To think I’m too old for this footwear?

I am told from reliable cool teen/young adult sources that crocs and tevas are cool and I should get some.

I don’t mean for a camping trip, I mean for actual day to day life. I am looking for comfortable with a bit of heel support, so no flip flop, slip on type summer shoes to nip to the shops in and such. I already have Birkenstocks.

Aibu to feel that crocs and tevas have an age limit when it comes to coolness? Will I just look even older than I am in my teva walking sandals and comfy crocs?

The only people I see wearing crocs are old people and toddlers. I would hardly call it the cool shoe of young people.

Crocs are are very popular now. All the Love Islanders were wearing them this year.

There are plenty of pretty walking sandals available (full arch support and around the ankle). You don't have to resort to Tevas or Crocs.

I have Merrell Terran Lattice sandals. But there's loads if you have a Google for 'pretty walking sandals'

Yea, Merrells are the perfect cross between functional and pretty for me. Much nicer than Tevas.

Loads of people wear crocs of all ages - I have some rainbow ones that have been admired by many people of ages from 17 up. I'm 58. Just wear what you like and what makes you feel good and obviously comfortable 😁

Purplecatshopaholic · 11/05/2023 07:18

Wear what you like at any age! With the caveat that there is never a right age for Crocs! Hard pass there, lol.

Testina · 11/05/2023 07:18

Life is just better when you stop thinking like this.

Dotcheck · 11/05/2023 07:19

I work in a college and have a daughter who is in uni. Crocs are definitely worn by the young ‘uns

Sheepsheepeverywhere · 11/05/2023 07:20

My dd 16 is a cool dc. We both have crocs. I wear them everyday. And the terrain ones for camping. Ds calls them my 4x4's!!
When I asked her if I was too old at 50 to wear a hairband she told me I could wear whatever I wanted at any age...so I bloody do. Will be wearing jeans forever!

milkysmum · 11/05/2023 07:33

My teen daughter and most of her french wear Crocs at the moment. I'll pinch them to walk over to the shop in but not sure I'd go anywhere else in them as I'd feel silly. They are very comfy though!

TheChosenTwo · 11/05/2023 07:44

How can there be an age cut off for shoes?!
I mean; they’re both crimes against style but these crimes are being committed by both the older and younger generations 😂

NumberTheory · 11/05/2023 07:45

I have crocs and my teen DC has crocs. I am not cool. Teen DC is. (According to teen DC)

NumberTheory · 11/05/2023 07:46

*To add - Crocs are comfortable, but they provide no more support than and slip on shoe. Look at Tevas

SkankingWombat · 11/05/2023 07:56

Well, this thread explains a lot! DCs wear Crocs to swimming for ease, and I use them for camping and gardening. I have been hoping to buy 2 replacement pairs recently, but the second hand ones are just so pricey at the moment!
DD1 has outgrown hers and I've always been able to pick up the next size second hand for £5-7 second hand - there is nothing about in her size for under £15, and even at that price were very well worn!
Mine have finally died after 13yrs of use, and it's actually cheaper to buy new ones from Crocs' sale section than second hand.

I have a few of DCs' old pairs sitting in the loft I hadn't got round to selling on yet - they will now be going on Vinted later today! Maybe they will offset the inflated prices of our replacements...

Hal9001 · 11/05/2023 07:57

Crocs ate never going to be aesthetically beautiful.

They may or may not be fashionable at any given time.

They are a practical footwear choice for some people.

Fini.

gogohmm · 11/05/2023 07:58

Great I'm cool again Grin

I love it when the footwear I already have becomes hip!

Can someone start a rumour that merrell walking shoes are the next big thing now ... Grin

JackSprattAndWife · 11/05/2023 08:03

My 18y has three pairs. One for inside and two for outside (one of which has a furry inside lining) My 20y has one pair.

They each wear Birkenstocks in summer too.

I have zero pairs of both brands. Because they are so damn ugly.

I do love how fashion changes though; it’s fascinating.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 11/05/2023 08:03

Crocs may well be fashionable but I still wouldn't be seen dead in them. I had to Google tevas (that's how cool I am)! I think they look fine. Honestly though, I wouldn't give too much thought, wear what makes you comfortable.

LongTermLurker · 11/05/2023 08:05

I've recently acquired some platform yellow Crocs. I wear them with my flares, and often with socks. I think I look pretty cool 😆

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 11/05/2023 08:14

I'm officially old. I find most of the youngsters fashions horrifically ugly. I also find crocs sweaty and they give me blisters. Oh well.

Lifelessordinary1 · 11/05/2023 08:21

I always thought Crocs were for people who do not care about being seen as cool - so young children, old people and other emotionally mature adults who do what they feel is right for them and not care what others think.

UWhatNow · 11/05/2023 08:21

Once you get over the silly anti-Croc protestations you’ll wear them and never go back. They are great for everyday and bombing around the shops. They’re so part of everyday wear now that no one will bat an eyelid and you’ll be walking on air because they’re so darn comfy. Please buy real ones though, not cheap fakes.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 11/05/2023 08:24

I absolutely hate crocs. They are hideous.

Mine are blue and ideal for gardening, beach, swimming, camping etc.

Alfr · 11/05/2023 08:28

I'm 50, and I have glittery Wonderwoman crocs, which make normal crocs look positively stylish. I waited years to find a pair, and I intend to wear them until they fall apart

DorritLittle · 11/05/2023 08:30

I have some purple ones for camping and feeding the birds and had no idea I was so fashionable.

Glitterblue · 11/05/2023 08:41

Crocs and Tevas are the cool shoes of nobody. Please don’t do that to yourself 🙈

Glitterblue · 11/05/2023 08:42

Lifelessordinary1 · 11/05/2023 08:21

I always thought Crocs were for people who do not care about being seen as cool - so young children, old people and other emotionally mature adults who do what they feel is right for them and not care what others think.

Or the shoes of people who don’t care about being seen full stop 😂😂 People who don’t embarrass easily! 😂
