I am indifferent to the Monarchy but AIBU to think it all feels very weird and drab?

Claire Balding's (love CB btw) is trying very hard to say how 'joyful' it feels and is a special day but it just doesn't seem like usual royal events to me. Just feels very flat. Maybe it's the greyish weather. AIBU?

@CantBeArsedOrAsked

Seriously ??

They knew it wasn't attracting much interest so they shortened the route massively ( I think from 5 miles to just over 1?)

I imagine they still expected more people than they got
This was not well attended

Read the room 'royals'

That and arresting peaceful protesters - the UK is not a democracy that's the message internationally

@notimagain

Can you find a link please ?

I've searched on Twitter but can't find it

I know people are implying I'm lying.
I'm not !

Sorry, I’m afraid I don’t have a link…saw it on French TV (TF1).

Their commentator even slipped into English with the comment “we are not amused” for the benefit of viewers…

@Novella4 he was reading words held up to the side so it’s hard to do that and look straight ahead. Stop making up stuff without the context. I’m not even a massive royalist but you are stating things that others might believe when you’re talking without all the information.

As I said -

It was a sentence or two at the most !
Why not memorise it

It looked dreadful

That's it?! I don't think he's ranting! Maybe looks a bit tired and pissed off but hardly a furious rant.

YouveGotToGrooveIt · 06/05/2023 13:35

MaryPoppinsHat · 06/05/2023 13:28

That's not a rant! Smile

I've made more of a fuss than that when I've found someone switched the kettle off at the socket Grin

CornishGem1975 · 06/05/2023 13:36

The difference between the two coronations is that we can all sit in the comfort of our homes and watch it. Especially when it's pissing it down.

The public area numbers are restricted - once they reach a certain cap it's closed and they're directed elsewhere.

Exactly. He looked much more furious when the pen didn't work that time!
In this video he's just a bit weary.

FavouriteDogMug · 06/05/2023 13:37

Prince Louis looking bored, poor kid.

vera99 · 06/05/2023 13:38

The numbers are a real shocker - they would probably be double with sun but still. Edinburgh here you are - but you won't see this in the press or TV.

It’s fitting that it’s raining.

Novella4 · 06/05/2023 13:38

I'm not completely sure it was sure clip I saw

The clip I saw was much closer in
But anyway

It was all a bit of a shitshow from
the clips I saw
Was it really worth trashing the UK's democracatoc reputation for that

There's a video of Charles ranting in the his golden carriage outside the abbey

Do you have a link to this?

notimagain · 06/05/2023 13:40

SallyWD · 06/05/2023 13:34

I would agree maybe it was not a full blown rant but there was more to it than that clip shows..in the full sequence after the carriage rocked up somebody open the door on HRH’s side, appeared to say something which didn’t go down well….there then followed what looked like a few pointed comments, door was I think then closed and HRH appeared to have a bit of a grumble.

I can’t imagine the plan was to hold HRH in the carriage for several minutes so something must have gone awry…

TBH given circumstances I don’t blame him for having a bit of a grumble, I just hope what happened isn’t career ending for some poor sod.

lookluv · 06/05/2023 13:40

DEfintiely odd but I would rather this than face President/King Boris, Rishi, David, Keir, Jeremy, Neil, Gordon etc

I think you exaggerated what you saw and now you're backtracking!! Don't worry, I've done it many times myself for dramatic effect 😉

I can see that they pushed the boat out in 1953, because we had had a war and there was still rationing, but this has seemed half-@rsed to me somehow. I get the religious elements of it, but like a PP I think we have a problem in that between the last coronation and this we have had Monty Python. The holy hand grenade of Antioch is the least of it!

Charles looks ill, Edward looks ill, again like a PP I can see that we are going to be doing this again in a very few years.

All rather depressing.

To be fair to Camilla, people have been banging on for 25 years since Diana died about how she would never be Queen.

Poor woman is probably expecting to get egged TBH.

I would say they need to have a crisis meeting after this -if they can't guarantee crowds then's what is the point ?

ConstanceReid · 06/05/2023 13:43

I agree it was rather drab, gratingly anachronistic, and faintly comical.

The only impressive bit was Penny Mordaunt.

TeenLifeMum · 06/05/2023 13:43

Link looks like he could be running through lines/talking through the order 🤷🏻‍♀️ didn’t really look angry but that’s the thing, people all have their own agenda and will see what they want to see. Anyway, I’m off to get ready for our street party that the neighbours organised. Quite a few retired military families round here so maybe that changes the feel.

Love the picture from Edinburgh. Who would go and watch on a screen in the rain in a city the event isn’t happening in when you can watch from home?

Novella4 · 06/05/2023 13:44

@SallyWD

No that's truthfully how it looked to me . He was angry , gesticulating like when his pen didn't work

The camera angle was tighter and he was angry

Maybe it was the same clip and being further away made a difference
Maybe there is another clip
I can't be sure

MedievalMadness · 06/05/2023 13:45

I’m finding it hard to believe it was accidental that Harry’s face was obscured by the whacking great plume on Anne’s helmet? It’s like the candle Meghan was sat behind - I’m guessing to knacker up them selling the photos.

He was gesticulating
I didn't watch the service but I doubt there wa a much gesticulation was there ?

It looked lumpen

His lines were all held in front of him during the service in any case werent they ?

Even Wiliam didn't bother to memories
What are things coming to lol !

What do you mean you don't fancy sitting out in 10c rain to watch the telly? Grin
