I was 22 having my first and will be 37 having my last. Just wanted to see is 37 a common age for having your last baby. I never dreamt I'd be pregnant at 37 . I always thought that it was a bit old. Now I'm scared that I'm just being selfish and could have a baby with lots of issues.

1st at 37 2nd and last at 40.

adviceneeded1990 · 18/06/2023 09:00

37 is nothing I’ve got loads of friends having their first at that age.

My Gran had her last at 40. My other Gran was 44. Mum was 38. Used to be common to have babies into your forties.

Sunnydaysareuponus · 18/06/2023 09:01

I had a dc at 37.
And 1 at 43 too..

MushroomQueen · 18/06/2023 09:01

27,30 and 35. I know a lot of women where i live (not
UK now) where 35-40 is very common almost the norm. I had 2 v straightforward pregnancies and gestational diabetes in 3rd, but family history of type 2 aka im fat and so are most people in my family and they have it. My diabetes disappeared at birth no issues since, baby just turned 18m

SirVixofVixHall · 18/06/2023 09:01

43, she is a teenager now. I was 41 having my first so I have teenagers in my late fifties, which is much , much more fun that I thought it would be !

I was 37. I personally think having a baby at 22 is more selfish as how on earth would you have a degree, a decent career going, bought a property and had a couple of years just being a married couple by that age? All of which I'd done by 35 when I had my first. Oh and they're both sensational kids!

This sounds judgy. I wouldn’t judge anyone at 20 or 40, tbh, it’s up to them isn’t it. 20s are biologically better and safer for everyone. By the time you’re 40 you probably have more maturity and life experience and possibly more money. It’s really individual.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 18/06/2023 09:03

44 (nearly 45) when I had my 3rd and last baby. No issues at all with either him or me. Easiest delivery of the 3.

Italiandreams · 18/06/2023 09:03

38, and very average among people I know.

Peppadog · 18/06/2023 09:03

I had my first at 31 and my last at 37, but I want one more. Late 30s/early 40s is quite normal but if I'd known how much I'd love being a mum I'd have started at 25, I got with dh at 21, don't know what I was thinking waiting 10 years!

Marlena1 · 18/06/2023 09:03

36, I only feel old when these threads pop up! IRL where I am, I'm pretty average.

FilthyforFirth · 18/06/2023 09:04
  1. It was my personal cut off so I was incredibly lucky it worked out.
LouisaMayAlcott · 18/06/2023 09:04

21 for first, 44 (a month off being 45) for last. I did have some inbetween those two!

Aria2015 · 18/06/2023 09:04

I was 5 weeks shy of turning 39.

Eh? Is this a joke? You do realise that a lot of older women who have children have not done the above before having children either. Life can turn on a dime for anyone you know.

ColourfulHairbands · 18/06/2023 09:06

Two days after I turned 23

TheHandbag · 18/06/2023 09:06

I had my eldest at 33 and my youngest at 35.

Oysterbabe · 18/06/2023 09:06

I was 37. 35 with my first.

GraysPapaya · 18/06/2023 09:07

28 for my first and 32 for my second and last. I did it earlier than most of my friends, several of them still don’t have kids (late 30s).

SnapAndFartAllDayLong · 18/06/2023 09:08

I didn't plan to be a single teenage mum but I'm glad it did. My eldest is now 18, a sensible man who doesn't drink and just finished college and securing an apprenticeship to be a motorsport engineer.

I am now at uni to start my career, I may have done it back to front but I am now happily married, getting an education and will be graduating at the age of 40

Your post is offensive to older mothers

I don't think op was being offensive..
But each to their own!

I was 32 with my eldest, he'll be 25 in September
And 35 with my second, he'll be 22 in September, arriving almost 5 weeks early.

I was termed as a geriatric mum to be, on my hospital notes, was I offended, No.

There’s mothers in their 40’s that haven’t achieved any of that so what exactly is your point?

Do you think every older mum has a degree, owns a property, has a decent career and is married? You’re having a laugh if you do think that

What an odd response, I was working full time from the age of 16 and had a mortgage at 19. Done and dusted with my two kids by 25. No degree though, so that's where I have failed obviously. The child I selfishly had at 20 has one though, is that acceptable lol?

Nope, absolutely deadly serious! Putting yourself in the position to have kids is no joking matter. And I know life can turn on a dime as it has, but because of the situation I.put myself in before having my babies it's absolutely nothing I can't handle now they're here!

Lovely stuff! Well done you👏

I’m 35 and pregnant with my second and last baby. It’s a very normal age in my circle.
