To think I’m too old for this footwear?

I am told from reliable cool teen/young adult sources that crocs and tevas are cool and I should get some.

I don’t mean for a camping trip, I mean for actual day to day life. I am looking for comfortable with a bit of heel support, so no flip flop, slip on type summer shoes to nip to the shops in and such. I already have Birkenstocks.

Aibu to feel that crocs and tevas have an age limit when it comes to coolness? Will I just look even older than I am in my teva walking sandals and comfy crocs?

All the people who know nothing about fashion saying Crocs aren’t cool are cracking me up! No doubt they all wear skinny jeans too.

Wear them OP they are so comfy! I have loads of eva Tevas and I am
not young or that cool.

Sorryyoufeelthatway · 11/05/2023 16:22

Oh and not all teens are cool!

EatYourVegetables · 11/05/2023 16:23

I am generally of the mindset that clothes have no age limit, but Crocs are for 0-6 crowd. Sorry.

pillsthrillsandbellyache · 11/05/2023 16:23

I love Crocs AND birkenstocks 😳 I have a normal pair of each and a pair of fur lined Crocs. They will be all i wear when the weathers warmer. I also have a Primark version of each, that have lasted a long time. I am mortified after reading some of the comments here. But they are soo comfy I will not be giving them up! I've worn Crocs for 16 years. I love them.

I wear skinny jeans WITH Birkenstocks. There's no hope for me.

CheshireDing · 11/05/2023 16:25

I have Crocs for going in and out of the garden and for camping (going in the shower etc). Would never wear them anyway else though !

I have just looked up Tevas shoes and dear god they’re ugly !!!

gogogoji · 11/05/2023 15:50

Not according to my dd. Those crocs are the opposite of cool. Big standard with socks is what the young people around here are wearing. God I sound old

How funny! I guess it’s area dependent! 😆🤷‍♀️ Dd is 20 and in her second year of university and the ones I linked to are the ones they’re all after in various shades of hideousness 😳😆 - I actually like the bog standard ones but the platform ones are a bit weird for me.

ladygindiva · 11/05/2023 16:28

Crocs are definitely "in". Young adult DD who is incredibly " street" and cool, has asked for some for her birthday. I refused because they're bloody awful 🤣

Booklover40 · 11/05/2023 16:30

Young people can wear crocs and Tevas in an ironic ugly-shoe way and make them look cool.

On middle aged people they just look like….well, a middle aged person in crocs or tevas! 🤣

I am old, and can still be ironic and cool in my crocs. 😁 I just look a bit crazy. But I can live with that.

LuckyPeonies · 11/05/2023 16:39

I am too old to care if other people think I am cool. 😁 I do,own - and wear - teva sandals, but I draw the line at crocs.

Clarinet1 · 11/05/2023 16:45

Well funnily enough my first pair of Crocs arrived today. The are pink classics and I have liberally decorated them with Zibbit charms. I like them and they seem comfortable so I don’t care what anyone else thinks. For context I’m nearly 60.

MysteryBelle · 11/05/2023 16:46

Birkenstocks, crocs, and tevas are all horrific. They’re caveman shoes that make people’s feet look wide and spread out like the Flintstones. Comfortable shoes don’t have to be ugly as sin.

Booklover40 · 11/05/2023 16:54

🤣🤣🤣This is true - when I look down at my feet when I’m wearing my Birkenstock’s I think they look like hobbit feet - either that or miss trunchbull on holiday! I don’t care though, they’re comfy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/05/2023 17:50

I'd rather wear Tevas than those allegedly 'pretty' Merrell ones. At least Tevas aren't pretending to be anything other than entirely functional.

Yeah you're right, I can't abide a pretentious shoe, always going on and on about their looks...Hmm

I don't think that Merrell themselves make any claim to "prettiness", it's just the subjective view of a few Mumsnetters dear.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/05/2023 19:00

Go ahead and take me entirely literally and then patronise me, if it makes you feel good. Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/05/2023 19:00

dear...

StrangeSally · 11/05/2023 19:00

I have always worn crocs from when they first came out, they were deeply unfashionable then, they are now the footwear of the in crowd, you can get away with anything when you're young , which is why the young people can now get away with the ugly crocs

Carpediem15 · 11/05/2023 19:02

Crunchymum · 11/05/2023 06:27

Def popular with the cool and hip.

I am neither and have Crocs due to arthritis that manifests in my feet.

I do like the croc sandals though. Comfortable and quite pretty.

Do these Croscs have a name, can't find them on Croc website.

StrangeSally · 11/05/2023 19:07

I did have a pair of leopard skin print thing ones though from about 5;years ago that were Very sexy ironically,I got loads of compliments and questions of where they were from 😂 they're selling for loads now on vinted

Carpediem15 · 11/05/2023 19:08

Edit - I have found them - Brooklyn. I have worn Crocs for ever, bought a stock of Athen flip flops and wedges when they were going to discontinue them. Love these thick soled ones.

24KaratCucumber · 11/05/2023 19:13

I live a stone's throw from the local 6th form and tons of the young girls coming and going from there wear crocs and socks.
They have like badges stuck on them some how.

I don't like them. But if I was an 18 year old follower of trends, I'd probably be wearing them right now with some bright white tennis socks. 😂

The badges are probably Jibbitz 😁 you can get loads of different ones and you stick them in the holes. My sons are covered with Pokémon ones (he’s 10).

StillMedusa · 11/05/2023 19:23

I'm still wearing my original Crocs from first time around. Wearing them right now in fact Grin
I generally wear them around the house and for camping/beach times, but have been known to pop across to the shops in them.
Comfy and I am old enough not to care what anyone thinks!
