nationalconservatism.org/national-conservatism-a-statement-of-principles/

Look at the speakers;

nationalconservatism.org/natcon-uk-2023/

How can anybody who has studied any history whatsoever vote for this?

Are living in some kind of shit, TV movie about the fall of the UK?

It's actually worrying on this thread how many people have their head stuck in the sand over it all.

They don’t have their heads buried in the sand. The Heritage Foundation and their ilk are well funded. They provide millions to US candidates every year. They will also fund a strong social media arm, some of which will be used to ‘influence’ discussion forums. You’ll notice a pattern of minimising, whatabouttery and when that fails trans will be brought in even though it has nothing to do with the topic.

Notonthestairs · 17/05/2023 08:16

I suppose another question should be is why the Home Secretary at a point of crisis should be spending her working hours at a US funded right wing think tank.
Does she not have enough to do?

Abso-bloody-lutely!!

For such a well publicised speech, there was hardly anyone in attendance and I’d bet my bottom dollar, at least 20-30% were journalists.

This is what concerns me. Once again the MSM are normalising a niche event and giving it lots of air space. Most events with this kind of attendance and crank opinions wouldn't even trouble the pages of the village newsletter.

Actually, if you researched , you would find large sections of the media were not given press passes and no filmed interviews with speakers were permitted.

MargotBamborough · 17/05/2023 08:23

Is that why the Tories proposed more hours of funded childcare and women on Mumsnet started moaning that this government just wants to force people to work and have their children looked after by strangers then?

Schrodinger's sexists.

It's great that they've done that.

But this is about the potential future leaders and the future direction

Not the current party.

The Heritage Foundation has nothing to do with women in the UK concerned about their own rights.

But if you're concerned about the influence of well funded shady lobby groups, have you heard of Stonewall?

SunnyEgg · 17/05/2023 08:24

Why don’t posters just stick to a Labour FB site if mn is too varied?

I ask questions because poster say they are misrepresented and trying to understand this terror

Everyone can post how they feel, even if I don’t agree. That’s the point of a forum

Right. So you're worried about theoretical, distant threats to women's rights, but not actual, near future ones?

Logical.

So start a thread on it - this thread is not about trans

No one is talking about ‘trans’

It’s women’s rights and the her concerns on where the parties are going

I know the left only want views that they agree with but tough really

Its not about agreeing with views etc, its about evidence, we have 13 years of what the Tories have done to women and girls rights, from sport in schools to poverty and encouraging DV by closing so many DV refuge's via cutting funding to councils.
They say one thing and do another, they know what a woman is, yet have opened up many more gender clinics and allow around 400 men each year to get a GRC, without surgery, its basically self ID, live like a woman (how is that even possible???) and get a GRC.

In my opinion, the Tories are now a far right party, more in common with the USA's republican party.... see how quickly Johnson changed the whole tone of politic's? a PM lying to the Queen, shutting down Parliament, kicking out all the centralists from his own party.... we rely on decent people in power to do the right thing... leaves the door wide open to crooks and the extremists.... so those who worry about removal of abortion rights at correct to be concerned... look how quickly it took the Americans to get the Supreme court to rescind abortion rights?

We are currently heading down this road too.

After David Lammy and his ilk, the people most putting me off voting Labour are the kind we are seeing on this thread.

And I was desperate to vote Labour. Genuinely.

If you look at actual policies, rather than engaging in hyperbolic hand wringing, you'll see that the Tories are actually pretty close to the US Democrats, not the Republicans.

It sort of proves it works though. Look how many read their aims and thought they were the ‘Christian right’. Word your aims acceptably enough and people won’t look further than that. The people that need to will have heard the dog whistles though.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Preach! But the good news is, their attempts to focus on ‘what a woman is’ is not working. We saw in the local elections that this a Twitter/social media debate. In the real world, people are focused on why they can’t afford a load of bread while Michelle Mone buys a new yacht with stolen tax money and nothing happens.

In regards to frog boiling. It is wise to remain super vigilant. During my lifetime in the former Yugoslavia, people who were friends and neighbours on a Monday, were raping and mustering each other on the Tuesday. In Rwanda, Hutu friends and neighbours of Tutsi’s, were chopping them to death with machetes the next day. I’m not yet 50.

I think it is fair to say the US Democrats were comparable in some ways to the Tories in times past. But not sure the comparison holds now.

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/05/2023 08:42

Yes the Tories shifted way to the right as they assimilated UKIP.

We condemn the use of state and private institutions to discriminate and divide us against one another on the basis of race. The cultural sympathies encouraged by a decent nationalism offer a sound basis for conciliation and unity among diverse communities. The nationalism we espouse respects, and indeed combines, the unique needs of particular minority communities and the common good of the nation as a whole.

I’d be interested to see what people are assuming they mean by this.

Interesting. It’s incredibly vague isn’t it. I would interpret it as a hint that they are not keen on the Black Lives Matter movement.

Shouldn't Labour be more focused on the price of a loaf of bread, rather than the re-education of dinosaurs who refuse to believe in the womanly penis?

Samphiredragonfly · 17/05/2023 08:49

@MargotBamborough vote for the Conservatives, Reform, whoever floats your boat.
Ultimately it all depends on which party's vision for the UK appeals.

Jonei · 17/05/2023 08:53

After David Lammy and his ilk, the people most putting me off voting Labour are the kind we are seeing on this thread.

Oh yes, I'm the same. Floating voter, looking for a temporary new home. I was quite inspired by KS's speech, it gave me a bit of hope and I thought, maybe I could vote Labour, if only he could get the thick people out of his party.

And then I see that labour voting cheater, Patrica Hannah Wood, and think, yeah, they'll stop at nothing.

Then there's the sneering, on here all the time if people don't fall in with the labour group think.

The casual gaslighting what does it matter what a woman is when you can't afford a loaf of bread 🙄

Then I think, what happened to the party I supported in my youth, who are these identity politics sneering creatures who have taken it over.

Then I think get to fuck, I'm not dirtying my hands and aligning myself with the stupid, sneering, ignorant people who don't care about the safety / rights of over half the population.

I can definitely vote better than that.

Quite. That single statement in itself should have us all worried. Most people will keep their heads firmly in the sand, though.

A party that actually stands up for women's rights and child safeguarding is what would float my boat. Unfortunately that party doesn't seem to exist.

In the US, women have the unpalatable choice between a party which knows what a woman is and doesn't want them to have access to contraception or abortions, and a party which supports the rights of people with uteruses to access contraception and uteruses but otherwise denies that they exist or should have any sex based rights. In that case, the latter is probably the lesser of two evils.

In the UK it's less clear cut because the Tories are not actually trying to ban contraception or abortions other than in the fevered imaginations of people like some of the posters in this thread.

Actually it would be a good discussion if it stuck to the subject.

We have a conservative party in government sending their MPs to a far right conference where they are espousing views that would have been associated with illegal groups 20 years ago.

The whataboutery on here to try to steer the subject onto the favourite "labour don't know what a woman is, they will do (insert comment with no basis) is tedious at best.

Will we even get a general election or will the current bunch try to change the rules before it happens? They seem to be doing whatever the fuck they like, with no oversight and no consideration for parliament.

This Nat-C stuff is just bringing it out into the open. Right now, the but labour is hypothetical, whatvthe conservatives are doing is factual. For me, right now, that is my biggest concern.
