To think I’m too old for this footwear?

I am told from reliable cool teen/young adult sources that crocs and tevas are cool and I should get some.

I don’t mean for a camping trip, I mean for actual day to day life. I am looking for comfortable with a bit of heel support, so no flip flop, slip on type summer shoes to nip to the shops in and such. I already have Birkenstocks.

Aibu to feel that crocs and tevas have an age limit when it comes to coolness? Will I just look even older than I am in my teva walking sandals and comfy crocs?

My son and his girlfriend are 21 and fairly cool. They wear crocs lots. She makes the little things that you put through the holes as well and sells absolutely loads of them.

They are! I have a teen. Younger people love them.

I have a 19and 21 yr old and none of them or their friends wear them. Dd says they are ugly (and I have to agree)

crocs are the cause of a huge amount of injuries at my work place (early years) they offer no support and don’t stay on kids feet properly.

i work with a range of people from 18-58 and the only ones who wear crocs are 26 , 30 and 58.

PocketfullOfMiracles · 11/05/2023 08:59

Didnt Justin Beiber do a collaboration with Crocs last year? Seem to recall he lived in a pair at one point.

As has been said above, there is no age limit on shoes and clothing. If you like it, wear it and if anyone judges you tbh it says more about them than you.

mainsfed · 11/05/2023 09:07

Crocs seem to alternate between cool and uncool, of course you can wear them.

reelcat · 11/05/2023 09:08

Crocs are the work of the devil. I can understand hospital staff wearing them but anyone else and it just blows my mind. I had to Google Tevas and they look like the sandals the older generation wore about 20 years ago.

Skybluepinky · 11/05/2023 09:10

Crocs are in with teenagers and early 20’s, they were wearing them on Love Island.
But if u like them wear them.

PaintingTheSky · 11/05/2023 09:17

I've worn Crocs for years. I have various styles and colours, including ballerina style, ballerina style slingbacks, Mary Jane style etc.
I wear them daily everywhere and I'm practically a pensioner now.
I don't care one bit what anyone thinks of my footwear. I care more about my comfort.

carolinestowcrat · 11/05/2023 09:17

Stop with this ageist nonsense. Both are fine for at age.

EnaSharplesStout · 11/05/2023 09:25

Sissynova · 11/05/2023 06:22

The only people I see wearing crocs are old people and toddlers. I would hardly call it the cool shoe of young people.

@Sissynova my 16 and 13 year old nieces wear socks and crocs alllllll the time, it’s definitely the cool thing round here!

Def popular with the cool and hip.

I am neither and have Crocs due to arthritis that manifests in my feet.

I do like the croc sandals though. Comfortable and quite pretty.

these are giving me Lizzy Mcguire and Mary Kate and Ashley Vibes

Kitkatcatflap · 11/05/2023 09:56

Crocs were really naff but they have had a bit of a resurgence, especially the new lines added. I have worn the cozzzy (fur lined) ones at work all winter. My 16 year daughter asked for a pink pair for her birthday.

HippeePrincess · 11/05/2023 11:04

Crocs are disgusting for anyone and if never heard of Tevas for god reason it seems (had to google), but if you don’t care they’re gross and you’re comfortable then wear them whatever your age!

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 11/05/2023 11:17

I honestly thought Crocs were the most butt ugly, revolting shoes anyone could wear. Then I googled Tevas. Jesus H Christ 🤢.

Ponoka7 · 11/05/2023 11:20

I think fashion marketing is more persuasive than any political campaign, including the Third Reich propaganda. They've got teens looking like pensioners. I always camped and sandals that look like Tevas would be looked at in horror by most younger people. Crocs are an abomination, but I'm a believer in wearing what you are comfortable in, so if you find them comfortable, wear them.

BungleandGeorge · 11/05/2023 11:27

Judging from my teen crocs have been cool for a couple of years. So possibly will lose the coolness again soon as too mainstream! They’re fab for around the house/ beach etc.

Ungratefulorunreasonable · 11/05/2023 11:37

I've had tevas for the last 2 years, just as they started to come 'on trend'. I love them. The fashion ones are the foam sole ones, not the moulded walking style.

BungleandGeorge · 11/05/2023 11:37

I have a feeling that the people calling them disgusting are probably wearing shoes that a large number of people would think the same of! I can remember the same being said of Birkenstocks and they’re very mainstream now.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 11/05/2023 11:45

Birkenstocks can get in the bin too - hideous things.

Yes, my mum hates my Birkenstocks - says they look like something out of ancient Egypt. I wouldn't be seen dead in her idea of a stylish shoe though! She also hates my tevas. And my Chelsea boots. And the look she has on her face when I'm in my barefoot shoes! Very opinionated is my mum 😂

Ah you missed the memo. They are cool again

These are the “in” crocs right now -

Not according to my dd. Those crocs are the opposite of cool. Big standard with socks is what the young people around here are wearing. God I sound old

Yerroblemom1923 · 11/05/2023 15:51

Socks and crocs and socks and "sliders" make me feel ill. Don't know what a Teva is. Will Google.

gogogoji · 11/05/2023 15:51

gogohmm · 11/05/2023 07:58

Great I'm cool again Grin

I love it when the footwear I already have becomes hip!

Can someone start a rumour that merrell walking shoes are the next big thing now ... Grin

Well Salomon are so maybe merril?

CharlotteStreetW1 · 11/05/2023 16:03

I wore Crocs nearly 20 years ago when I had a job where I was on my feet all day. Blissfully comfortable. Then I was given a stern talking-to about them by my osteopath as I developed a hip problem. She recommended the equally dainty (😁) Birkenstocks and I've been a pain free convert ever since.

WonderingWanda · 11/05/2023 16:06

I think they're having you on, Teva's aren't cool.
