To think my parents are batshit

My parents don't own drinking glasses and never have.
Every single drink from tea/coffee to water or wine is served in a mug.
When I was growing up it seemed normal but when I moved out at 17 (I'm in my 30s now) I realised how odd it was.
I've now gone the other way and own far too many glasses for every occasion.

AIBU to think that my parents must be psychopaths?? 😂😂

Does anyone else's parents/family have odd quirks like this?

Bad memories of visiting my now husband almost 20 years ago when he lived with his parents. Only able to drink fizzy pop from a mug. And it was only one drink allowed, no refills that evening. They won't use glasses but do have 6 mismatched small ones and mini stemmed ones for the Schloer at Christmas.
Husband wouldn't dream of drinking anything but tea, coffee or cocoa from a mug now. We have proper glasses in our house and a collection of Nutella jar glasses for morning fruit juices 😂

I think I might be able to shed some light on the subject of mug use...@IHateLegDay how old are your Dear Parents?

I live near a very posh area ( we're poor!) When I go to posh Estate Sales I am always blown away by all the different glassware thats been dug out of top cabinets for sale...omg, white wine, red wine, cordial, champagne, high ball, low ball, martini, margarita, shrimp cocktail, pudding, ice cream, compotes, etc, etc, etc...and theres always service for 12 at least! Of course, they never ever sell any of them as who can be fussed with 24 kt lead china, plus it's toxic now! Everyone I know uses reusable cups or mugs for gatherings...don't get me started on the multiple 12 piece place setting of bone China with the gold rims...(oh yeah...those are going to fly off the display since they can't go in the microwave or dishwasher!) Just no. Although, the mugs go like hotcakes!

I was devastated when I discovered the handles of my dear, dear Queen Elizabeth II mugs had broken off in the dishwasher😭 See attached...havent been able to get rid of them yet.

They're early 60s. I remembered yesterday, they had a pack of 6 water glasses that were given to them and they stayed in the box, on top of the microwave for about a year and then one day disappeared 😂

The strangest part of this is that only one drink was allowed!! How come you weren't allowed refills?
