To think I’m too old for this footwear?

I am told from reliable cool teen/young adult sources that crocs and tevas are cool and I should get some.

I don’t mean for a camping trip, I mean for actual day to day life. I am looking for comfortable with a bit of heel support, so no flip flop, slip on type summer shoes to nip to the shops in and such. I already have Birkenstocks.

Aibu to feel that crocs and tevas have an age limit when it comes to coolness? Will I just look even older than I am in my teva walking sandals and comfy crocs?

Crocs are the most trending thing on Amazon right now they are cool and that’s because of comfort and how they fit with the casual look ! There’s no age limit my adult kids wear them I wear them everyone who doesn’t care what others think wear them 😂 x

People can be seen out wearing leggings.
Surely an item of clothing that should have been left behind when leaving nursery.
😉😁😁

I'm 31. I live in and love my crocs and have done for several years, and I dont care what anyone else thinks 🤷🏻‍♀️
Theyre comftable, supportive, non smelly, easy to clean etc etc

The only people I see wearing crocs are old people and toddlers. I would hardly call it the cool shoe of young people.

Nope, they are very cool with lots of teens atm. I guess it's ironic, but 'croc life' is a thing!

Dd is 20 and she loves her crocs, she’s says they are the comfiest pair of shoes she has, most of her friends have them as well. She actually suggested I get some for myself yesterday, but I graciously passed on that as they’re just not me.

But I personally think there’s no age limit on clothes and shoes if you like them then wear them.
I have clothes and shoes that I’m sure some would say I’m too old for but I don’t give two figs, if I like it I’m wearing it!!

I was informed last night by my 17 year old Ds that crocs are fashionable. I found it incredibly funny because they were popular when he was tiny, he had some Bob the builder ones, then they were worse than the plague, now they're in again. He was trying to convince me to get some. I'm 50.

I watched a French lady of about 30 earlier walk through a mall I was sat in and noticed she was wearing crocs. I’d posted to this thread before I left the house so I instantly thought of it.
Anyway, she had on beige crocs with similar colour wide leg trousers, a blouse a beautiful checked scarf and a knee length coat. She looked extremely classy and the whole look really suited her.
Surprised me a bit how good she made them look.

Ah, but French - that comes with in-built chic!

So, is it only certain styles of Teva that are "cool" then, or is it the brand? Only, looking at the Teva and the Merrell website the shoes don't seem that much different to me?

Couple of examples attached.

It’s the foam sole tevas, not hard sole like those and the brand too.

Lol there’s hope for me yet, I wear crocs for hanging washing out, camping (and occasional taxi service). I live in tevas in the summer for dog walking, hot days etc. I’m 50 and maybe I’m finally cool 😎

I’m not sure if you’re being ironic? I’m assuming we can wear leggings and crocs if we choose to do so?

sheworemellowyellow · 12/05/2023 23:07

Much like dungarees, crocs and tevas only look cool on young people because they can wear any old shit and look cool - it’s the way they wear them. Insouciance, or something. Adults wearing them look like huge toddlers, or like they’re trying to be cool.

Cool for a woman in her 50s doesn’t work the same way imo. There are very few items that look cool whatever the age, sex or shape: leather jacket, jeans, certain t shirts, certain sneakers. Young people wearing other items that only older women can pull off just look odd, like they’re trying to be older than they are.

50 yo here. Got my first crocs last Christmas when we had a cold snap and my toes were freezing wfh wearing sliders. Wanted something with a back but didn't want nana slippers. Bought fur lined ones. Game.changer! Only went outdoors to b and q for click and collect yesterday for the first time though. But they are black and grey glitter 🤣 my 19d, 15d and even my 25s have a pair and they love theirs too. All the teens wear them round ours. With big white socks!

I8toys · 13/05/2023 19:31

I wear Tevas and I'm 51. Is that wrong? Although they did give me blisters walking around Munich last summer.....

User14528564 · 13/05/2023 19:37

I’m mid 60s and they are very popular on the caravan site I’m on now. I have 2 pairs in the caravan and a pair at home for gardening, they are very practical and last ages. Cool, they are not

User14528564 · 13/05/2023 19:39

I also wear my socks with them if it’s cold. One of my pairs has a furry inside
