I was 22 having my first and will be 37 having my last. Just wanted to see is 37 a common age for having your last baby. I never dreamt I'd be pregnant at 37 . I always thought that it was a bit old. Now I'm scared that I'm just being selfish and could have a baby with lots of issues.

I know women who had babies in their 40s with no issues.

I had my youngest (now 1) at 34. I’m not sure if she is my last but she is my third so I imagine so! I would say that 37 feels very normal where I am though, lots of the reception parents at my oldest’s school are in their 40’s.

32 first and 36 second and last. Just the way life worked out!

I had my first at 36, and he's healthy. There are lots of women who have babies in late 30's into 40's. The mums at the school gate are all around my age. If you are healthy and you do everything you can to have a healthy pregnancy try not to worry. I wish I could have had babies earlier but we had fertility issues. You are not being selfish, enjoy your pregnancy x

She was due on my 41st birthday, but came a few weeks early.

I am definitely one of the youngest of my circle to be done though, most are on their first or haven't had any!

Weal · 18/06/2023 08:58

I think 36 is fairly standard baby having age now. In fact even my grandmother had her last at 48 and that was in the 70s.

I don’t think it’s anything way out of the ordinary art. In fact some will be having their last almost a decade later.

Your post is offensive to older mothers

Gerrataere · 18/06/2023 08:58

I was 34. I’d quite happily have another but I won’t for several reasons. The main one is that autism and adhd are evidently hereditary in our case and I’ve got my hands full! I’d not have a child with another man (I’ve separated from my kids dad), I don’t think a blended family would work in our case. I also didn’t want a child at 35+, not for the increase chance of Down syndrome or similar, but because there’s a history of parents dying younger in my family and didn’t want to risk leaving a teen without a mother.

I know many women who thought they were ‘done’ and had a surprise baby in their late 30s/early 40s. Not unusual at all.

TheSnootiestFox · 18/06/2023 08:59

I was 37. I personally think having a baby at 22 is more selfish as how on earth would you have a degree, a decent career going, bought a property and had a couple of years just being a married couple by that age? All of which I'd done by 35 when I had my first. Oh and they're both sensational kids!
