it straight from the bottle. OK post apocalypse but not now.

Berlinlover · 08/07/2023 13:04

I’m the same as your parents but I live alone and never entertain.

Dillydollydingdong · 08/07/2023 13:06

Not really baytshit. Just eccentric.

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/07/2023 13:06

Are they worried about breaking glasses ?

Don't you find that water just feels weird from a mug? 😅 I think it tastes different 😂

Any cold drink feels weird from a mug!

readbooksdrinktea · 08/07/2023 13:09

I have friends who are the same. I've gotten used to it.

Aaron95 · 08/07/2023 13:10

Doesn't seem batshit to me. There are plenty of places in the world where glasses are not the norm. It's a bit odd in a western country but not batshit - harmless and mildly eccentric at worst.

I think it tastes fine 😊

YANBU - sounds batshit to me.

Nope!

So what DID they say when you asked them about it?

💯

Hate drinking water from a mug

IHateLegDay · 08/07/2023 13:14

@Butchyrestingface they always give vague answers.
Usually 'oh yeh, I'll get round to getting some one day'.

It's been 33 years.

When I was a teen in my first place I didn't have glasses at all, and had parties every weekend, one very busy party saw people sipping from mugs, a vase, and bowls 🤣

As an adult I don't really drink, but I have margarita glasses, shot glasses, gin glasses.....

Being offered wine in a mug would take me right back to my teens 🤣

Sidking · 08/07/2023 13:14

We only have 2 small glasses, lots of mugs and lots of plastic cups for the kids. We rarely drink alcohol and if OH does have a beer it's from the can/bottle

Emmamoo89 · 08/07/2023 13:15

My 1 year old will only drink water from a mug 🤷‍♀️

When I’m alone, I love drinking wine from a big mug. I have no idea why.
I own loads of glasses. 🥴

I can kind of understand if it's a Sports Direct mug as you can practically fit a whole bottle in there 😂

My PIL have wine glasses and loads of crockery (some saved for best) but only a few glasses, and they're tiny ones.

After staying with them a few times I realised its because they only drink tea, wine, and maybe a small glass of fresh orange for breakfast. They never drink water, soft drinks or anything like that. Don't know if that's a generational thing or just them.

OMG it is. Well, it’s the size of a Sports Direct mug. Jesus, might need to rethink this mug usage.

IHateLegDay · 08/07/2023 13:21

@Thebigblueballoon if you can fit the bottle in, then you don't have to keep getting up for refills. Really, you're saving time and time is money my friend.
