To think I’m too old for this footwear?

I am told from reliable cool teen/young adult sources that crocs and tevas are cool and I should get some.

I don’t mean for a camping trip, I mean for actual day to day life. I am looking for comfortable with a bit of heel support, so no flip flop, slip on type summer shoes to nip to the shops in and such. I already have Birkenstocks.

Aibu to feel that crocs and tevas have an age limit when it comes to coolness? Will I just look even older than I am in my teva walking sandals and comfy crocs?

I don't see how crocs and tevas can have age limits. Just wear them if you want to.

Sissynova · 11/05/2023 06:22

The only people I see wearing crocs are old people and toddlers. I would hardly call it the cool shoe of young people.

MinnieMountain · 11/05/2023 06:24

They’re popular with campers apparently.

Davestwattymissus · 11/05/2023 06:25

Crocs - hard NO they are awful! Tevas - I have 3 pairs of the flatforms and I'm 50

Beezknees · 11/05/2023 06:26

YABU to think that any item of clothing has an age limit.

TitInATrance · 11/05/2023 06:27

I have Tevas for the beach, have worn them in town but feel scruffy doing so.
The one I have don’t have any support, the sole is totally flat.

Crunchymum · 11/05/2023 06:27

Def popular with the cool and hip.

I am neither and have Crocs due to arthritis that manifests in my feet.

I do like the croc sandals though. Comfortable and quite pretty.

@Sissynova

Can you define old?

They definitely are fashionable at the moment. I'm 33 and see plenty of people my age and younger in them. Crocs 'n' socks are the in thing apparently.

My 17 year old Dd has a pair and my 16 year old niece. All the teenagers wear them in my area.

isthismylifenow · 11/05/2023 06:39

Just coming out of summer wear and they are massively in at the moment. With all ages.

The youngsters like to put the jibbits on them.

RedRobin100 · 11/05/2023 06:41

I love crocs but certainly not because they are “cool” - to me they are inherently uncool

but so so comfy for about the house and garden, and actually keep you’re feet really warm in winter too!

I would never wear mine out of the house - but I saw a “younger person” wearing them in the cinema the other day - so go figure

SarahSmith2023 · 11/05/2023 06:42

crocs. For actual adults - For comfort, yes. For style, no. Maybe a trend for teenagers/very early 20's, who are young enough to wear daft things (as we all did) & look 'on trend'

I hate sandals with a passion, but for a very casual, practical wear no worse than any others, but IMO too chunky/sporty for with a dress for a BBQ etc. there are pretty, but not practical flip flop style things for that.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 11/05/2023 06:45

Aw I was wearing my Tevas last night with jeans and t shirt! Didn’t know they were same category as crocs.

However we are also a crocs household - DH recently converted (only for garden wear I will admit!). I used to wear them lots for work. Easy for kids. However I walked down to the shops and back in them last week (bad day 😄) and have sores on the tops of my feet from them rubbing now. So crocs and socks for a reason!!

Im 30s btw! They’re definitely In with the teens though.

They are! I have a teen. Younger people love them.

They are if you have the lights on them Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/05/2023 07:04

Crocs are definitely having a moment. It’s not a moment I wish to be part of.

Tevas - I’d be willing to try for a holiday in hot weather In which I wanted to do a lot of walking.

I'm not long back from Lanzarote. I was finally vindicated in Crocs being very popular and very cool. The number of funky teen and twenty somethings wearing them was astounding, and all nationalities. I think they are slightly less mainstream in the UK.

Curiosity101 · 11/05/2023 07:10

There are plenty of pretty walking sandals available (full arch support and around the ankle). You don't have to resort to Tevas or Crocs.

I have Merrell Terran Lattice sandals. But there's loads if you have a Google for 'pretty walking sandals'

Curiosity101 · 11/05/2023 07:11

I'm 33 for reference

Fatkittythinkitty · 11/05/2023 07:12

Wow, I would never have imagined a time when crocs and tevas were cool. I don't know if that trend has reached my area of the UK yet as my parents are in their 70s and wear crocs and get gently poked fun at by their grandchildren. (My nieces and nephews before this thread gets derailed by people telling me what an awful parent I am)

Xrays · 11/05/2023 07:13

Crocs are most definitely back in fashion again. The newest styles are selling on Asos and suchlike for about £70 😳😳

I don’t think there’s an age cut off for either crocs or Tevas but then I’m nearly 43 and still dress like I’m 21 I think despite being a size 18/20 as opposed to the 8 I was then. Denial I think. I refuse to change what I wear.

Xrays · 11/05/2023 07:14

These are the “in” crocs right now -
