i’m a teacher. We have mortgages, children to feed. Teachers have been sacked for not acknowledging pronouns.
She didn’t handle it well but she shouldn’t have been secretly recorded.
All teachers are not trans activists.
where is the guidance from the DfE? Why are you coming for teachers, not the medical establishment? Is it because it’s easy to be rude about a female dominated profession?
teachers are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

YABU.
People are getting very tired of rabid activists “bringing their whole selves” 🤢 to work.
It’s especially inappropriate when working with children.

TeenDivided · 19/06/2023 06:26

On the one hand, students shouldn't be recording in class.

On the other hand, teachers shouldn't be teaching gender ideology as fact and saying alternate views can't be put. If this had just been reported by the students it wouldn't have been believed.

Hopefully this will make teachers take notice about not teaching beliefs as fact. You're not a cat, sex is binary and you can't swap, but you can wear whatever you like and have whatever interests you want.

Perfect28 · 19/06/2023 06:27

I completely agree OP, and we are put in an impossible situation with very little guidance but lots of questions. We are pretty much always going to offend someone and there will always be a parent waiting to scream at us.

TeenDivided · 19/06/2023 06:29

Have teaching unions given guidance to their members on this?
e.g. Don't teach beliefs as fact?
I know the DofE should be giving guidance, but the civil servants there see to be captured.

RhymesWithOrange · 19/06/2023 06:30

No, not one iota of sympathy. She bullied and threatened those children who were speaking the truth. If she had been insisting the world was flat would you defend her?

She called “intersex” a third gender which is grossly offensive to people with DSDs.

The children are absolute heroines.

hattie43 · 19/06/2023 06:30

This ideology is horrific . She should be sacked .

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/06/2023 06:31

I feel sorry for her if she is getting abuse and threats as a result, as she very likely is.
I don’t feel sorry for her having her behaviour being made public and factually reported in the Mail.
What she said to the girls was not only ignorant but bullying.

MaryJanesonabreak · 19/06/2023 06:31

Sounds like the teacher swallowed the cool-aid and while I don’t agree with her being recorded her attitude to the student was really disrespectful and not at all inclusive. The student is right though; why are only the mentally ill being included and everybody else, the 99.9% not allowed an opinion?

catgirl1976 · 19/06/2023 06:32

If she hadn’t been secretly recorded would the girls have been believed in terms of how she had behaved and what she had said? This sort of insidious crap in schools has to stop. Her conduct was completely out of order. Unfortunate for her she was recorded but she shouldn’t be teaching if that’s how she behaves. I wouldn’t want her teaching my DS.

I do agree that the DFE has been woeful and the lack of proper guidance must make it very difficult for teachers but she handled this so badly even with that in mind.

Mummy08m · 19/06/2023 06:33

Did you listen to the actual tiktok? I did (on silent with subtitles) and even without hearing the tone, she did not come across as someone whose heart wasn't in it but playing along to keep her job. Calling the girls' views despicable etc.

I'm a teacher and I hate how harmful the ideology has become, but my school is mega woke. I toe a very careful line, I know how hard it is. I'm very careful with my words when these sorts of topics come up. My sixth-form form group, for example, probably guess what my views are but only because I'm so careful with my words and only answer these sorts of questions in a kind of careful legalese. I would never be ashamed of any secret recording of anything I say. In a job like ours you can't afford to be unguarded.

(I will say ofc that I think state school teachers are vastly underpaid and overworked considering the expectations on them. So in that respect yes I feel a baseline sympathy for her)

QuintanaRoo · 19/06/2023 06:33

I don’t feel sorry for her.

Even if she felt that’s the party line she has to toe she could have done so without telling the girls they were despicable, she could have done so without telling them they should find another school, she could have done so without telling them she was reporting them as they needed educating further on the subject.

she could have recognised she was talking bollocks saying there were three sexes. She could have recognised that people have different viewpoints and beliefs. She could have had a much more neutral discussion based more on “both sides can listen to each other and agree to disagree”.

Newusernameaug · 19/06/2023 06:34

Maybe she shouldn’t be trying to brainwash the students and should stand up for what’s right and stop teaching this crap then.

I really hope off the back of this more kids secretly record what’s really going on in schools so people become more aware of the truth.

It is no longer classified as a mental illness. People are being told/taught/indoctrinated that if they like XYZ then they are trans rather than just not following stereotypes. That's a reason why so many are getting swept up in this ideology.
The 'old' transsexuals knew they weren't really women, but pretending helped them live day to day. It's all changed now.

Clipboard007 · 19/06/2023 06:35

I'm a teacher and whilst she shouldn't have been recorded. What she said, highlights how utterly bonkers this whole issue has become when you have Ill informed teachers spouting this nonsense. The sooner the narrative becomes official that this is just another belief system, like religion the better. We can tolerate others belief systems but we can not be forced to believe them.

I would be mortified to be recorded and put on the internet but then I keep my political, religious and trans beliefs to myself.

hattyhathat · 19/06/2023 06:35

We have mortgages, children to feed not all teachers have these things and it's completely irrelevant when it comes to if someone should be sacked or not. No they shouldn't be recorded but if they are sacked or not shouldn't depend on if there is a recording or not.

AlwaysGinPlease · 19/06/2023 06:35

Absolutely agree! Glad she was caught and dealt with.

QuintanaRoo · 19/06/2023 06:35

And I’m glad the students recorded it to expose the way she talks to students and how she bullies them. Which is as bad/worse than the fact she obviously believes a load of rubbish.

PretzelKnot · 19/06/2023 06:37

I’m one of life’s rule-followers. However, even my obedient self knows that there are times when something is so ridiculous and dangerous that rules can be broken. Like some PPs have said, if this wasn’t recorded, it would not have been believed. The girls would have been gaslit that they took it all out of context or told they are lying trouble-makers.

As my Nanna used to say, “play stupid games, win stupid prizes.”

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 19/06/2023 06:37

We have mortgages, children to feed.

I don't really care, many people have the same. Doesn't give her the right to bully students because they don't agree. She was right to be recorded as they'd never believe it otherwise. I'm hoping she loses her job. I wouldn't want her bullying my kid in school

NumberTheory · 19/06/2023 06:39

I do feel sorry for them and I think the crucifixion of individuals in the press or on social media for something that ought to be a training/disciplinary issue within the school is extremely harsh and detrimental to developing good conduct in any profession.

However, I also feel sorry for students who are treated poorly by teachers. They are compelled by law to go to school and often had little to know choice over which school they attend or how that school is run. Teachers are in positions of authority over students and while I agree it’s a hard job, they often abuse that position, though not usually as blatantly as this one did here. Sometimes it’s only by getting recordings and outside pressure that students are able to have concerns taken seriously.

MintJulia · 19/06/2023 06:44

The teacher was completely out of order and while she shouldn't have been recorded, with an attitude like that, she is probably not suited to a teaching career.

I watch my ds and his friends. They are so fed up with having trans ideology talked at them that they just roll their eyes and switch off. It is the fastest way for a teacher to become irrelevant.

Agree on the flat earth like indoctrination

I don’t think k die would be sacked as there are likely many more with same views or approach. But I’m glad it’s been exposed as what’s going on is madness

SunnyEgg · 19/06/2023 06:44

Don’t think she should be..

GiraffeDoor · 19/06/2023 06:45

I don't believe in gender ideology at all. But, as a teacher, being secretly filmed is one of my biggest fears. And I would definitely have told the class not to laugh at anyone, even someone who "identified as a cat".

There seem to be stories cropping up fairly often where teachers have been disciplined for NOT going along with the whole preferred pronouns bollocks. Now this one has apparently gone too far with it. We need much clearer guidance on this.
