Didn't one of the speakers say that the fact Germany 'mucked it up twice' when they tried nationalism shouldn't put Britain off”

Quite. That single statement in itself should have us all worried. Most people will keep their heads firmly in the sand, though.

Yes, I mean WTF?!

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 08:56

@SunnyEgg So conservatives don't sneer ? Okaaayy...

Shouldn't Labour be more focused on the price of a loaf of bread, rather than the re-education of dinosaurs who refuse to believe in the womanly penis?

It’s because there’s not much to separate the parties. The price of bread will not magically change and the same economic restrictions will hamper Labour

The left are lurching towards authoritarian gender ideology because it’s a point of difference. An unnecessary one and bad for women but there you go

Yep. Douglas Murray.

There is also a bit of concern around the use of the term "cultural Marxism", which the NatCons are fond of using. Guardian called Braverman out on it back in 2019.

Just the Home Secretary endorsing a man who has called for a ban on immigration from Muslim countries, said conditions for Muslims in Europe must be "made harder across the board" and described London as a "foreign country" due to "white Britons" not being the majority.

Actually it would be a good discussion if it stuck to the subject.

We have a conservative party in government sending their MPs to a far right conference where they are espousing views that would have been associated with illegal groups 20 years ago.

The whataboutery on here to try to steer the subject onto the favourite "labour don't know what a woman is, they will do (insert comment with no basis) is tedious at best.

Will we even get a general election or will the current bunch try to change the rules before it happens? They seem to be doing whatever the fuck they like, with no oversight and no consideration for parliament.

This Nat-C stuff is just bringing it out into the open. Right now, the but labour is hypothetical, whatvthe conservatives are doing is factual. For me, right now, that is my biggest concern.

Yes you find the erosion of women’s rights tedious

That’s great.

You’re welcome to your opinion as is anyone posting. Tough if it is unwelcome

All amicable targets that would get this country back to prosperity and success.

The fall of the UK is the current trajectory of creeping ever-leftward, inch by inch to satisfy the demands of a vocal minority who practice extreme intolerance to anyone who thinks differently.

Labour will get into power not as a result of left-wing policies being popular, but as a protest against the Conservatives' incompetence in delivering their own policies.

If the Conservatives do a decent shuffle they'll be back in the following term.

Notonthestairs · 17/05/2023 09:05

"In the UK it's less clear cut because the Tories are not actually trying to ban contraception or abortions other than in the fevered imaginations of people like some of the posters in this thread."

Toro MPs are standing up to say that divorce is too easy, that the "normative" family is the only way, that women should be incentivised to stay at home (never mind the mortgage or energy bills) and that we need to produce more babies.
And 109 Tory & DUP MPs wanted to be able to pray within abortion buffer zones.
& not once have those views concerned Conservative voters? Never mind Labour why aren't you challenging them?

Is it though?
When extra measures are being put out to be able to go and vote like photo ID (pensioner type bus passes fine, student ones not) and apparently leaflets "accidentally" going out telling people they don't need photo ID taking with you (yes you do!) I wouldn't put anything past them.

Because none of this equals the Tories making even the slightest attempt to restrict access to contraception or abortion.

They will not do these things because they are not vote winners and the Tories actually care about winning.

HTH.

Yanbu op. I think most people can see this for what it is. The attempts to try and derail into trans culture wars stuff is exactly to be expected, 30p Lee even admitted as much on camera, that the next election would be fought by whipping up anything culture wars related. What a way to run a country.

And this:

Didn't one of the speakers say that the fact Germany 'mucked it up twice' when they tried nationalism shouldn't put Britain off”

This is absolutely chilling to me and speaks volumes. Fwiw, I don’t think we are a hard right country at all. This rhetoric belongs in hard right parties, tge BNP, Britain first or whatever bollocks it’s called. Electorate will I think show them the door.

There’s a more provocative fringe to every political movement. Unless they are advocating some kind of extreme ideology or race hate, then part of living in a civilised society is accepting others have their own points of view - and recognising that fringe opinions are just that - fringe opinions. In short, try to grow up.

Yes, and someone complaining about banning abortion. ARE YOU AWARE WHAT ABORTION REALLY IS ???? - RIPPING AND DISMEMEBERING A TINY CHILD FROM A MOTHER'S UTERUS.

Women’s rights and the impact on us, including my dc

The majority of abortions take place before the embryo even has limbs.

That's because the idea that the Tories are going to abolish democracy and declare the UK an actual dictatorship before the end of next year is so fucking stupid it's not even worth engaging with.

The thread was about the National Conservatives, not gender id issues.
A not insignificant faction of the party, however much the detractors are trying to minimize.
Sunak is in deep shit because he needs to placate them to survive.
@MargotBamborough Jewish groups are concerned because of the well known antisemitic trope 'cultural marxism' being bandied about.

You don’t have to buy into his words do you? Do you think he’s right on other things or just this

By all means say women’s rights and their views on this don’t matter but call it what it is not ‘trans stuff’

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 09:19

@MargotBamborough what's your opinion about this ? Stop derailing. Starmer is doing and has done something about anti semitism.
For someone desperate to vote for Labour you really don't seem that supportive lol....
