This:

nationalconservatism.org/national-conservatism-a-statement-of-principles/

Look at the speakers;

nationalconservatism.org/natcon-uk-2023/

How can anybody who has studied any history whatsoever vote for this?

Are living in some kind of shit, TV movie about the fall of the UK?

Yes you find the erosion of women’s rights tedious

That’s great.

You’re welcome to your opinion as is anyone posting. Tough if it is unwelcome

Your comprehension skills are lacking. I said the attempts at derailing the thread were tedious.

I will, and have happily engaged in threads that concern the erosion of women's rights.

You did and I said fine if you find it tedious but picked up on your language as it’s derisory to women

Sausagenbacon · 17/05/2023 09:21

MargotBamborough and SunnyEgg
Thank you for so ably holding the flag for basic intelligence against the nonsensical hyperbole on this thread.
I admire your perseverence.

And, while Miriam Cates is subject to the Five Minutes Hate on this thread, I won't forget that she stood up in Parliament and spoke for Women's Rights and Lloyd Russell Moyle moved across the house in order to intimidate her. My female Labour MP won't discuss the subject of trans issues because she is so concerned about the backlash from within Labour.

So don't talk to me about the Right potentially silencing Women, when the Left are actively doing it now.

That's how I know why the posters on this thread who are so worried about the Tories can't directly say what alternative there is.

IClaudine · 17/05/2023 09:23

MargotBamborough · 17/05/2023 09:15

Labour fanatics accusing the Tories of antisemitism now?

Something about pots and kettles springs to mind.

Ah, so dismiss anti-semitism coming from the right, because of the issues in the Labour Party?

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:24

I guess in the end it's what you are prepared to tolerate - actual real life dog whistle anti semitic tropes from the Conservatives or potential self ID legislation which hasn't happened (and the stuff that has occurred, has been under a tory government...)

Sausagenbacon · 17/05/2023 09:26

That's because the idea that the Tories are going to abolish democracy and declare the UK an actual dictatorship before the end of next year is so fucking stupid it's not even worth engaging with.
This has got to be the best comment of the thread.

MargotBamborough · 17/05/2023 09:27

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:19

@MargotBamborough what's your opinion about this ? Stop derailing. Starmer is doing and has done something about anti semitism.
For someone desperate to vote for Labour you really don't seem that supportive lol....

I was desperate to vote Labour.

I couldn't vote Labour under Corbyn and I was delighted when Starmer won the leadership because I thought he was good on Brexit and seemed like an all round sensible person.

I am bitterly disappointed that he seems to be as under the thumb of the loony fringe as Corbyn was.

I also really used to rate David Lammy. Then he made that comment about women who need single sex spaces being "dinosaurs who hoard rights", and then I found out that he had made that comment despite having defended the rights of actual rights hoarding dinosaurs male aristocrats to not lose their hereditary titles and land if they change their legal sex to female. It made me realise that there is an astonishing amount of misogyny in the Labour Party which has clearly been hiding in plain sight all along, and once you see it, you can't unsee it.

The other left wing parties are no better and it has made me genuinely despair for both democracy and for women's rights in the UK.

But it won't get better unless we actually hold politicians to account over these views. It is not unreasonable to want a party in government which recognises that women exist as a class of biologically female people, that we need sex based rights such an equal pay and abortion, and that we should not be forced to share intimate spaces with men or allow them to compete in our sports just because people with gender identities are currently fashionable.

I don't think anyone said that though. It was just an acknowledgement that the Tories are capable of very dubious, anti-democratic behaviour. Gerrymandering for example. Illegally proroguing Parliament is another.

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:32

Sadly any discussion about this has been derailed.
@Sausagenbacon Are you happy with the other stuff that is being discussed at this event ? Are you happy that phrases are being used by several speakers that have well documented connection with right wing anti semitic rhetoric ? Does that worry you ?

Endlesssummer2022 · 17/05/2023 07:35

Despite hardly anyone in attendance, we should be afraid given the Home Secretary was there. These movements and threats start small before they break through.

There have been multiple attempts to derail this thread by people posting about Trans and Labour. But I’m glad to see people are becoming wise to it and it’s not working. This thread is about the Nat C conference where the holder of the 3rd highest office of state and her assorted colleagues made pretty scary comments.

As a minority I’m on alert. I believe all minorities in this country should be listening carefully and have the means/ability to leave when necessary. Braverman is unleashing forces which will also destroy her own children. She’s dangerous with deep levels of self hatred.

You are right to be on alert. Especially since PMJohnson passed legistlation allowing the government to strip British people of their citizenship, without informing them.😬

Our rights, the ones we have left, are at risk. I was glad to see Sunak reverse ferreting over the EU laws we adopted though.

Blancmangemouse · 17/05/2023 08:03

So you support the National Conservatism movement as linked by the OP, and all that it stands for?
Thank you for taking the time to justify your views :-)

I responded to this using a word which suggested that I don't think your comment is very intelligent. Clearly that word caused offence because you or someone else reported it and my reply was deleted.

I apologise for the word I used, but I would appreciate it if you could also apologise for your comment, which was facetious, uncalled for and really quite offensive.

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:33

@MargotBamborough still desperate to vote for Labour 😂 ?

IClaudine · 17/05/2023 09:34

MargotBamborough · 17/05/2023 09:29

Oh the irony.

It is very ironic isn't it? Labour has at least attempted to tackle anti-semitism in the party. The Tory Party has never acknowledged its own issues.

MargotBamborough · 17/05/2023 09:34

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:33

@MargotBamborough still desperate to vote for Labour 😂 ?

Well obviously not now.

I'm desperate for better options.

Clearly the reason Labour doesn't support electoral reform is because they're too lazy to campaign on the basis of anything other than being "not the Tories".

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:35

@MargotBamborough are you happy to defend a party that spouts well known far right clap trap ? What are your feelings about women being too educated as Miss Cates suggests ?

MargotBamborough · 17/05/2023 09:37

IClaudine · 17/05/2023 09:34

It's ironic in the context of a thread of people hand wringing and, frankly, catastrophising about the Tory party's attitude to women, whilst ignoring the serious issues within Labour.

Almost as if this is just political tribalism, rather than genuine concern about any of these issues.

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:37

As previous OP said - Communist party UK or SDP know what women are. Or maybe stand yourself as an independent.

MargotBamborough · 17/05/2023 09:37

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:35

I'm not defending the Tories. I'm asking why we don't have a better alternative.

MargotBamborough · 17/05/2023 09:38

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:37

As previous OP said - Communist party UK or SDP know what women are. Or maybe stand yourself as an independent.

So, no sensible answer then.

Why don't you just admit that none of the Tories, Labour or Lib Dems are pro women, and that this is a major problem?

DuncinToffee · 17/05/2023 09:39

Twitter thread on today's speeches

It’s the third and final day of the National Conservatism Conference

Speakers include David Starkey, Lord Frost, Darren Grimes and Toby Young with a closing speech from Lee Anderson

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:39

We do. Stick with the Tories though. You'll fit in there.

Sausagenbacon · 17/05/2023 09:40

SamphireDragonFly. No I'm not concerned. As others have said, it's a fringe event.
We live in a free country, where people are allowed to have opinions that differ from mine.
And, I don't believe that 5 Tory mp's attendance would change Tory policy, especially as Labour will be in next time.
As I've said already, I see Labour silencing women here and now. That's what concerns me.

MargotBamborough · 17/05/2023 09:40

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:39

You think the people who call women "dinosaurs who hoard rights" are a good option?

newnamethanks · 17/05/2023 09:41

30pLee said the other day -when he was appointed Deputy whatever he is - that, in the absence of Tory policies, culture wars is the way ahead. He has adherents, as evidenced on this thread. Don't play.
